  1. Curious. The garage tested it for a few hours, can't find any sign of a leak.
  2. It's easy enough to do yourself. Transponder key programming: https://gist.github.com/m4rkw/d4171ec9426074f550fe0fc23992d360 Remote key programming: https://gist.github.com/m4rkw/d8fb47cac34a534205ae6c6afb16eb07
  3. I'm not sure there's a transmission cooler on mine, haven't seen one anyway. It's a Harrier, so not allowed to tow with it because there's no weight specification on the V5 or the vin plate. I'll check the fluid though.
  4. That is good news - thankyou. Someone else suggested changing the transmission fluid and oil pre-emptively just on the offchance they got a bit hot, what do you think? Both are fairly fresh, transmission was done last year and the oil about 1000 miles ago. I don't think it was hot for very long so I'm leaning towards just leaving those but.. not sure.
  5. Does anyone know how the temperature gauge is calibrated, i.e. what temperatures the notches on it equate to? I know the middle is the normal operating range, and it's probably a range rather than a specific temp. Just trying to figure out what the potential impact is of getting up to the notch before the top. Since there was no check engine light and the car seems to be running fine I'm hoping I got away with it but still curious to know what the calibration is.
  6. The loss isn't as dramatic as first thought. After my quick drive yesterday it was still basically full, barely took another half a cup this morning.
  7. Yeah, I filled up the radiator and took it for a quick drive, not very far at all. Came back, expansion tank level looks about the time. Will check it again tomorrow. It's all fairly academic at this point as there's very likely a leak somewhere so it's going to the garage on monday, but will still be interesting to see just how quickly it's leaking. Apparently there are a couple of places where it can leak without pooling on the ground.
  8. I actually didn’t realise i also needed to fill the radiator through the radiator cap, started filling that this morning and that took a fair bit too. I reckon i’ve added maybe a litre so far.
  9. After cooling down it’s low again, once again below the visible area on the expansion tank. Seems like it’s losing coolant fairly quickly but still nothing visible on the ground or anywhere ai can see in the engine bay. Gonna avoid driving it until I can take it to the garage.
  10. So I topped it up at lunchtime to just under the full level, left it until just now, checked again - still at the full level, no marks on the ground. Drove it for about 15mins a mile down the road and back. Checked it idling with the AC on, didn't seem to be overheating. The coolant level has dropped by about 1cm from where it was though - is that likely just because it's hot or could it indicate the coolant going somewhere? I'll check again later when it's cooled down.
  11. Got some coolant from Toyota, topped it up. It wasn't extremely low, as soon as I started pouring it is I could see it at the bottom of the expansion tank, so the level was just underneath where that starts. Booked in for checks on Monday.
  12. I tried, nothing. I think there’s none there
  13. Also there's a circular clip shown on those photos in the same vicinity that looks vaguely red-ish, but it could just be dirt and rainwater.
  14. Had a good look around the engine bay, I can't see any signs of red or pink anywhere but I did notice there's another plastic tank underneath the battery on the right and underneath that I can see a lot of what looks like white corrosion on the metal floor underneath. Possibly a sign of a leak down there? Not had any smoke at all from it and the oil filler cap and dipstick both look good.
  15. I check my oil quite regularly but always assumed the car would tell me if the coolant was low. I guess in a way it has 😄
  16. So does seem like it’s lost a fair bit of coolant. No visible leaks on the ground. This isn’t looking good 😕
  17. The lower hose has water in it, I can feel it. The upper one is empty though.
  18. I assume you mean the large hose that goes to the top of the engine? Squeezed it quite a bit, no visible water in the cap. I don’t have any coolant to add but I guess I’ll have to get some before I take it in to the garage. Will halfords coolant do or does it need to be the toyota stuff?
  19. This looks like the radiator cap? No water in it, just a tiny bit at the bottom. It’s connected to the top of the radiator by the expansion tank.
  20. Impossible to tell if there's anything in this with a light.
  21. Thanks Colin, seems like good news that I’ve apparently caught it before dangerous temperatures were hit. Will try your suggestion later. Just praying I don’t have a blown head gasket.
  22. Meh, Techstream doesn’t want to connect, I’ll try again later. Does anyone know for sure if a 2006 RX would definitely throw a CEL if the coolant was low? I’d have thought it would but I don’t know. Nothing in the owners manual about it that I could see.
  23. Ok so I may be wrong, it looked empty but it may not be. I remember now when they did the last coolant change they said the expansion tank had discoloured such that you can't see the level. I tried opening the lid and I can poke a stick into but it just runs into hard plastic that is above where the FULL line is, so I can't actually see if there's coolant in there or not. But given that it cooled down quickly after I drove it and I have no warnings, I'm going to hope it's not losing coolant. Will see if I still have techstream, that might tell me something.
  24. None. But I don't see any coolant in the reservoir so guessing that's probably bad.
