  1. I have found out the issue, the clips that the knobs join to which allow movement vertically look like they have been removed, maybe to clean and then put back badly so they have broken. I am making a list, it only seems small but the dealer is 200 miles away in Manchester and im pretty certain i'm on my own.. I have to go to my local Lexus dealer later in the week so i'll ask them the bad news.
  2. Me again guys. A quick question, is there a way to adjust the catch on the glove box, mine rattles very slightly and doesn't close very tightly so need to adjust if possible. Thanks Wayne
  3. Hi guys, Bought a 450h recently 2008 facelift so you might see a question or 2 from me in the coming days and weeks to which I firstly apologise :) But I have noticed since getting it which I didn't before that the air vents don't look right I think they have been broken as the front grills move up and down with the button thing in the middle but the rear ones don't, the ones that normally move the left and right air direction. I'm taking it that's not normal? I think there are also pieces behind that I will have to try and fish out. I have no idea how this happened but can anyone tell me if theres a way to get them out and to put them back together? Thanks Wayne
  4. Hi guys, Said goodbye to the 220d Saturday and bought a 450h today! no photos yet as just driven 200 miles from Manchester and she's filthy. But most impressed, a couple of small things to sort but Im hoping lots of happy motoring ahead, and maybe a few questions. Its a 2008 facelift with 35,000 on the clock. On my 200 miles journey of 75-80 most of the way averaged 36 to the gallon so very happy. Smooth. quiet power. Thanks for all the help.
  5. Firstly apologies for spelling the title wrong.. fingers wont work today :) Secondly.. Just an opinion poll I guess Young mans car? Middle Aged mans car? Old mans car? Love the car, just not sure im ready for one yet :) So trying to find out...
  6. Just received this from the guy, and don't know if it sounds real or not.. can anyone comment? "Yes full Lexus Service Here is my address KW14 7PD Thurso you can come and collect yourself but also I have requested personal support and I was approved to use Buyer Protection Program so I decided to sell it just by ebay. Here is how the process works: - I will list the car on Ebay motors for £8,199 buy it now price and I will send you a link to my auction so you can buy it immediate - you have to pay for the item to ebay to secure the funds - they confirm to me that they received the funds - I deliver the car - you receive the car - they send me the money In case you are not familiar with them please read their buyer protection and you will see they cover 100% the transaction done through them up to £50,000. You will receive the car with all the documents. As you know ebay is the best company online for transactions. If indeed interested in it and have the funds, I will list it in ebay as I have 100% positive feedback with them Please let me know your decision" WTF? never heard of it before and still wouldn't buy a car without even seeing it or driving it. Any thoughts appreciated although I've already made up my mind I don't care how cheap it is, its a no from me.
  7. As an update, I think this might be a "too good to be true" scenario. Car advertised @ £8,199 which to me was too cheap, tried to contact the guy on a phone numbered in Leicester somewhere but just rung out and no one answered. Got a text from autotrader somehow offering me an email address so sent the guy a mail. He comes back says it has a service history and all the documents but doesn't say which type or if the history is Lexus, then he says for a quick sale he'll take £8,199 and deliver the car to me at his costs. He is currently in Scotland on business too which makes it sound even worse! Sent back a thanks but no thanks so I think its off to Manchester at the weekend to look at and compare a IS 250 and a GS 450h and hopefully come back with one or the other...
  8. Thanks for your insight, I need to get hold of the bloke first and see what the service history is as he hasnt mentioned any, coupled with the fact that the DVLA say it hasn't been taxed since December which might make a test drive difficult as I'm pretty sure a test drive is mandatory.
  9. Hi guys, changing from a 220d to a 450h hopefully. Just wondered before I go and look I have read here and know about calipers and the like but apart from a service history is there anything that I shouldn't forget to check or look at? I realise electrics seem pretty robust, are the 450's susceptible to rattles the I was told the 220 was? I've seen one that looks to cheap to be true so a little cautious. I usually like low mileage cars, I have seen 2, one is a 08 with 34,000 and the other is a 08 with 55,000 but theres nearly 3 grand difference in the price, the rest seems ok. Should I really be worried about an extra 20,000 miles on these sort of cars if I can save myself £3,000 Any pointers or help appreciated. Thanks
  10. Thanks for your reply mouser. Low mileage to me means 5-7,000 a year. My current 220d is 27000 on an 09.
  11. Thanks guys, my budget is a little tight as I only bought the 220D about 4-5 months ago and blew my savings on that. Looking for a good car, like low mileage and would like an SE-L if I can, want light leather and that's about all really.. its a matter of what I can get in my budget. I will let you know when I get one :)
  12. Hi Guys, Looking at swapping my 220D for a 250 and was just wondering a couple of things if anyone could clarify for me. I've read they have a brake binding/seizing issue but on a test how can you tell if its suffering from it? is it as pronounced as pulling to one side under braking? or do you smell it? just wanted to know as it seems like a common issue with not too cheap a fix. Also I've been looking for a low mileage example and was looking to try and get a 09 area facelift version but apart from the mirror indicators and the back lights what else changed? All the stats look the same. I was wondering if its worth holding out for a newer facelift one or if an older 57/58 will be just as good. Can anyone tell me what else there is between the 2 models please? Thanks as always.
  13. You can be as bold as you like and I have thought about it, I however an very into fitness, just not cycling and cant think of anything worse than getting changed at 6am in the morning to cycle in through the winter and then shower as over 3 miles I would have to push and then get changed etc. But thanks for the thought/suggestion.. I like the warm leather of the heated seat and the purr of a V6 thanks.. take that instead :)
  14. Hi, I've been looking around and haven't found much too close to me, but can anyone tell me whats the 250 SR? where does it fit in the range, nothing says it has extra power, so it is just suspension setup and the spoilers and skirts? they look identical on the inside too maybe except the metal pedals. Thanks
  15. I am currently looking at one, not sure if this allowed but its here http://www.johnsonsofleigh.co.uk and its a pearl white one, looks nice. Would appreciate any comments.
  16. Guys, Hello, recently purchased a beautiful IS 220 D, one owner 24,000 miles (now 26) only to find out last week that my daily commute to work is going down from 10 miles each way to 3.. That doesn't sound any good to me for a modern diesel so im in a dilemma. Do I keep the 220D as its such a beauty and find another way to work? or do I play safe and go for the 250 petrol. I do love the car over the past few months Ive come to love it but I just cant make my mind up. I know 250 is less fuel consumption but if im doing that few miles should I worry? Also because I have used all my savings to buy this I cant spend much more so my 2009 would have to go down to a 57-08 plate. I have noticed the emissions dropped a bit at this point and tax is only £285 rather than £485 im taking it that there was a significant engine change at that point? Any help would be appreciated to help me decide.. either that or I have to but a small town car.. heaven forbid! wanted a 450h but that's out of my range at the moment. Thanks
  17. Ok, I don't think I'm stupid but can anyone help me here, went to try this today and I couldn't even see how the wiper blade comes off the arm, let alone try to replace the rubber. Also I could see the metal but which I'm assuming I have to re-use from the rubber. Does anyone know if there's a video anywhere or something that might help? If not i'll have to go to Lexus and ask them. Thanks
  18. Hi guys, Just bought a new pair of rubbers for my IS 220 D 2009 from Lexus Of Norwich with my club discount and paid £13 all in, bargain! Was just wondering though if anyone could tell me, are there any knacks, tricks or tips to replacing these? Or is it as simple as the wrestle the old ones off and reverse for the new ones? Any help or guidance appreciated. Thanks
  19. No, because the tread is low, they apparently "slip" or "judder" on some surfaces which inside the car sounds like knocking and grinding.. so a new set of front boots and hopefully all will be well.
  20. Was tyres, glad it was confirmed.. But they checked it for free and cleaned it too! :)
  21. oops, I've booked it in 2nd Jan to see if Lexus can find anything.... I might look like an idiot here...
  22. Guys, Havent had my 2009 IS 220D long but noticed that on full lock both ways I now have a clicking/grinding noise when going forwards or backwards at slow speeds. I have a warranty so going to go on that route to get it done, I was thinking CV joint, but not sure why that would do it both ways. Could that mean its steering? I have noticed recently too that sometimes when I go on one lock and then quickly change to the other it doesnt seem to react very quickly, for example when manouvering or paring. There also seems to be a dead spot where it sort of stops reacting so wondered if that could be to do with it too or if thats just how the steering is. Can anyone comment please? Thanks
  23. Hi guys, Just joined the forums and though I'd say hello. I have just bought a 2009 IS 220D in a pastel blue with lovely cream leather it has just 24,000 miles on it and was a one owner car when I bough it. So far all is good. As per the posts in here, economy isn't as good as the Renault Laguna diesel I came from but I just love the refinement, the quiet and the lack of rattles and bangs that the Renault had. It isn't an easy car to drive based upon all the other cars I've ever owned but I've got used to it and the driving style needed to get it down the road silky smooth. Want ultimately to get a 450h but out of my price range at the moment. Can anyone tell me exactly how small the boot is on one of those? how much smaller than the 220D is it? Hope to see you all around the forums, Cheers
