  1. Hi all. I am looking for some advice towards my situation. I bought my Lexus GS300 (2003) in October 2020 for £3,000. It had 84,000 on it and has a folder full of history - has had the radiator replaced as well as the cambelt at 70,000. Since owning the car I have paid for the following work: -Rear break discs and pads -New battery -New front driver tyre - Lexus service -Power steering fluid flush and replaced -Power steering rack bushes replaced -Lower control arms replaced -Top control arms replaced I am almost certain the the ABS rings need replaced or possibly ABS sensor - which is going to be done soon. I suppose my question is along the lines of is it worth continuing to pay for repairs - it now has 96,000 miles and everything else works perfectly - I put it in Lexus group online and people saying it is worth £1,000-£1,500 at best, which I find strange considering LS400 with double mileage and 6 years older being sold for £6k - I appreciate it isn’t as desirable as a LS400 Most of this work is general maintenance, which is required on most vehicles, and I am slightly shocked at the prices quoted to sell and I wonder if it is worth keeping and continuing to put money in or if I am better off selling it - would appreciate peoples views?
  2. Hi all, I am looking for a Lexus GS450h (pre 2012 model) so the 2005-2011 with ivory interior and dark centre console; I think most of these have dark exterior, I’ve only seen them with black or navy… Ideally id want a low mileage one with good service history as will be looking to keep it for many more years! if anybody has one for sale please feel free to message me on here. It will be a cash buy so straight forward and happy to travel through UK for one.
  3. So I was looking at Which? To see if the GS450H was any good and the LS600H is their highest rated car car they have reviewed with 84% and a Which? Best Buy. It’s not very economical for a hybrid, more performance so you’re likely to achieve around 25MPG. With that being said it looks to be a lovely car.

Hasn’t moved for 6 years. I’m always put off my cars that don’t move, be interested to get others perspective. what would likely need replaced? - all four tyres, battery, front and rears breaks and full oil change and filter would likely set one back by around £1,500 just to get it back on the road
  5. How reliable are the GS450h? I’ve been looking on auto trader and some reasonable ones on there for around £7,000 with 50,000 miles on them for a 2009 reg. I test drove a 2018 GS300 and a 2017 GS450h the other day and I have to say they would make for an excellent commuting vehicle - I was interested to know what difference there is between let’s say a 2012 GS450H compared to a 2009 GS450H (other than the obvious being aesthetic) - is there better suspension etc? Also how reliable are these cars and how comfortable would people feel getting them to say 200k? - I’ve seen a 2012 reg GS450H with 79,000 on the clock for £12,990. Also, on this caliber of vehicle, does specification make a lot of difference between Luxury, premier and F-Sport? All views would be greatly welcomed.
  6. Looking at buying my partner a Lexus from the RX range for a towing vehicle. She is towing livestock (horse) - horse is about 700kg and trailer will be about 1,000kg. Does anybody have any experience towing livestock with Lexus RX range and is it recommended? The vehicle will probably only be used for towing and it will be used around 8/10 times a year (will be used a couple of times a month to keep it running adequately etc). I was looking at the RX300 or the RX350. Any suggestions? thanks
  7. Hi all, I have recently noticed this slight knocking noise on my GS300. It tends to appear when turning the wheel and pulling off from the spot. Strangely enough it doesn’t make any noise when driving at speed. Yesterday, I moved some furniture to another house and it appeared that the weight intensified the noise more. Any suggestions? (There are some squeaks with the seat in the video but the main noise is the knock/clunk when turning wheel and accelerating)
  8. Spot on, I noticed another gentleman posted this earlier on the group below this thread. I feel the mileage has been clocked and there is some colorful accounting. As always, if it is too good to be true, it usually is. Hope this helps anyone who is looking at this car so that they aren't *possibly* scammed.
  9. Just called Lexus Edgeware. They said that it looks legitimate. However, in 2013 they recorded the mileage as 39,721, however, in 2015 it was 7,347. He stated that this may have just been a typo error because every other mileage after that is keeping inline with the 17,000 mileage (i.e. 2,000 miles a year roughly). I feel that it may have been clocked; the stamps in the book, if you look in blue the have the year reg correlating to the stamp, however, in 2013 they have a 2016 year stamp, in 2015 they have a 2016 stamp and in 2016 they have a 2016 stamp. From 2017 it has a 17 stamp and so on for the accurate year. The hybrid battery has also gone, which is making me thing has this car in fact done 170,000 rather than 17,000. The gentleman on the phone said that provided the service was with Lexus (which it was) the hybrid battery is guaranteed for a year, however, it is unheard of for the hybrid battery system to go wrong at such little mileage, but it could be possible... I'd be interested to get other peoples perspective with regards to this?
  10. Looking at buying a Lexus GS450h (REG: LB08YXT) the advert states it has 17,000 mileage and the price is £6,750 (£7,750) with new hybrid battery. The engine light is on and the seller stated that he is currently having the hybrid battery replaced, therefore, the price will be the higher figure stated, £7,750. I am interested to hear peoples opinions on this. Part of me feels like the offer is too good to be true. The gentleman sent me the service history, which appears legitimate with Lexus of Edgeware stamps; I was planning on calling them and checking this is accurate before driving to test drive/buy. The location of said vehicle is in North London. The ad is as follows; 2008 Blue Lexus GS 450h 3.5 SE CVT 4dr for sale for £6750 in Whetstone, Borough Of Barnet (autotrader.co.uk) Are there any faults or issues with this specific mark of GS450h that I need to be aware of? Also, any other views would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  11. It’s been doing it for a few weeks; not all the time though. No leaks from what I can see and it’s ever so faint; it sounds more electrical rather than mechanical which makes me think maybe it’s a sensor? Nothing in the dash. Very strange.
  12. Hi all. My 2003 GS300 is making a noise when turning the wheel and breaking - it makes a noise like ‘durrrrrm’ for 1 second and then ‘thud thud thud thud’ and the break pedal taps every so slightly (almost as if ABS is locked on) - it doesn’t do it all the time only occasionally, what could this be?

  14. Just seen this on Ebay and if my circumstances hadn’t have drastically changed over the last week and if this was available in about 12 weeks time I would’ve bought
  15. it appears to be making a slightly odd noise when running? - almost like a faint hight pitch squeal?
  16. I looked at that but unfortunately can only bid if you have trading licence - so not open to the public as it’s an auction. It’s stupid and annoying.
  17. Has anybody looked at this Gold one in Hemel Hempstead? £3,000 and has 109,000. Looks clean inside. The MOT history states there’s some major defects in Feb 2020, looks like these were fixed, nothing reported in December 2020; likely a trade in, wonder if they cleaned up any issues or just masked them other with a ‘false’ MOT? Any thoughts? - this is the link; https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202009163803604?advertising-location=at_cars&is-quick-search=TRUE&postcode=B976SG&model=LS 400&page=1&make=LEXUS&include-delivery-option=on&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&advertClassification=standard
  18. Looks like you’re interested in that yourself buddy! I’m always somewhat skeptical when somebody who buys a car like that and sells it on after 2 months later - he bought it off FB in November had some servicing work done and the rust treatment etc and now wants close to £4K... I mean it could be legitimate sale with that being said, it could be legitimate; I think I’ll message him. The one the gentleman has in store with 30,000 in Northern Ireland is likely to cost a lot and would probably be more of an investment for somebody wanting on in the future rather than something you’d use for a daily!
  19. MK1 and Mk2 may be worth money in the future but let’s be honest, whose going to want one with 150k + that has been parked outside for 20 years or has a LPG kit / modifications attached; they are the majority that I see for sale! The real niche ones that have been jacked up and kept in a garage for years might be worth a pretty penny in the future but how many of them are around? I see that one for £10k online which has been there for months; not sure if there has been any interest this far but price hasn’t changed... I think Lexus has a very niche following here in the UK, especially the LS400. It would take a brave person to speculatively invest £10k into that!
  20. The white one for £1,500 on auto trader has been sold. I looked earlier today there was nothing, looked around 16:00 and they’ve just got back to me saying it’s been sold. There is also one on Gumtree 1999 reg with history and timing belt changed. £2,750 but has 180k - wants a quick sale but ideally I would prefer less mileage. I have looked at the one you posted, if I remember correctly it’s in Birmingham and the guy wanted £4,000 but was open to offers. I’ve contacted the company whom I bought my GS300 from and the guy said he has a LS400 coming in with low mileage, he will need to replace water pump and cambelt etc but would let me know when it arrives and how much it will be, you it is 1997 reg and has 30,000; full service history up to 2014; I expect he will want a pretty penny for it. I think I’ll wait until I hear from this and if not maybe look at the one that has had the rust treatment.
  21. I’ve just noticed that a white 1992 one has become available with 100,000 miles for £1,500. MOT looks clean but currently doesn’t have a MOT.
  22. Thanks all. I saw said vehicle today; it wasn’t in the best condition; looks like there has been front damage, under the headlight there was a gap and side panel was a different colour. Leather wasn’t in best condition - I didn’t give it anymore time. Not for me, I’d rather pay more money for a clean example. It is extremely difficult to find one in good condition; likely that most owners know their worth and won’t sell them. I remember seeing a green one on Auto Trader for £5,000 which was in good condition, it has gone now but I feel my budget will need to be higher than 2-3k if I want a nice one with reasonable mileage and maintenance etc. I shall continue with my hunting!
  23. Thanks for this info. Is it a MK3? I thought the 1995 reg was MK2? With regards to price, I don’t often see any available for £2,000-£2,500 range. Thanks
