New Kuga seems impressive in theory, but I don't like the looks tbh.

My next car will likely be a plug in hybrid. With a 15 mile commute, but longer journeys maybe once a month it makes sense for me. Probably...

    CarWow new Kuga

For my type of journeys the plug in hybrids would not be practical, therefore at present a Norma hybrid will suffice. The review on the Rav-4 is very positive and no extra road tax hike to be paid!

Following yet another Keyless Car Fob theft in my street this week, I tried the Fob Disabling Method given by another reader to this site. (You can just switch off your key fob. If you press and hold the lock button and in the same time press quickly  twice the unlock button the key fob stops the transmitting. So no one is able to catch the signal. Of course, it is not very convenient to do it every time but you can decide whether to do it or not. There is one more benefit - in this way you will safe your Battery life for long time), for the first time. The little lights on the key fob flashed to acknowledge buttons have been depressed. AND IT WORKS TOTALLY, PERFECTLY, SIMPLY (and hopefully) EVERY TIME. I stood next to the car, waived the fob in every direction - even tried to open the car door with the same hand that held the fob - NOTHING OPENED!!!!! And to activate the fob, just push any button - and it returns to normal!!!!

Dont take my word for it .................try it!

Good luck and safe car retention

Totally agree. I posted this exact item some time ago. One reply I received was a fariday pouch was easier than switching the key off!

IMHO if you need to carry a pouch, open it, insert the key into it then put it in your pocket why not press the two buttons on the key fob instead - simples!!

  3. Unfortunately I am using a 68 reg Land Rover Discovery Sport at the moment as my NX Premier was side swiped by an ancient Nissan Note! Fortunately no-one was injured in the accident and the third party and his insurers admitted full liability the next day.

Anyway, the accident asides, in my (and my wife’s) impression is the LR Is quieter (and that is with it having low profile tyres) but imho the interior and comfort is not up to the NX standards. Also with a normal auto gearbox v the CVT, the auto seems a bit snatchy, BUT the LR is a very good vehicle.

I also have a hearing problem and still I would go for the refinement of the NX before the LR.

  4. I still use the “press and hold the lock button on the key fob whilst at the same time quickly press the unlock button twice”

This disables the Battery in the fob, therefore no signal is emitted.

If you remember to put your keys in a bag, then surely you can remember to use the lock system every time you leave your car,

    Each to their own!

  5. Many thanks @DanD. I spoke to the Service Manager last Saturday at a "Winter Warmer" event at the Dealers premises and he said to give him a call the next time I was planning on being in the area (59 mile from my home) and they would inspect it and see what can be done. Your post certainly helps as if they don't want to replace anything it gives me some leverage.

  6. I very rarely close the blind but after this post I had a look and mine is the same. I’m visiting the dealer on Saturday so I’ll see what they say.

I am having an issue with my pan roof, or rather with the electric blind.

Where the blind comes into contact with the roof over the sun visor upon closing, the trim is coming unstuck.

Has anyone got the same issue and know of a permanent fix?

The obvious is to glue the trim back but I'm concern that it will only be a temporary fix...

Has anyone had the same issue and fixed it?

    Thanks

It’s all good and well when you are at home switching off the fob BUT scanners can pickup fobs from quite a distance… so you are at the supermarket or a restaurant then you get scanned, CARS GONE or do you switch off the fob every time you close the doors?

It must be better to get “automatic” protection with an immobiliser… what’s the worth of your car… as we are talking Lexus the cost of immobilise is SO small.

It's just a habit. Once you get used to it! Every time I get out of the car I automatically switch the fob off.

It also saves me £400 - but I'm a Scot living in Yorkshire - enough said!!!!!

  8. My wife’s Yaris Icon Tech has the same feature. IMHO it’s as useful as a chocolate teapot!

As has been stated in the previous posts here it doesn’t read some signs, for no reason it can state 70mph in a 20mph limit and after a while it cancels itself then restarts when it reads another speed sign.

I certainly would never rely on it and in fact it has been switched off in her car.

  9. @First_Lexus Funnily enough Ed, I insured our home for the first time this year with Direct Line for the same reasons as yourself. I think once you insure with a company for the first year the premium will inevitably increase at renewal. That is the norm in that business.

Also last year I insured my Lexus and my wife’s Toyota with AVIVA as they offered the best price for the cover at that time.

I (and I'm sure many others) generally insure based on price. I only go for a company I've heard of, but I haven't really thought about 'how' companies will deal with me should I need to claim, assuming that they're all pretty similar. Reading this thread has been a wake-up call for me. I'm with Admiral, but next time will look at service ratings as well as price. NFU will be on my list.

Renewing my home insurance this morning I did look at the various feedback sites and ended up going for Direct Line. Upside was they were also one of the cheapest, and the simplest in terms of the questions they ask. I was with More Than last year, but when their renewal quote went up by 50% based on the price paid last year (and they wouldn't reduce it, saying it was their best price) I decided to look elsewhere.

I have been following this with interest and it does seem that admiral are not the best company to be insured with!!

I have never known anyone have to pay an excess on no fault accidents, or have to forego an foc hire car, this all seems very sloppy on their part.

Don’t think they are the only insurers doing this!

Right. Im not liking the idea of Auxillis. I especially don't like that it's a separate contract and they could try to charge me!

Unfortunately that does mean we will lose our £450 excess. We don't have motor legal which Admiral kindly explained so I don't doubt Admiral Law will phone us tomorrow to take it out, which might actually be worthwhile depending on cost/worthiness.

NCD is protected which allows 2 claims in 3 years. The previous claim was in Nov 2015 so that should be OK too.

@rayaans another way re the excess is to claim this direct from the third party (once you get the details) under “uninsured losses”

To me your insurance company should be doing this automatically. IMHO you should not need to get involved apart from advising your insurance company as you have already done.

Sorry to learn of this incident and good luck with the outcome.
