  1. Right, so i am completely re-doing a 1uzfe engine from a 97 ls400. i purchased a gasket set from ebay U.S....and it came with of a load of O-rings.. i removed and re-sealed the oil pump/front cover. between the cover and block there is an O-ring that seals the main oil gallery that runs down center of the block. I took what seemed to be the correct size 0-ring from the set and fitted it on the block...as the block is grooved for the ring, not the cover.... the o-ring fit perfectly on the outside edge of the groove, but a small gap on the inside...i figured once compressed it would fill the slight gap....but now i am second guessing myself..and its worrying me. i shoud have just bought the original one from lexus...as i dont want to have to take it all apart again! does anyone have a picture of the o-ring installed on the block?
  2. have a 1997 ls400 engine i am working on.. i have the engine stripped to the bare block, and will be re-sealing everything....timing cover, sump pan etc... i contacted permatex, told them the toyota/lexus seal packing number listed in my Factory Repair book (08826-00080) and they told me the Ultra Grey RTV was the correct RTV...in fact the original seal packing i scraped off was grey in color. so i bought the ultra grey, but looking at the instructions it say to apply it, and tighten bolts finger tight...allow to dry for one hour, then torque to specifications... There is no mention of this in factory repair book....it just says to apply it then torque to specs....in fact it says if you wait longer than 5 mins, remove it, and re-apply. i just contacted permatex about this...but wanted to get some thoughts here. thanks
  3. this looks good...everything needed http://www.ebay.com/itm/90-97-Lexus-LS400-SC400-4-0L-DOHC-1UZFE-Graphite-Cylinder-Head-Gasket-Set-/220737819466?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3364ffd34a&vxp=mtr but why does it always have to come from the states!? could hardly find anything in the UK
  4. i tried two different emails and sent a message to the admin, but nothing... i never get a confirmation email when i register... strange? i'd really like to join that site...
  5. doing a refresh on the 1uz....stripping down to the bare block and replacing all gaskets and cleaning everything... doing some modifications, not a lot.,...just complete new exhaust and inlet/intake setup. I was thinking about using head studs instead bolts...like ARP...overkill, but why not whilst im in there... what are good brands and good places to get them from? i rekon dealer will be way to expensive. and advice at all will be appreciated.
  6. i dont think i will ever find 1997 manuals! theres a set for 1994 year model ls400 should i just pull the trigger and get them? is it close enough?
  7. on an interference engine, if the timing belt snaps....valve will hit the piston. non-interference engine, if the timing belts snaps, valve will not hit piston..
  8. Need repair manual for a 97 ls400. would consider 1 or 2 year older...95-96....but would prefer 97. looking for the hard copy/book, not CD.
  9. So a 1994 service manual would work for what I need....engine torque specs. Btw from what I have read 90-94 have non interference...not saying you are wrong.
  10. got a 1997 ls400...looking at buying a factory repair manual off ebay....couple things though... its from the states. are the ls400's pretty much the same in states as the uk? also, its for 1994 year model....while mine is a 97 my main concern is engine...torque specifications and such. did the 1uzfe engine , mechanically speaking remain the same from 90-97? would the torque specifications....cam gears, head bolts, crank bolt, rocker bolts etc be the same for all the years? thanks
