  1. Hi all. I've just fitted a Grom VLine LITE (VT1) in my RX300 (after literally months of faffing about trying to source the right display cable!) and it's great with my wife's IPhone as apple play works a treat. However with my android phone it is beyond hopeless as I only seem to be able to connect it via Bluetooth or WiFi tethering using the DashLinQ app which seems to me to be really quite rubbish. No Bluetooth calling or nav app at all. I thought I'd be able to use android auto, does anyone know if its possible?
  2. I don't know about the warning lights but, as others have said, I do wonder whether the humming is just a tyre thing. What sort of tyres are fitted?
  3. I had a similar experience with a 'dealer' at a compound in Old Wolverton, MK. Rx400h, full lexus history, 1 owner, no problems at all apparently. Turned up, car absolutely filthy, exhaust blowing badly (1st excuse: It's meant to sound like that; 2nd excuse: it's because it's been sitting for a couple of weeks! When I looked underneath and saw the rusty exhaust held together with tinfoil he then offered to pay for HALF the cost of repair if I bought it. He would not accept that it needed replacing despite the fact that it had almost completely disintegrated). Brakes weak Car pulling strongly to the left Aircon not working: "everything has been checked and car is mechanically perfect, no way compressor can be broken". Told me I'd have to get it regassed myself. Service history suspiciously uniform; same stamp, same pen & handwriting for all services. Asked about timing belt: "oh no its a chain". I then took great delight in showing him a sticker on the engine cover saying "timing belt changed" with a date (not a recent one of course!). And finally, of course, he tried to pretend that the car had had an mot 6 months previously whereas in actual fact it would have run out if it wasn't for the 6 month Covid19 extension. The way he was trying to talk his way round all the issues was very funny in hindsight. I've forgotten the name of the dealer now but the compound was down a lane next to the Galleon pub in Old Wolverton. Don't go there! Sorry for going a bit off topic but I guess the point is that if something doesn't feel right I would argue it's not worth persuing. There are some real crooks out there. Plenty of fish and all that....
  4. I've discovered this thread too late having now bought a used Grom VLite! (not that I can use the damn thing as getting hold of the right display harness is proving to be a bit of a hassle to say the least). As far as I can tell though, Grom are still the only company making a unit that uses the built in nav screen for phone mirroring...?
  5. LS's are great and if you get a good one it will go on and on. Why not just try and find one without warning lights on? A few more miles on the clock would be fine (as long as its got a water-tight service record) if that helps to bring a few more cars in budget. (If this is the only one you can find in budget with that sort of mileage then for me that rings a few alarm bells in itself).
  6. Thanks chaps! I have 2 friends with extremely elderly Lexuses and they are amazing cars (both have been bulletproof) which sowed the seed as it were. The RX has still surpassed expectations, drives like a new car.
  7. Hi all Excuse my asking a question so soon after joining but I wondered if anyone with an electronically aware sort of brain might be able to help me out. I've bought a cheap used Grom Audio VLite for my RX300 (an early 2nd gen with nav but not the Mark Levinson system) so that my original screen can be used for phone mirroring. The Grom unit itself is the correct one but it came with a display harness for a GS. (The power harness is correct). Grom are out of stock of the "VTOY" harness I need so I wondered if it might be possible to doctor the GS harness by changing the plug on the end to the type that would fit into the back of my display unit. I'm probably barking up the wrong tree but it seems funny that I've got all the gear but am being thwarted by a plug! Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated.... Andy
  8. Evening everyone, nice to be here! I have recently bought a one-owner, fsh 2003 RX300 in great nick and I'm really chuffed with it. Only real problem was a hissing radio which I was aware of when I bought it. I eventually narrowed down to a fault in the amplifier so I replaced it with one from a scrapper (£90) and all good now. It was a nightmare to access mind, I expected over-engineering but really.....! Other than that there's condensation in one of the headlamps which i'll sort at some point (I made a half hearted attempt with a hair dryer and a tube of sealant but it steamed straight up again next time I drove the car!) and a slightly irritating clicking noise behind the dash which I presume is that servo thing that seems to be an issue on these from what I've read. I'll sort it if it actually fails but it's working fine atm. And that's it. An amazing car for not a lot of money, couldn't be happier!
