Headlamps
Pidster replied to Hackett's topic in LS 400 / Lexus LS 430 / Lexus LS 460 / Lexus 600h / Lexus 500h Club
Royoftherovers your reply to the OP "You will need left hand drive lamps to pass the Spanish ITV." Does that mean you cannot adjust or reset the lamps to suit Spanish requirements. I ask this as I am living in Spain, Murcia already and planning to get Spanish plates on my LS430. Is there a work around, like reposition brackets? Or do you need a new reflector body, the link you gave doesn't say anything about the head lamps, just general statements. Sent from my EML-L09 using Tapatalk -

Hi Milly I own a LS430 and for that model the head lights have to be on for the washers to work when you press the button. It might be the same for you. Sent from my AGS-W09 using Tapatalk -
Sorry to butt in on this post, but messi and The-Acre mentioned rust on the front doors being a problem on the LS430. Is it an obviously seen fault or is it hidden until it's too late, my door's look good but if it's hidden I don't mind checking it out and rectifying before it does become a problem. Thank's for your reply ambermarine, before I look to contacting Paul, I may as well take the opportunity to remove the sun roof to better assess my situation. Do you know if there are any threads on removing the liner and the sun roof, so that I can DIY it myself. I have tried to use the search function in tapatalk but whether it's my phone or just my stupidity I can't get to grips with the search function. Thank's again for your advice the_pidster Sent from my EML-L09 using Tapatalk

In May this year my head was turned away from looking for an S class Mercedes, to a LS430 when I viewed on in a trader's pen and went for a test drive, sold! No, not that particular car but that model it had everything I was looking for. So my searching switched to Lexus, in my search I viewed quite a few and all the one's I viewed appeared to have similar fault's, steering wheel rake and angle not working, under body rust, alloy wheel"s corroding and flaking rust under the leading edge of the moon/sun roof. I continued my search until I found the one. Steering wheel rake and angle still not working, under body rust minimal, alloy wheel corrosion acceptable, flaking under leading edge of sun roof acceptable, and the main selling point cheap in comparison to others I had seen in a much worse condition. As I was buying the car as a rolling restoration to break the boredom of retirement I was happy to proceed. What a car I been to Spain and back twice and the car has been great. Maintenance wise I have carried out general servicing, fitted rear discs and pads, flushed the brakes and filled with new fluid, drained the diff and filled with new gear oil and have just finished painting the rear running gear with Bill Hirsh miracle paint. I am now ready to move onto the moon/sun roof rust problem which I considered acceptable, more fool me, when I look further the rust has eaten away more than I thought (see photos) the rust on the leading edge I feel will be easily dealt with but the rust around the bend is inaccessible, do I have to take the sun roof off, if so how? Or is there another remedial solution? Sent from my EML-L09 using Tapatalk

Pobrown, I received the disc you sent me through the post. A very big thumbs up for that, much appreciated. But sad to say no joy still getting the message unable to read data. So I'm going to have one more go at cleaning the laser lense before calling it a day, and accepting that I don't have sat nav, other than on a stand alone unit. Sent from my EML-L09 using Tapatalk -

Here are photos of the disc I received with the vehicle. I noticed it states ver 2002 yet the car is 2003 registered. Sent from my EML-L09 using Tapatalk -

there's a more worrying issue that you might like to consider having effectively bought your fabulous car through the auction that is: Has the radiator been changed ? to prevent the gearbox water ingress issues If you know all about the idiosyncracies of the Ls430 then i apologise upfront for mentioning this. Malc I am aware of this possible problem in fact the lower fins on the radiator are degraded quite a bit the outlet couplings to the transmission look good though. I'm considering which way to jump, As I only live a few miles down the road from Tony Frost , it might be a good condition radiator v's oil cooler modification. But not necessarily both. To scudney. That's fine but how many disc's do I try at £XX each to find out that the fault is elsewhere? Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk -

To royoftherovers. Not really able to find that out, the guy I bought the car from gave me the DVD in an envelope and when I asked him about it he said that was how it came from the auction house. Although I do have the name and address of the original owner from new, I feel a bit cheeky contacting him. Data protection and all that! Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk -

No the DVD goes in the boot DVD drive. CD'S would go in the multiple cd drive if I could get it powered up Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk -

Thankyou all for responding to my call for help. Let me expand on what I have done so far. I have had the DVD unit out of the vehicle to check for damage and function, so that should have disconnected any fuses and electrical connection's. I have made sure the disc is in the right way up, that is shiny side down with label up. I cannot tell if it is the correct disc, it's the only one I have. Would a photo help? If so I will take out the disc and take a snap. One other thing there doesn't seem to be any power to the multi change CD unit, could this be a clue to my problem? Although the tape and radio work. I have checked all the fuses since purchase and the only blown one I found was to the cigar lighter, due to being stuffed full of junk (silver paper etc.) Oh also I have tried inserting disc under various conditions, engine running, not running, ignition off/on. Although I am not desperate for sat nav, it would be nice to have, as there may be other functions come to light eg. service reminder etc. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk -
I have just recently become the owner of a 2003 LS430,great car with one or two niggles my main one at the moment is that the sat nav is not working, the screen shows "unable to read data. Check if map DVD is correct. " Let me explain I bought the car privately from a wheeler dealer fellow who got the car at auction, he gave me the DVD he got with the car, it says 2003 on the DVD but when I put it in the drive although it whirls up as if loading I get the message on screen, I have checked the DVD in my laptop and it seems to read all the files correctly. So my question is where do I go next? Are there codes or routines I need to go through to reset the screen! Or is there any other module I need to check. Any help or advice would be great Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk
