  1. Thanks. I had the front cam hard wired to hide the cable and they have done a neat job of it. The rear I wanted to mount on top of the brake light and find a power source in the boot. Perhaps from a light or the power feed to the amp.
  2. Just had a front facing dashcam fitted today by Halfords. Easy to do with plenty of power sources and neatly fitted. I'm looking to get a rear facing dashcam wired in and am looking for somewhere to take the power supply from without causing any interference. We had a look and as there are no obvious power outlets, was wondering if it could be taken from the amp supply or from one of the speakers in the parcel shelf? has anyone fitted one in the rear with any success?
  3. Well, my car is also windsor blue according to the stamped handbook. It certainly isn't black. I had the front and back bumpers, bonnet and both front wings painted, with a full mop, polish and other stone chips touched in for 700.00, very happy with the job they've done.
  4. Just had the front and rear bumpers, bonnet and wing of my repainted very nicely by a local body shop. I was in the process of ordering some stonechip touchup paint before I dropped it in to them and we noticed the paint code on the door post. My sticker by the left hand door gives a paint code of 8U0, which according to the online references I have found comes out as black! http://www.toyotareference.com/lexusis/2006-2015 Now we know the car is blue, but I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this?
  5. Even better for me, the guy in Kwikfit who did it has a 220d, so knew exactly what he was doing.
  6. Took the car in for a tracking check and both front wheels were pointing outwards. No wonder the car felt like it was heading off on its own! Don't know how the previous owner thought this was OK! Anyway, all tracked out correctly and feeling much better about the handling. 40 quid well spent.
  7. Appreciate your comments about tyres, I am considerign getting a matched pair for the front at least, given how cheap they are compared to what i ran on my Golf and Passat. However I need the tracking check first and have it booked in next week in a few days to find out. Then I can start looking at tyre types.
  8. I have a bit of wander on the front of the car. I'm wondering how much is down to any possible tracking errors, mismatched tyres or just the general difference of driving a rear wheel car when I've been used to front wheel drive for 20 years. I noticed on a run up the motorway and A roads that the steering lacks the general 'self-centering' feel I'm used to. I had that happen on the family VW Passat when the front bushes wore out and were replaced, a cheap job which made it feel like new. Does the Lexus also suffer from this? I'm also aware that I have odd tyres on the car. The back end has two Evergreen EU72's on and the front has one Evergreen plus a Bridgestone. Both have a similar tyre tread. All have a good amount of tread, so I'm not going to change them for a while, but I'm not impressed with the amount of noise they generate or the road-holding. Already unstuck the back end exiting (gently) a roundabout at a reasonable speed, that I use every day and my old front wheel drive car could handle easily. Are these cars prone to tramlining? The front, on the motorway, did just seem to go where it was left and wander with no self- centering feel at all. So tracking, tyres rearwheel drive or all three?
  9. Just having a good look over the car I have bought recently and removed the covers in the engine bay. As well as a lot of sand as the previous owner took it on to building sites, there's some corrosion on top of the suspension mounts. As the car is 10 years old I'm not too worried but is this a common thing? I'm going to cleaning up properly and treat with some anti rust paint shortly. Also the front of some of the pulley cogs are a bit corroded. Doubt it's something I can fix easily but probably won't matter. I guess it's just salt corrosion over time?
  10. Thanks, I'm going to get some Magnatec and do an oil change in a couple of days. I just need to put a bit in now to top it up so I'll use the C3.
  11. I understand what people are saying regarding oil, but perhaps someone could offer me some advice. i need to top up the oil for my newly purchased (10 year old) 250. I've only had it a few weeks but the oil level is sitting on the lower mark on th dipstick and needs at least half a litre. It was serviced 6 months ago, the old invoices from the independant just state 5W30 oil. i have a load of oil in my garage for my VW and other cars. One is Castrol Edge 5W30 (C3 I think) and one is Castrol Magnatec 5W30 A1 (labelled Ford approved). As I don't know the full spec of what's in my engine and won't until I get an oil change and service in October, could I use one of these? what would members suggest I top up with, either of these or go and get a few litres of Magnatec A5?
  12. Thanks. theres no issues with battery or key recoding then if I swap it?
  13. I've just bought a 10 year old Is250 and one of the few things that needs doing is the start button face is very worn away. Is it possible to take the cover off the starter and simply replace it or is it a new unit? thanks.
  14. Nice, just the colour! Mine's got a lot of minor bodywork scratches but I think I'll get a good mop done by a valeter and see what's left to fix. Like the wheels, just the standard ones on mine, but recently refurbed. Inside is almost spotless, its just the outside that needs a tidy.
  15. Well picked mine up today, a bit early and got a nice run home. Car is big and solid, in comparison to the Passat I've had for the last few years. The boot does seem damp though. When I inspected it, I thought it was the owner being over keen with cleaning agents, but it is a little damp. Not surprising for a 10 year old car, but I'll have to find out why. Photos tomorrow!
  16. Week on Thursday, can't wait. Much smoother than my old Golf GTi.
  17. Hi I've just bought a 2006 IS 250 SEL with the full audio and Satnav package. It has the aux in and MP3/wma compatibility. I know I can connect a basic MP3 player but is there more sophisticated way of using a flash or USB device for those of us that don't have iPhones or iPods? many thanks!
  18. Hi, I've just bought a Lexus IS250 SEL 2006 in blue with the cream/beige interior. Pick it up next week and looking forward to getting to know it. I think I've got a good one, as although it's 10 years old, it's what I wanted, one owner and FSH. New exhaust, refurbed wheels and overall excellent. Fully loaded with the Satnav and Mark Levinson audio, it even has the rear sun blind! Looking forward to giving it a polish before driving up to Scotland from Cheshire for a few weeks work. Should throw up any niggles! Pic to come of course.
  19. Hi, just joined as I'm looking into buying an RX 400h. Congratulations on the forum, I've already picked out a lot of useful info. What I would really like to check though is this...with my budget of 8-10K, I am looking at a 2007-9 SE-L or SE with Nav and a FSH, with anything between 60-100k in mileage. Given that some of these are high mileage and 8 years old, what is the expected lifespan of the electric motors and batteries? Would it be better to go for newer and high mileage or older and low mileage? Obviously I'd prefer newer and low mileage but that all depends on finding a good one. I'm off to have a look at a couple local to me near Manchester, so there seem to be a few around to look at. What would members think I should also look at on the test drive? Other bits that might be specific to hybrid?
