  1. As so often happens with me, I eventually manage to sort out the problem.  Re-locked it and then rmeoved the Radio before trying again to unlock the connectors.  A but of force was needed and though it doesn't eject the connectors the larger was easy to pull out. The smaller, not so.  Don't aks me why but Had to use a lever to pry it out.  Lifting the white bar it is necessary to push down on a part beneath it which acts as a lock.   it still stck at the posiiton seen butI was able to move it. There is no locking part on the underside.

  2. So, I thought I'd get the C/C panel out of the Car today.  Flummoxed by the rear connector which is unlike any on other C/C units that I've seen on vututube.  Seems so stiff that I am worried I'll break it.  Yet, I managed to get it out a while back but today I can't fathom whats stopping it.  The White Bar seems to partly lift and am pretty sure that it should lift all the way upward which ejects the two Connectors.  Why is this not happening?  Is there something on the underside that needs to be pressed. I've tried this.  Anyone else got this type of connector? Don't see it on later cars.  Brute force may be needed?

He did make the observation that some of the wires are a bit on the thin side so might need strategically placed relays for utmost reliability. I took this comment as a good sign.

Thinwall cable which has a harder PVC grade and carries a higher load than conventional Cable has been around for some time. Certainly a catalogue I'm looking at mentiions this and is dated 2005. Used to reduce weight and has better resistance to abrasion, apparantly. .

  4. The earlier '93 certainyl didn't have such luxury and its the devils own job to get the Seat back in after removal, has been my experience on two occasions. Took hours and exhaustion. Not quite so bad the second time more than a couple of years after I'd abandoned the task. Don't normally have any passengers.  Suggest need two people with Jemmies to maybe make it easier. Good luck with your upgrade if you can find a suitable Seat.

  5. Lovely Cars, Not sure if I'd be put off if I was really keen on having one, by the below info?  You did ask,  so should know that this info is out there.

    Lexus

All Lexus models made from January 1998 are able to run off E10 petrol.

    Excluding:

    • IS250 2.5 litre V6 with engine 4GR-FSE made between August 2005 and September
    • GS300 3.0 litre V6 with engine 3GR-FSE made between January 2005 and September 2007
    • LS460 4.6 litre V8 with engine 1UR-FSE made between August 2006 and September 2007

  6. Smoke Silver and my Car's Beige colour are great for only needing to wash the Wheels regularly and Car twice yearly imo.  Just returned from driving her 1700 miles total in France over a ten day period. Very fortunate that I had the zero pressure A/C (after being left in France fourteen months) re-gassed by Kwik Fit.  May not be a recommended place to go, but it served us well for the duration and the temperature reached 32 degrees at the Guerlie Lake where Daughter decided to have a Swim.  I passed on that.

  7. Well, it hasn't gone to plan.  Removal of original strip started  badly when the second wire I attempted to remove lifted the pad off the PCB.  Another is loose but still connected to its Trace.  Decided not to attempt install the new Climate Control Strip but trimmed off the wires from the old and put back in situ.  Had the fear that any solder bridging two pads might result in a short circuit with who knows what consequences.  Don't have the necessary wire to bridge to the pad from the nearby hole. Guess Soldering is one art that I'm unable to master.  Good job I didn't attempt the ECU a couple of years back.  Why didn't I remember that!!

Still possible to put in the new Strip but will just check that everything still works on the unit and it doesn't catch fire. Left with one Black screw that I just couldn't find where it came from.  Always the way, so they say.

  8. Thanks Malc.  Some progress. Black board away from front piece. Q. is needing to heat the screen to free it up?  Had hoped it would loosen without heat. Still puzzling  but daresay I'll get there - eventually. Why didn't I provide the Beer money for the expert - Doh!   Having replaced the failed Heater on my Dishwasher yesterday I became a bit cocky this Morning thinking I can do this! Ha!

  9. So, after many years I've started on replacing the Climate Control Panel which is void of any image.  Needs to re-gas after Car left for fourteen months in France lost its A/C and need see what is on the display.

The Video on vutube isn't exactly like my '93 even though it mentions 1990 to 2000. Having taken the front away from the main box, its pretty tight with the various connecting straps.  Do they all come off? Not clear on the video as only mentions one strap and poor image. Three straps two of which are attached to the small square PCB. One of which goes to the Screen whereas the other  goes back into the box. Remove two connectors with care as don't want to damage PCB.My assumption otherwise no chance of unscrewing the eight black screws and two yellows the Vid talks about. Haven't seen the yellows, so far.

I'm at the "why did I start this job, stage".

Since reading this I was nagged by a memory blank about the Punch brand of panatellas until it suddenly came back to me that they were smoked by Honor Blackman, no less.  I don’t remember if she did so in Goldfinger (which would have been a fairly unlikely early example of product placement) or in some other movie or TV film, or if she figured in an advertising campaign for the brand.  Or maybe it was her personal choice during an interview in the days when such a thing as smoking in a TV studio was considered OK.  In any event, I guess the sight of lipstick on a cigar would have created a mild frisson of excitement among the cognoscenti.

You sure she wasn't a Sobranie Black Russian kind of Woman?

  11. Yes, I remember reading that it was a flop saleswise. As I was at an impressionable age -13 it seemed to be interesting and reminded me of my Grumpy old Uncle who used to wear a Mac and a Trilby and never smiled but complained in the presence of his Mother that he didn't want her Mutton and Soggy old Cabbage for lunch.  A bit of a scary character I used to think at the time.

  12. and then again..............there were "Tom Thumb" titchy Cigars!  The memories keep coming back. As for Fags the only Advert that always springs to my mind is "you are never alone with a Strand" Private ***** in RainMac.  No others occupy a space in my reducing mind - thank goodness!

Were they originally in a yellow tin? Or am I confusing it with another?

Re-reading this thread I seem to recall they may have been Punch Cigars. Small things. Panatella's?  Can still find Punch marketed with history on the web.
