The Alpine SW815 is an astonishing sub. It got tons of great reviews. I had it in a mk4.5 mondeo and depending on what music it shook the car.

With your car I'd recommend wiring the power direct from the 12v battery but using a quick blow fuse really close to the battery. Negative can be got from a good clean metal part of your car. You'll need an ignition on power feed to switch the sub amp on. Music source ideally from behind the radio unit or from your existing ML amp, you can piggyback the remote power on from that by the way. Sounds complicated but common sense is all you need. There are videos on YouTube on wiring in an external sub.

Oh for example of boot space taken by the SW815. Had it first in a mk3 focus. I could fit a baby buggy and a good medium sized holdall in the boot with the sub in place.

    fantastic, makes sense

    the Sw815 is very appealing.
i listen to music with lots of lower frequencies and sub bass 🙂
would you say that i may need a bigger sub to really appreciate the lower frequencies? (perhaps a 10 or 12?)

would you happen to know where i can get hold of the speaker/audio mapping on my car? (i.e. the way its all set out at the moment - speaker/amp/sub locations etc)
i could phone the dealership i suppose but im not sure of where u can obtain such information (ive checked the documentation that came with the car but theres nothing specific)

    mines is a CT200 69 plate (premium)
unsure if its the 10 or 12 speaker set up 🥴

    thank you

Hi Joe. You'll have to be careful about installing an extra sub because of one cancelling out the other. A phase issue (correct terminology escapes me). It would be best to disconnect the ML sub and introduce another sub. Not necessarily a bigger sub as too many large subs are cheap rubbish. I've used the Alpine SW815 with outstanding results. A self powered sub needs power so you'd need to get a 12v supply from the battery and a good earth then a remote power on from an ignition fed supply then a source which can be got from a speaker. Sounds complicated but it's simple.

Many thanks for the reply Mr Vlad

youre right, ive heard about two subs cancelling each other out so i will definitely look into disconnecting the current one. the SW815 looks really good, thanks for the recommendation. good output and sound?

since this is a hybrid/electric car, is there anything i need to be careful with in terms of the different wiring/power that might be in this car? any considerations i should know about compared to a standard car?

    thanks for your help

  3. Hello all,

    just a quick question

i currently have a CT200 with a mark leverson sound system which is fantastic as i really do love it. cant fault it

it already has an 8 inch sub somewhere in the car but now have the urge for some more bass 😁

im looking for a quick way to add some bass in the boot perhaps and was thinking maybe a Powered bass tube  (something that already has an internal amp)

would there be an easy way to connect this up?

    just thought id ask

    thanks

    Joe

  4. hello all, hope youre all well

i thought id reply to this topic instead of starting a new one....

im due to take delivery of a 68 plate ct200h with the upgraded 10inch display and ML audio

been searching around the internet for specific information regarding the Mark Levinson on the Ct200's but im unable to really find out specifics

can anyone with an upgraded system answer the following if you don't mind?

[1] what are the main differences in the upgraded 10 inch compared to the 7 inch?
i.e. isit just the size of the screen or are there key software changes, more options, new sub sections etc?

[2] in regards to the ML system. how customisable isit? are there options to change bass, treble, bass, perhaps more soundscape options as well?
    different audio profiles?

[3] how good is the subwoofer? do you find that the low frequencies come through well when cranked to, say, 70/80 percent volume?

    many thanks
    Joe

  5. Hello all

just wondering if anyone knows of a reliable website that could possibly show me the insurance claim history of a particular reg?

im the market for a lexus hybrid and would like to know this information (CAT thefts to be exact)

im not sure if websites are allowed to expose such information but just thought id ask

    thank you

Since I had my Catloc fitted in Feb this year no issues whatsoever. No drop in economy. No scraping over speed bumps.

thank you! thats good to know

planning on getting the CAT marked and registered as well?

The Catloc kit comes with 2 stickers for the windows and the fitter will be marking the cat before fitting the Catloc cover. The dealer should then automatically register the car after.I know mine did.

Many thanks for the confirmation, much appreciated

Have u noticed any issues when going over speed bumps with the catlock on, or anything of that sort?

    Thanks

  8. thank you everyone for your comments.
i will definitely look into driving styles and do my research based on what is said here

had an initial conversation with a dealership today

68 plate (17k miles), premier edition. black. looks nice with leather etc. (£17.500)

absolutely no budging on price he said (our network prices are final and cannot be altered blah blah) 😁
enquired about a cat lock - 250 fitted which i understand is the same price all over the uk (im going to ask him about door stickers as that would be a deterrent as well)

enquired about this invisible cat marking (free service) - he said the dealership is aware of it and do have the marking pens. apparently they're now waiting for lexus to advise further about registration (he said theyll have an answer with the next week or so)

also enquired about recent cat thefts and how thieves are cutting the grill and disabling the alarm - he said he couldn't do anything about that or advise a solution
i guess a tilt shift alarm is out of the question then since theyll probably just disable that too lol.

said the service and MOT were due in september so they'll make sure both are done before delivery
will also add on another years warranty and road sides assistance (as the current warranty is due to expire in sept)

[1] do you guys know of a way i can check the insurance history of the number plate? i just want to double check that a cat theft hasn't already happened
[2] in your personal experience, what has been the cost of a 10k, 20k, 30k, 40k service? would that just be an intermediate and major service? (i.e just two different costs)

    thank you all!

    Joe

  9. thank you so so much for all the responses - really appreciate the advice and comments 🙂

it seems that the MPGs are really similar and its worth paying extra for hydrib/lexus
id imagine they will start hiking up the tax costs of diesels in the near future, its inevitable

im in the market for a 67 plate lexus so ill expect to pay the tax but i dont mind that since im coming from an Audi s3 which is £166 for 6 months. 'kin hell 🤔.
just turned 40 so my boy racer days are truly over now (i never want to drive a manual car again in my life haha)
    - ill look into the insurance costs for the CT200 today but id imagine they may be a little higher than normal because of the recent CAT thefts?

the CAT thefts have gone up around my areas (just like everywhere else in the UK) but im going to make sure that i get the CATLOCK installed from the dealer and just take the chance and hope the damn thieves bypass the car and look elsewhere.
do you guys know if lexus install an additional alarm where any sudden movement will set off an alarm? (or perhaps a hardwired Dash Cam could also be good?)
im definitely getting a flood light installed outside my house with a motion detector (perhaps one of these Ring Floodlights just as a deterrent)

also, does anyone have any links for getting the best MPGs out of these hybrids? i.e. when its best to use certain settings. ECO blah blah. types of driving that are best when using hybrids etc?
its probably best i search on youtube i guess

    thank you again
my Audi is getting picked up tomorrow so im in the market today for a lexus hybrid 🙂

  10. Hello all, hope youre all well

i just wanted to open a discussion on how close Hybrid vs Diesel MPGs are? (my main aim is to purchase a car and save as much as i can on fuel in the next few years)

in particular id like to hear from owners who've had both diesel and hybrid (ct 200h)...
are the hybrid figures THAT much better than diesel from what you've seen/owned?

i could save alot of money buying a diesel car with a similar engine and overall specs so just wanted to get some opinions from people on this forum.

of course, most hybrids have no road tax so theres an advantage there
do you think they will start to increase road tax for diesel cars in the next few years to try and phase them out ?

    thanks

    Joe

  11. Hello all, new member here

i was very close to buying a Toyota Auris last week but luckily i came across the reports of CAT theft and I've decided to stay well away from that make and model since its a known target

i understand that the CT200 is also a target but perhaps not as much so I'm considering buying one and ensuring that a CATLOCK is fitted by the main dealer before i own one

i was also thinking about rebadging the hybrid and CT200 badge. has anyone done this, would the dealership do this for me?

also @RTD and anyone who has fitted a CATLOCK,
have u noticed any extra scraping on speed bumps because of the fitting?

    thank you for your help
