  1. How spooky - just over a year later, and I've got ice on the inside of my windscreen again, and in the past few days I've had condensation - almost an exact repeat of last year. This, plus the annoying rattle from the B Pillar and and crackling front speaker; two things that the dealer can't seem to fix (despite having the car multiple times), and now this ice on the inside of a car ... does not a good experience make. My employer has removed a bunch of car manufacturers from the list of available ones. Right now. I'm not going to be sorry that my next car can't be a Lexus.
  2. .. and the verdict is .. Needs a new seat belt adjuster and a new front drivers speaker unit.
  3. Speaking to my local dealer today they were surprised that I couldn't get anything more than 30-32 mpg, and suggested 40mpg should be the norm. My daily commute is about 900 yards so I know I'm not giving the car a fair chance.
  4. Number plate vibrates. Worked out its the metal numberplates that my company car lease company provides. Lexus plates are plastic. There was a suggestion that they would replace the numberplates, but it seems now they wont and neither will the company car company. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/topic/95869-oh-dear-9-days-old-and-already-in-for-repair/ Creeking from the B pillar. Related to the movement of the car as I drive. Does not occur all the time. Dealer could'nt reproduce originally, but after I drove the car, they heard it themselves. They're going to strip the car down to try and find the fault. Front driver speaker crackling - even with radio off. A bit more random this one. So far I've not reproduced it nor have the dealer experienced it. Car is back with them today for #2 (and hopefully #3 but I'm not optimistic)
  5. So I've had the NX into the dealer for a service and to fix 3 issues. Shortly after being collected, I had an email from the dealer .. "Visual Inspection video". Initially concerned that there was something majorly wrong with the car, I was pleasantly surprised it was just a video showing tyre tread and that the suspension was visually OK. Kinda neat - not sure if all Lexus dealers do this ? (ps, no they didnt fix the 3 problems I told them about - typical uh ?)
  6. I've had it activate a few times when I'm "driving like I stole it". One scenario, on a dual carriageway, car in front was turning left. I was approaching, shall we say "quite rapidly", and was about to over take into the right hand lane. But the NX deemed it too close for comfort, slowed the car down quite abruptly, BEEP BEEP BEEP from the dash, and BRAKE!!! written on the dash. At no point do I think I was even going to come close to rear ending the car in front.
  7. Andy, I replied to this thinking it was the speed camera alert, but having picked mine up today it doesn't beep where my IS300h did. Are you still getting the beep beep? It wasn't something else? I'm surprised if Lexus have taken the feature away as it was an omission on the 2nd Gen IS that most owners seemed pleased to have on the 3rd Gen. If it is the speed camera alert the only other thing I can think of is whether the map region is incorrectly set somehow. I know, for example, if you travel to France the beep beeps stop as it's illegal over there. Yup - still got the beep beep - but then my NX has not been in for a service yet - its due in next Wednesday; sadly to fix a few faults (crackling front driver speaker even with volume at 0, and creeking on the drivers door when driving down a road). I'll keep an eye out (ear out?) for the beeps incase its a software "upgrade" thats changed.
  8. Hi all, Lexus NX - Premium Nav .. Is it possible to enable / disable the sat nav audio instructions without having to go through the rigmarole of changing the sat nav voice in the setup ? Most every other car I've ever had, has always had the ability to just "mute" the instructions. I've tried just about everything I can think off - and unless I missed it in the instructions - I can't find a way. Rgds Andy
  9. Here goes - trying to describe something that I'm not even sure what its called. I've got the Premium Nav on a Lexus NX. Every 30 seconds (maybe 60 seconds), on the main display, I get a bar across the top of the screen, telling me what radio station I'm listening too. Its annoying - and distracting - as I can see this "movement" in the corner of my eye as it "drops down" and then "scrolls up". Can this be turned off ?
  10. Another vote the premium stuff .. I was struggling to get 30mpg (28 was my norm) ... filled up with Shell VPower - and got an immediate 5-8mpg more .. thats about 20-30% improvement ! Another fill up - this time with BP Ultimate - similar results. Father-in-law says there's something in this .. and that hes read in some car mechanic mags that Japanese cars seem to be better on the premium fuel. The fuel costs me about 10% more than unleaded (109p against 120p) - so it seems the logical choice.
  11. Bingo.. That was exactly the problem. Now working, although not very fast it seems.. bmw system with a built in phone system seems much quicker getting traffic info. In case anyone else hits this.. On my Z3 which is probably not too dissimilar to other 'droid devices I had to enable Bluetooth tethering.
  12. Hi guys I've got the Premium Sat Nav in my NX. I've got my mobile (Sony Z3) paired up nicely - calls, texts etc all work as expected. I've put my account details in to the connected services bit - and it says successful - however I get a constant message on the screen every couple of minutes saying "Automatic Download could not be completed" (or words to that effect). What is it trying to download ? What am I missing out on ? Could it be the traffic updates ? I don't seem to have any alerts of congestion / advice to re-route. Cheers Andy
  13. Interesting Hunslet ... Maybe I'll try the VPower stuff on the next fillup
  14. A bit of an update ... My NX has now done about 3k miles - so one assumes "bedded in". A 150 mile trip on the A34 / M4, resulted in an MPG of 29.5. Don't buy a Lexus NX Hybrid if your expecting good fuel economy lol
  15. Just to update .. so far .. no more condensation (or ice - but its significantly warmer than it was last week) - but I have turned back on the S-Flow. In respect of S-Flow not impacting the demisting of the windscreen. With the windscreen vents on, and with s-flow turned on, the amount of air that I can "hear" coming from the windscreen vents is reduced, compared to when I turn s-flow off. I also noticed that the windscreen stayed misty for longer with S-Flow on - than off. I take on board what you say about it being nonsensical that it can affect the front windscreen - after all, all the S-Flow does, as you say, is affect the rear seats airflow - end of. So in theory - it shouldn't make any difference.
  16. Hmm .. I don't know. I have been fiddling with all the air con system - so its possible I've turned something off. I know I turned S-Flow off, as I found it didnt de-mist the windscreen very well with it turned on. Time for a fiddle I think - just in case I've been a muppet.
  17. Anyone having problems with condensation / ice on the inside of their windscreen of the NX ? A few weeks ago I'd noticed the windscreen was full of condensation after a day of being left in the work car park - something I've never had in 20 years of car ownership. And today, the windscreen had ice on the inside of the windscreen that took the car a good 15 minutes to clear. (admittedly, the temp outside was reported by the NX as being -3 .. but still). I'm lead to believe that the two are connected; most likely caused by moisture in the car. Question is .. how is that moisture getting in ? Someone said wet carpets, faulty door seals .... Any suggestions ?
  18. As the title really .. is this safe ? A friend in work suggested that theres a different procedure for jumping when the donor car is has Start/Stop, but what about Hybrid ? My father-in-law's car had a flat batter over Xmas, so I volunteered to jump start him ......... popped the bonnet (for the first time since having the car) and quickly closed it again ...... even my father-in-law who's a bit of a DIY mechanic would'nt even have a go "just in case". So .. can you jump start someones car with the hybrid NX ? If so - how ? Any special "rules" one has to follow ?
  19. My work commute is 1 mile (each way). Half of that is in a residential 30mph zone, the other half on 60mph roads. I try and get the EV mode on for the residential bits, but find that I disable the EV mode by pressing the accelerator pedal 1mm too far (should it really be that hard to keep in EV mode ???). I've worked it out that at 31mpg, the NX is costing just under 15p to do 1 mile (at £1p per liter). So that makes my daily commute, a total cost of about 29p a day, £1.46 a week, £5.86 a month or £70.30 a year. Even if I could get 55mpg, that changes to 17p a day, 83p a week, £3.30 a month or £39.62 a year. I don't think fuel economy is a concern for me lol My biggest driver for getting the NX was getting my company car tax bill down. My previous car (BMW 330d) was reducing my tax allowance by 10k ! I'm hoping the NX will be a little less than that
  20. I'm stuck around the 31.5 mpg - and going down - not up. Done around 1800 miles.
  21. Oh the irony... Double sided tape to fix a£40k motor. The Germans are rolling around laughing already.
  22. Id be interested if anyone else has this problem. Easiest way to reproduce is to pop the bass on full and turn the volume up a little. Song choice will help too... Seven Nation Army might call the number plate to fall off!! Lol
  23. So playing around today confirms it's the number plate resonating when the radio outputs at certain frequencies. Plate screws are nice and night (maybe that's the problem... Too tight??) Not sure what Lexus can do... But we'll find out Wednesday.
  24. WOW that is some nasty stuff. They'll definitely sort it out or atleast find out the cause - its to be expected being the first year of the NX. After who knows how many billions in investment, and the legendary Lexus build quality; I would refute that statement. I would not expect any problems in the first year of the NX. That said, I accept problems do occur. I have a moto; its not about the problem; its about how you *deal* with the problem. There could be something in that. The plate was plated with plates provided by my company car leasing company. I just "flicked" the plate this morning - it sounds awfully familiar. Strangely, despite the noise happening with Maroon 5's "Moves like Jagger", the noise did not occur this morning when Sammy Davies Jr was singing "Talk to the Animals".
  25. Driving home today... Horrific noise from the rear of the car... Had no idea what it was.. but sods law every time I turned the radio down to listen more closely.. The noise stopped. Got home and got out of the car for a better listen... Something has gone wrong in the boot.. Vibration from the radio is causing an God awful noise (and its not my choice of music) Managed to get a recording on my phone in case it suddenly stops. Car booked in next Wed for them to look at it.. I think the bass unit is in the tail door?? Sounds like certain frequencies are the problem. http://youtu.be/U-F9I5_8Z_o
