  1. 2 weeks ago I had a new Battery fitted. Now,  my "Since refuelling" MPG for the 2 full tanks I've used since is 30.9 mpg, and has gone into the low 31's for a few days. I was getting a steady high 28 - low 29 mpg for each tank full in the previous months. I suspect removing the Battery has reset the ecu and gearbox control unit, meaning the car has learned how I drive and adapted better from scratch (I bought the car with 18 k miles on it).

Does this sound right? I seem to remember the auto box adapts to driving style (or at least it did i the IS250)

I'm looking for some advice for my 2007 GS450H.

I've noticed some behaviour with my locking that may be just how it is supposed to work or I'm beginning to think it may be a fault...

About a month ago I locked my keys in the car accidentally and it needed the AA to get them out.  I unlocked the door, put the keys on the passenger seat and rummaged around in a bag on the outside.  I didn't notice the car self-lock whilst the door was open, the alarm went off so I closed the door thinking it would cancel the alarm and not realising it had auto-locked I locked my keys in!  I had assumed that by sheer chance that the keys must have landed on the seat in such a way that it pushed the lock button and thought nothing of it.

Another strange event, I unlocked the doors, got in, put keys in centre console and closed the door.  I didn't start the engine immediately, I was reading something.  Car locked itself and alarm went off!  I used the fob to cancel the alarm and thought it was strange the alarm should go with keys in car again.

Yesterday, I opened the car from the passenger side, put the keys in the centre console and shut the door to do something else (boot was open).  Car locked itself.  All doors were locked, I couldn't get in.  I was just about to call the AA when I tried the drivers door and it unlocked as it would with key-less entry but the keys were in the car...

I'm beginning to think I've got a fault.  I can't imagine the keys should work like this!?  I've not had a low battery warning and new battery was put in key last year.

    Any ideas!?  Is this normal!?

Im not sure. If you unlock the car and do absolutly nothing they self lock again after a short period. But your opening the door. maybe the self locking is normal if you dont switch on the ignition.

Other than that, id stop shutting my keys in the car after the first incident...

I had it on my old IS but disabled it as prefer to keep it unlocked when driving. Not many carjackings down my neck of the woods!

Mine doesn't seem to have double locking. Is that on the newer models?

Mine does I think its standard. I press the sensor on the door handle twice and there are 2 differnt locking noises. Having a quick glance at the manual I cant see it described, but the GS definatly double locks. On mine just pres the lock button on the key or door handle twice,,

I really like the exclusivity, as you say you very rarely see another one.    I read that in 2016 approx  23000 E Class, 21000 5 Series, 16000 A6 and 250 GS were sold!!

Only annoyance so far is the lack of auto-locking when you drive off,  I liked that feature in the IS.

A big part of these numbers is the fact that Lexus don't sell to fleets. Hire companies snap up many bog spec small diesel versions of those cars.Keeps the GS a more select choice for the more discerning motorist.

A Lexus has more quality touches. For example, all the leather in your car is leather. In a Merc its all fake and in an Audi only the bits of the seat are real, the rest is fake

I don't seem to be able to find this in my settings. Maybe it's a feature of the newer models?

I think it is, mine is a 13 plate Luxury and I dont have this either.

To the OP, welcome to the forum and GS. I moved across from the previous model IS. The GS has all the same qualities but turned up to 11. The longer wheel base and wider track just make it such a wonderfully comfortable, refined and settled car to drive.

Interesting thoughts. I haven't driven an NX but I have sat in one, and it definitely seemed to be constructed to the cheap-feeling CT/IS/RC standards rather than the better-quality LS/GS/RX. I find this quality divide frustrating, as I really like both the IS and RC otherwise but if I'm paying a grossly inflated premium for a Lexus over a Toyota, I want that to hit me in the face every time I get in the car with the quality of materials used, and the 'lesser' models just don't do that at all.

As such, for me the NX is hideously overpriced. However, it is all about demand, and right now the car-buying populace are demanding vehicles that visibly broadcast something referred to as a 'lifestyle' which often appears to involve surfboards, children and dogs. I can't say I understand this desire to compromise on dynamics and efficiency for the sake of an elevated ride height and a futile attempt to persuade others that you're living life to the full or whatever, but my opinion doesn't matter.

As Rayaan has already pointed out, traditional saloons are on the way out. They can't compete - I mean the GS is hardly going to be considered a 'lifestyle' car, unless one counts bimbling sedately across the village to play bowls to be a lifestyle. Certainly not in rich-pensioner-spec Premier trim anyway - perhaps less so for the F-Sport, which might manage to project a bit of middle-management thrust, although corporate conformity is hardly fashionable in this brave new open-neck-shirt world we live in. Either way, the NX has the GS licked on those all-important matters of image and 'practicality'. It's also clear just how far removed I have become from the consensus when the ability to transport white goods is quoted as a positive attribute. Seriously, does anyone actually choose a car because they think they might need to transport an effing fridge? Don't answer that, it's too depressing.

All that said, even if I understood the whole lifestyle thing I still don't think I could justify paying £45k for an ungainly-looking, odd-faced small SUV with a cheap interior. Not when I could have a Toyota C-HR for something like £18k less with much lower running costs. Okay, then I'd have a really ungainly-looking, very odd-faced small SUV with a tacky cheap interior but, perhaps weirdly, I actually find the C-HR to be a much more striking design than the NX. And £18k buys you a whole lot of real lifestyle, too...

Hit nail on the head. I also don't buy into the SUV thing. I've been driving 30 years and never needed to sit higher in order to be aware whats going around me. As for your C-HR comparison, it struck me that the remainder of the 45k budget could go on a gt86 for those non fridge transportation journeys.

I think that one is a luxury not a premier, hence the smaler screen, but it does mention four driving modes! A good reason not to trust Lexus adverts! The GS is definitely a relaxed cruiser but also good on windy roads in sport+ mode. My IS before this also had cream leather and after seven years I had no problems keeping it clean. Hope I'm not tempting fate here! 😉

4 driving modes could be eco, normal, sport and snow...

It is a luxury.Luxury comes with the big screen if it has the Mark Levinson. Or at least mine did!

The 200t isn't being dropped elsewhere - only in the UK I think.

Its already been dropped on Lexus UK website for the IS and NX but awkwardly, the RC200T still soldiers on - perhaps its selling better, who knows?

The GS200t doesn't really make much sense in America and it wouldn't in the UK either due to the 350 being only a little more in the US and the 300h being the leader of sales for the GS in the UK.

The 200t seems to do OK in Australia and Asia but they are extremely small markets.

A pity - better on tax and MPG than my 250, bit more oomph as well, it would  on paper be my preference over a 300h (I'm not knocking the 300h I've never driven one).

  10. low MPG in the US doesn't matter the same as it does here. -don't forget US fuel prices. Last week I filled a mini van 80 litre tank from virtually empty to full for $38 (about £30!!) My GS250 65 litre tank from almost empty to full takes £68 ish to fill. Fuel is less than half the price it is here - currently works out at around 45p a litre. So buying a GS 350 over a 200t is a no brainer. Every GS, ES and RX I saw was a 350.

    Hi all

I absolutely love my 450h however it's almost 11 years old now and the time for upgrade has come.. The 450h is my 7th Lexus and i would rate it second best after MK4 LS400 :)

The problem is where to look next. I've been spoiled by the Lexus reliability, instant and effortless power provided by the electric motors. Ideally another Lexus hybrid :) Then again my budget will be limited to something like 3-4 year old GS300h. Can anyone share some light what's it like to drive compared to mk3 450h? Make no mistake i'm no boy racer, but 8.9 seconds 0-60 sounds very slow and i simply refuse to believe these figures (Parkers).

There is a video on you tube of a GS300h fsport doing a 0-62 sprint, it clocks it in 8.3 seconds
