I was very lucky to recently stumble upon this GS460 so wasted no time in acquiring it.
It's in pretty good condition with just a few fairly minor items to address including a routine service. At this early stage of ownership I'm not sure whether I shall simply restore it to order to be enjoyed in its original form or 'enhanced' for a little extra fun. I've started researching the detail of the GS460 and the potential to develop it a little. However it progresses, I thought it would be worth starting a build thread as it's rare to see a GS in this form.
It's been called upon for work duty so hasn't been in a decent clean state for pictures yet so for as long as it remains available on You Tube, here is a link to the video the dealer made in support of the sale.

best to speak (email) to them direct, as listings on their website are very limited... they have the full stock available and I've found them to be helpful. Sometimes good value, sometimes not, but typically my first place to check to set the baseline price.
Cheers, I am also looking to replace the radiator on my '04 SC430 and the parts are confusing.
Denso 221-3175 according to some US guys and my SC says Denso 122750-7020

And same old 70s porn music ffs 🤦🏼♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣
you’d do yourself a huge benefit if you changed the intro music, I know I switch off the minute it starts, as it’s so repetitive and annoying IMOThanks, I do change the intro music for most videos (if you see my Yaris Hybrid video for example). I will check out Neil's website and see what I can use for the next video 😄

Another great vid Thomas, well done. Perhaps Santa could bring you a drone and a 4 post lift for Christmas to keep up with those Savagegeese. 🙂
Happy to lend you my SC to throw around a track for the drift shots.
I would love to see your SC in person one day!! Urgh I used to have 'cheap' drones (£300-400 mark) but I lost both when filming years ago and I don't know if I could justify forking out £1200+ on a DJ phantom etc?? 😛
Aww I would love a 4 post lift but my garage is too low for that heheOh I will check that out for music cheers, I am always looking for new music!!

Hi Thomas, my bodywork craftsman got rid of the noise (that only occurred when the top was up) by applying a light smear of silicon grease to the moving parts of the folding mechanism.
Then the ride (on our awful Sussex back roads) deteriorated. Some of the tyre pressures were low - upping them to correct level of 33psi got rid of the poor ride.
To be fair, my benchmark is an ‘07 96k GS450h with brand new Goodyear SportMaxx, very quiet tyres.
Now clacking noises (not squeaks) behind me at my right shoulder have just reappeared. Three thoughts:
1. over-inflate the tyres slightly,
2. ask my tyre fitter for his advice, it could simply be that the SC’s tyres are old and hard, despite having plenty of tread.
3. are the original shock absorbers tired? But the recent MoT had no advisories.
Overall, like me, the SC needs a holiday in the sun. It’s a clean machine...
If it helps I put new rubber on my car earlier this year as they were quite old tyres. Hmm clacking would suggest suspension to me but I am not an expert. Perhaps guru Neil could save you ?

Hey everyone,
December time now in Scotland and I have my SC430 in the garage most nights. I have 2 annoying things happening right now; #1 sat nav now doesn't read disc (and it has been fine since I got the car in March)
#2 The roof is starting to squeak when I raise and lower it.
I am still enjoying the car overall and grateful for the forum for the help over the months. Thanks, Thomas 🙂
Ps I also made an in-depth video on my SC430 if anyone wishes to see it? (link below)otla

Squeaks behind me in my ‘03 SC430... Looks from Youtube like I need to thoroughly clean the boot and rubber seals of any vegetation, dust & debris, then apply very light smears of silicone lubricant to the operational metalwork, then have a nice long, quiet (?) test drive.
Next project: find a simple way to replace the crackling nearside bass door-speaker. I get around the problem with the audio-balance control...
BTW, have now done 11k miles since buying my dark blue/white leather/bird’s eye maple car in early 2018. Tip: American Once A Year wax really does work.
Has anyone driven both an early version like my ‘03 and a 2006 onwards model? Is it worth the extra money? And is it simplest to just fit to mine better/newer shock absorbers? I put on the quietest quality non-run-flat tyres in 2018.
Thanks, mine has started to squeak today when I put the roof up & down.

Hey everyone,
I hope you are all well?
Sorry I haven't been as active on this forum the last month or so. I have been driving my SC430 quite a bit recently and I am now past 134k miles (almost 135k at time of this post). I am pleased to report the car is running well and the hard top is sure getting its work cut out for it from the torrential rain we had here for most of October! I am still trying to save up to get my exhaust replaced/fixed but other than that I am enjoying the SC. I have been frequently travelling from Helensburgh to Bo'ness during the week and its been fun in the morning but on the way home the headlight illumination on that back road to Balloch is like having 2 candle lit lanterns.
I made a short video on my car at this mileage as a sort of update as well as a bit of video enjoyment for SC430 fans. -

Great video Thomas. Lovely roads to drive on. Did you bag any Munros on the tour?
I shall be up in the Highlands again before the year is out I'm sure.
Thanks Neil, sadly not. I will aim to climb one next year when the weather is better 🙂
Aww you should! -

Hi Thomas, thanks for the info - will watch the youtube vids as well. To be honest I have an EML on my IS300 - the lambda sensors seem to go on older cars. I like the blue colour on your one - I dont think im going to buy one before spring unless an exceptional one comes up for sale. cheers
well I guess there is no rush, I am sure the right one will pop up for you.
Why thank you, I did hunt for a blue one and glad I seen it pop up when I did :)

Ps: Eddie, I don't want to put you off with my last post Eddie, it was just what I experienced 🙂
The SC430 is a great car and I love cruising in it roof down!
If you are not aware I have a YT channel 'REV LEXUS' for my Lexus cars, there's a few on my SC430 and my experiences with it over the recent months. It might be of benefit to you (just thought I'd let you are of it). Here is a link to one of my SC430 problem videos if you are curious:- 5

Hey all,
I hope you are all well?
I am still loving my '04 RX 300 and Lexus Glasgow loaned myself their new RX 450h F Sport Takumi. It got myself thinking about the technology & how far Lexus has came over the last 15 years or so!
My main thought is however, the second gen RX can be had for around £3-5k these days and the new RX 450h that I tested was over £62k!
I know we all love our Lexus RX models regardless of year, I was just thinking with regards to everything the mk2 offers is the mk4 worth £55k+ more?
What are your thoughts on the RX? (I've seen/heard from some of you great prices that you guys have paid for 2nd gen RX models)

Hi all,
I am a long term Lexus owner, have had my IS300 aero since new. I am thinking about getting an SC430, like the idea of a V8 and a sporty convertible.
What should I look for and what are the main problems that an SC430 can have? Thanks in advance
Hi Eddie,
I bought my SC430 in March (virtually from Facebook marketplace).
The main issue/common problem is the water pump (& I believe cambelt) that needs replaced every 100k miles or 10 years. (the v8 is an interference motor so if it breaks it damages components vs the V6 motors). I have had issues with my O2 sensor (still ongoing to resolve) and with the age of the car just check the radio works and the roof works 🙂Some owners put the cars on normal tyres as the run flats can be a little firm.
I hope this helps??- 1

Did you take your ISF? -
Hey everyone,
I am not long back from taking my Lexus SC 430 around the north coast 500 (NC 500). I actually managed just over 700 miles in 3 days in the SC.
I highly recommend the route to anyone that is yet to travel around the north of Scotland? My top tip would be to top up your fuel when you can as the petrol stations are few and far between!
Please see some photos of my travel below 🙂
Enjoy, Thomas- 2
