Should it not be the customers (?)

As Stoke would be at the bottom & Snows of Exeter at the top from my experience.

Exeter? From my experience they would be bottom. Service department is dire. As I say, my experience but based on a lot of poor service.

I’m going on holiday to Jersey later this year. On the island they seem to have only 2 Ultra chargers. - the majority are only 7kw - I’ve booked a RX 450h Reserve car ! I’ll find out on Monday whether I have secured the booking or not.

Bob, how did you book this. I was thinking of doing it for a longish trip in September but my dealer hasn't a clue. Did you just email Lexus Reserve?

This is my personal feeling, but I feel as if this is a half baked attempt by Lexus. I fully appreciate that this is a big, heavy car, but a 200 mile range is not great in the grand scheme of things. I'm not sure about the battery chemistry, but if it's the case that you are keeping it between 20 and 80% and people are getting 200 miles out of a full charge then 160 is what you might expect.

When you have Kia, Tesla and many others claiming more miles, I'm not sure how Toyota, who were one of the first to dip their toe in the electric market with Hybrid batteries are so far behind. They haven't got anything which can do 300+ miles.

For most of my driving, yes 200 mile range would be good, but for the times we go to Southampton, we would potentially make it there, but then have to charge on the way back. Recently, we went on a cruise from Southampton. I am glad that we didn't take the EV. On the way down, we stopped at Leigh Delamere services to find their chargers were all in use. Their fast chargers were labelled as 25kw on Zap Map. There was a queue of EV waiting to use them too. On the return journey, in Membrey, the electric charge points were out of action for some unknown reason.

If you are using the M4, there a lot of chargers just off the Motorway. Bristol for example have many but  Ionity at Chippenham Pit Stop is literally 1/2 mile of the M4 and only a couple of miles or so from Leigh Delemere is usually good and I've never had to wait. Leigh Delemere eastbound only has 4 and usually full or not working but westbound has 6 or 8 and never had to wait. There are many chargers just of the motorway which are a better bet when you are on a longer trip.

John & Tickedon - I just received confirmation from Reserve that the 3 years cover does start from the purchase date. I sent this response

    Jack

Thanks for your prompt and helpful response. I think it is very unfair for Lexus to limit this to only 2 years in my case as I was one of the initial owners in May last year - and had a significant number of defects.

If Lexus insists that the package is only 2 years then presumably I still get 42 days of alternate cars.

Please let me know who I can complain to about this and by the way - I paid significantly more for my car than is available now complete with 3 years reserve.

    Regards

Bob, just spoke to my dealer who confirms I could have a car for up to 2 weeks each year. As I bought the car last June he said I need to get a move on if I want one for 2 weeks before June comes around. He said they only found out 2 weeks ago  about this scheme which I find hard to believe.

    Bob,

Holding the trip button resets whichever trip meter is selected, A or B, but doesn't reset the Miles/Kwh indicator on my car.

Go into the menu for trip information and press update. This resets it.  I always do it before a long trip to see what the car does. Also, after a trip when you switch off if you look at the centre screen it always says what your current trip is in miles/kwh irrespective of whether or not you have reset the trip meter. Doesn't stay there long though.

I contacted Lexus and made the appointment for dashcam but they told me only front cam can be installed in NX 350h and they won’t install rear one as it interferes with Dab!!? Any suggestions pls? Should I cancel the appointment and try somewhere else than Lexus?

Lexus fitted front and rear cameras to my NX450+ and I never had a problem with DAB or indeed anything else.

To bring far more woe to Lexus - The Sunday Telegraph now has the What car analysis with Lexus having the bottom 2 places for range loss in cold weather -

Bob, well it could be worse. At least second hand prices have remained stable for the last 2 weeks. Mine is still worth 40k after 9 months!. That's if you could find somebody to take it off you. My dealers says they are reluctant to take any RZ's in px at the moment.  That's confidence for you.

Thanks John. I’ll try that next time in the car. As it’s intermittent I expect Lexus requires the lane to be empty for 5 miles in front and behind you.
I would lose the will to live if I had to manually enter chargers as POI’s. I think they have lazily assumed you would go into the Link App and use that but it doesn’t contain all chargers so hopeless.

Bob the only time it worked for me was when there was nothing behind me on the motorway. Just a gimmick to me.

You don't have to manually enter chargers as POI. You just go into the menu once and say what you want- could be restaurants, petrol stations or whatever and it always displays them on the map. My map always shows icons for ev chargers wherever I am

I posted in the What Car thread a link to a comprehensive review of the RZ. In it the reviewer used 2 functions that I didn’t know existed. I can’t drive my car at the moment (minor op) so I would appreciate if someone can confirm they are available in UK spec cars.
Lane change - whilst in auto drive, he held the indicator stalk down and the car automatically changed lanes - it worked on both sides. I thought the lane change only increased the speed to filter into the lane better, not do it by itself.
Chargers - he went into the address screen in the Sat Nav and entered chargers as a destination and the Sat Nav listed them so he then selected one as a destination. Unfortunately it didn’t have any details of availability so you’ll still have to check that in say ZapMat in CarPlay.

Bob. the lane change function is available in the RZ but I've yet to get it to work satisfactory. I also had it in the NX 450+ Takumi I sold last year and that worked some of the time. The idea is you hold the indicator stalk down lightly part way and if the road is clear it moves you over. Most of the time a a message on the screen says function not available or something like that.

With regards chargers, you can add them in the map as -I think- POI and if you press  it will navigate you to it.  I had a low Battery warning come on the other day and it automatically came up with a list of chargers which it would navigate to. As you say, it didn't tell you if they are available.

More woe for Lexus - the What Car article was reported in today’s Telegraph. Lexus do say the upgrade improved things but the article is very damaging for them. The UX300e range is reported to be 100 miles less and the RZ 92 miles short in very low temps (for us in the UK). VW’s ID7 is reported to be 130 miles short.

If Lexus had sorted the update before releasing the cars they would have fared much better.

As The Telegraph is probably the paper most read by potential and actual Lexus owners I suspect that the MD of Lexus this morning has a severe dose of indigestion and long meetings with their PR advisers. Not at all good for RZ residuals.

Bob, I'm looking at the Telegraph now but I can't see the article in the car section. Can you point me in the right direction?

Forget it, I've just found it. Senior moment I'm afraid

No Lexus should be handed over to the customer with over inflated tyres. Yes they are over inflated on the RORO ship to avoid flat spots from the weeks a sea strapped down to the deck but each vehicle should go through a PDI before customer handover where these things are corrected.

Every new Lexus I have bought has had the tyres overinflated on pick up.  The RZ pressures should be 2.6 bar front and 2.4 bar rear. At the handover I checked and they were 2.9 bar all round.  I mentioned this and they took it to the workshop to adjust and they came back at 2.7 bar all round which they say is the manufacturers spec. It's not so I gave up and adjusted myself as I always do after pick up.  As for things being checked at the PDI, well that's a story for another day!

I agree if you can get a great deal, it's worth going for it. The prices for nearly new, very low mileage (perhaps pre-reg) RZ's at some dealers seem very good. Some brokers are discounting the UXe by around 30% but am not sure if that level of discounting applies to the RZ. Bob is right that Lexus are in a difficult place with EV sales- I'd imagine there will be bigger incentives as the year progresses. Perhaps the rumoured reduction in the VAT rate to 10% on new EV's in next weeks Budget will help to increase demand.

I would be amazed if they lower the VAT rate to 10% on new ev's but you never know.

I’m glad you are happier with the range since the update but is it enough? It’s a shame all the reviews are before the update as this will have an impact on sales.  I love ev’s, quieter, less maintenance costs, etc, but there still isn’t the ev following in the UK that is needed as most drivers unless business drivers are reluctant to change. The residual values are poor because unlike us, no one wants to buy one. This will change over time I’m sure, but I feel I can’t go back to an ICE car now I’ve driven  electric for 4 years, as that is a step backwards. The Lexus RZ is a lovely good spec car, other premium brands have a lot to compete with. Will I buy one? Hmmmmm, not sure?

If you can get one with a huge discount it's a no brainer. But do not pay list price or anywhere near that.

Is this your first ev and are you pleased overall with your Lexus?

Yes, first ev. Am I pleased with my Lexus?. Short answer is no for many reasons I won't go into here but my previous posts highlight some of the issues. Suffice to say  Lexus should never have put this car on sale with the numerous issues it has had. The software update has made a significant improvement which they could have done last April and would probably have made a difference to my view.

You will probably find that a large percentage of the council tax levy is used towards funding their gold plated defined benefit pension schemes.

This is one area of spend breakdown that they never provide. These schemes are so costly to keep funded that they were closed by private businesses many years ago.

You are so right Paul. I've just had my council tax bill for the new year and they have put a £30 levy to help fund their gold plated pensions. Yet my private pension was reduced after a certain Mr Brown withdrew dividend tax credit all those years ago which finished off DB pension in the private sector years ago.

I know this is not the place for this type of conversation but it annoys me that I have to fund a gold plated public sector pension out of my reduced private sector pension.

Rant over and mods feel free to delete my post if you think it is inappropriate.

  16. Did a 100 mile trip from Bristol yesterday mainly motorway at a steady 60mph. 8 deg temperature and raining most of the way so wipers, ac and lights on.  Worked out at 2.9miles/kwh which I thought was good for this car in these conditions. On a previous trip from the Reading area a couple of weeks before in better conditions again mostly motorway I got 3.2miles/kwh.

Since the update I have also been getting up to 3.5miles/kwh from local driving which I got nowhere near before so overall pleased with the update which has made a significant difference.

If anyone has an issue with the catch on the charging port lid being temperamental it is apparently a known issue and there is a replacement part to fix the issue, mine is due to get this fitted next week along with my spare key, the software update and locking wheel nuts.

I have always had to press mine in the middle to get it to close and sometimes it takes a couple of goes. Didn't realise it was a known issue so your dealer is obviously better than mine as they told me it was normal. I'll mention it again when I go in. Surprised you are getting the locking wheel nuts so quick. Mine are not available yet and I've had the car since last June. Just another thing to mention to the dealer

  18. 19 minutes ago, ColinBarber said:

It isn't - it's a rushed compliance car that is woefully uncompetitive. Even The Car Care Nut on YouTube, who couldn't be anymore pro Toyota/Lexus, said it wasn't a good car.

Thanks Colin for rubbing it in!

I'm told by Lexus CS that the imminent software update will "significantly improve the range and useability of the car".  I hope they are right because this long term Lexus owner is very annoyed with Lexus for releasing this car  for sale without the updates they have had in the pipeline since last April.

John. My average is 2.9 miles / kw over 6k with about 60% at 70+ on dual carriageways and some air on / heat

    IMG_1591.jpeg

Bob,  I wish I could get anywhere near that.  We went to Tesco this morning 9 miles away in 30/40mph roads. No aircon but heated seat/radiant heater on and in eco mode. Got 2.4miles/kwh. The dealer says this is normal. I think I will get him to look at this forum again then perhaps he might take me seriously.
