John. My average is 2.9 miles / kw over 6k with about 60% at 70+ on dual carriageways and some air on / heat

Bob,  I wish I could get anywhere near that.  We went to Tesco this morning 9 miles away in 30/40mph roads. No aircon but heated seat/radiant heater on and in eco mode. Got 2.4miles/kwh. The dealer says this is normal. I think I will get him to look at this forum again then perhaps he might take me seriously.

    The premium plus.....

At the moment I have only done short journeys.

Yours should do slightly better milage than the Takumi I have. At the moment on roughly 10 mile local trips at 30/40mph I am getting 2.2miles/kwh which implies a range of about 140 miles. Last week I did a 120mile round trip mostly on motorway and A roads at 60mph and I got 2.4miles/kwh which implies a range of around 154 miles which is not brilliant

During the very cold spell and a fair bit of dual carriageway driving mine is showing about 195 to 200. Screen shot - 186 at 95% so about 196 at 100%. The miles driven was 10 so again 196. The temperature drop effects all EV’s - some by as much as 35%

That's interesting Bob. I've never seen a range of 200 miles on mine fully charged even in the the summer months.

As you are in Greater London, perhaps you can take some solace from the fact that it is electric with a poor range and charging speed so may be less likely to be stolen.

That's probably one of the best reasons I've seen for a buying a 300e. That started my day off with a laugh!

I had to have a replacement AC charging module fitted - had to use public DC chargers for 6 weeks. It may be a coincidence, but I seem to be experiencing better range than everyone else. Perhaps the temps are not so low in North Essex.
I haven’t changed my driving - a lot of 70mph dual carriageway and about 50mph rural roads. A week after my collection in May, my range was 220 / 180.  I use the auto radiant heaters with +2 / heated seats & wheel with occasional 27c heat for defogging and am getting about 190 which for 64kw usable is 2.9. Today for instance on only local roads I did 19 miles and the car is at 91% so about 3.3 kw / mile.

As I had to use public chargers for 6 weeks (in the summer) I kept a record of charging - Lexus paid me £ 250 for the excess cost over home charging. I regularly used MER & Osprey 150kw chargers and did get around 140kw until about 40%. At Rugby services 150kw it took 30 mins for 20% to about 80% which is about right. I haven’t used high speed chargers in low temperatures yet.

Bob, getting 3.3miles/kwh for 19 miles on local roads is brilliant.  I'm currently getting 2.6miles/kwh for similar local driving.

The Toyota bZ got a software update to improve range (unlocked some of the buffer and improved charging curve), has the RZ still not received that

The RZ update has now been delayed indefinitely because of problems installing on existing cars although new builds have it as standard. This from Lexus cs before Christmas and they are waiting for Japan to come up with a solution

I have always had such great customer service from Lexus which is one of the key reasons that I stuck with them for this car, I'll be interested to see what happens when it goes in for a check and investigation in to the dropping range and slow charging.

Charger technology might be significant as well, seeing as the Tesla supercharger was much faster than the others which were BP Pulse chargers

The dropping range is just a fact of life with ev's in the winter. I'm currently showing 180ish miles on a full charge. Of more importance to me is dc charging speed when on a trip and the fact you can never get anywhere near the speed they claim.  A peak of 68kwh for 10 minutes before tailing off  to around 10kwh is not acceptable. I have reported this from day one and although I agree Lexus used to have exemplary customer service, on this car they have failed miserably and still have no answers. Let me know what they tell you about the slow charging when you take it in.

Has anyone on here seen the range on a full charge keep dropping, I picked mine up at the end of November and on a full charge with the fan on the range was only 182 a month later and I was greeted with a range of 152 after a full charge, the ambient temperature is similar to when I collected it.

Also, had very poor charging rates using 150Kwh chargers on Christmas day, at about 55% and after 68 miles started at 30 KWh and dropped off from there, 20.7 KWh took 39 minutes, a second charge was after 25 miles from cold and the battery was about 30%, started at 70 KWh and seemed to drop off quite quickly to around 30 KWh at 80%, 29.78 KWh in 35.5 minutes, last charge was on a Tesla 250 KWh charger about 100 miles on from the previous charge, started at 107 KWh but again seemed to drop of quite quickly but did manage to push 37 KWh in a little over half an hour (wish there were more public superchargers available)

The car is booked in for a check, but I was wondering if this is similar to other RZ owners experiences?

Love everything else about the car but this is a major let down!

All I can say is welcome to the club. I have had charging issues from day 1.  The fastest charge I have ever seen on my car with a low Battery was 68kw which tailed off after 30 minutes to a pathetic 10kw making long journeys a nightmare. I won't go into all the details but suffice to say the dealer and Lexus CS are useless and after 6 months I have no firm answers. Good luck, you will need it

Hello, is there any chance to tell us how much is the range now with the cold weather?

    Many thanks

Well I was going to wait until Monday to do  a report but I'm currently in the middle of a 500 mile round trip to see relatives. On the way down on Friday in roughly -3 temperature I recorded a very impressive 3.9 miles/kwh at a steady 65Mph.

Seriously though, I hired a Tesla model 3 from Hertz at a reasonable £300 for the weekend as I knew the RZ wouldn't have made it without multiply stops and very slow charging speeds. I will report back on Monday. Off to lunch now and a couple of tinctures!

John, how long have you had the car?
I’ve had mine for 2 months so I suspect it will be many more months before I get my second key.
while we’re on this topic, what would happen if one loses the only key? This happened to me last week. Misplaced the key in the morning (found it again later in the day). Contacted my Lexus dealer for advice.
The reply - I have to get the car on a flat bed transporter to the dealer, they will have to remove most of the dashboard to get at the CPU unit and replace two components and reprogram a new key. No discussion of who will pay for this (as the key was found later).

Hi Steve, I've had the car since June. With regards to losing your key, I was told by Lexus CS early on that they would fully reimburse anyone who lost their key including  expenses in getting the car back to the dealer. You would obviously have to pay for the lost key as normal. Also with the locking wheel nuts they told me they would pay for the replacement of all wheels if they should be stolen, again including expenses.

  11. Just had a letter from Lexus CS saying "Good news" you can now order your second key. They then go on to emphasise that they are going to supply this key to me" free of charge" as part of their customer service. Better still, when I've driven the 100 or so miles at my expense to collect the key they will also programme it for me "free of charge". How kind of them.

Don't these people realise I have already paid for the key when I bought the car?

John, I am truly shocked to read your post. I never thought I would read a post like yours, about any Lexus car… I will also be careful what I write… I was very lucky to ask for my £5,000 back in December 2022. I asked for it back because of personal reasons… I thought the new RZ would be another great Lexus.

I think that all owners of the new RZ have been shafted by Lexus and their Lexus dealers. To see that there are 58 RZ’s on Autotrader is astonishing. It is difficult to read some of the many posts on the Forum about the RZ.

The two LS 400’s that I had were the best cars I have ever had, and I have had several cars… The two LC 500’s were also great cars…

My son when he was home, would always clean my LS 400’s because I would regularly drive them down into my quarries, and they were very dirty…!

Kevin. You are not as shocked as me to have to write what I do.   As a long term lover of Lexus cars I should not have to write such negative comments. The sad thing is I have never complained about any Lexus before and if they won't listen to people like me it proves they don't care. There will be no more Lexus cars for me when I eventually get rid of this and they have lost my business for good. I doubt it will concern them.

that's interesting as I thought software was the same as the one in the new RX and NX.

Can you please be more specific?

Can I be more specific? Where do I start. Firstly when you are charging the RX doesn't show you the % state of charge which is infuriating when I charge at at home. The NX 450+ I had showed you the state of charge in the app. The RZ does not because it takes about 2 hours to update. Every other ev gives you basic information such as how much the ac consumes or how much regen you have generated. The RZ does not. In all other cars if you put a destination in the satnav that is greater than the range it recommends charging stops. Guess what, the RZ doesn't. The software the BZ4 had to address some the issues was done months ago but the Lexus updates is some months away. That's just the software and I haven't mentioned all the other problems affecting the car. I could go on but the bottom line is that the dealer and Lexus CS couldn't care less. It's so infuriating when you spend so much money on a Lexus. If I really told you what I thought about this car I would be banned from the forum. So let's leave it there.

There is a big difference in the interior quality  - and overall quality - though

There is a big difference with the interior quality and the Lexus. But this pales into insignificance when you consider  the usability of the Tesla compared with the RZ. The RZ is poor not only the range but the software which is rubbish. A much cheaper MG has far better software and range than the Lexus. The premium cars which Lexus should compete with are miles better. Lexus have messed up big time with this car and long time Lexus owners like me have been shafted big time.

  15. Talking about range, I've just come back from a very early 80 mile round trip. All 30 and 40mph A roads. Very little traffic and 8 deg c outside temperature. I had to have the fan on because of steaming up. Average speed was 36mph  and total average  of 2.4miles/kwh. Gawd knows what it would be on a motorway but not impressed. Was expecting better.

Incidentally I saw a UK range test last night on You Tube and the guy covered 140 miles miles at an average speed of 60mph and 3miles/kwh. More importantly though, he said the useable Battery capacity was 67kwh but he didn't know whether it had a software update because it was a dealer demo car. Could be wrong I suspect

Actually , I was surprised to learn when I looked into it that 3rd party cover is often little different in terms of cost to Comprehensive. There was a reasoning behind this ,but I cannot recall it at this moment.

I hope something can be done for EV drivers afterall most of this transitional stuff is happening because govts want it to so drivers who are actually getting behind that should not expect to find themselves isolated and bearing the unforseen costs of that transition.

To be fair, when I moved from the NX 450+ to  the RZ in June, my insurer -Saga- only charged me something like £100 extra from what I was paying albeit with a bigger excess. I accept this may be because I'm an old git and it might change at renewal but I do think there is a lot of scaremongering out there. The Telegraph in particular run scare stories every day the latest being that EV's are bursting into flames every day and not forgetting the multi story car parks collapsing.  A relative of mine living in Ascot just changed his Range Rover for a Merc EQ something and he is paying an extra £300.

It, and the Toyota equivalent, are compliance cars that were rushed to market with minimal development costs to meet regulations. Other than poor range and efficiency there is a lot to like for people who generally like Lexus vehicles (other than maybe the fallacy that anyone that wants an EV must be a vegan and therefore leather cannot be an option).

The vehicle’s bad reviews, but more importantly what seems to be a war on EVs by the media, will mean resale values suffer (not that Lexus vehicles are industry leading in that area anyway).

The bad reviews are down to the fact it is a bad car. You need to own one to understand the many problems and with no assistance from the dealer as they haven't a clue on how to fix basic problems. And as a long term Lexus buyer and fan, i'm not happy saying that but it's true. If Lexus UK would acknowledge there is a problem that would be a start. But they won't

If it wasn't for the range, would you still consider it a lemon?

Yes. Too many issues which need resolving. The dealers haven't' a clue and when you contact Lexus UK they refer you to the dealer. Worst Lexus I have ever owned and they should not have launched this car with so many basic problems. As for the app.. well it's rubbish as we all know

  19. 1 minute ago, PaulWhitt20 said:

Not often that I defend @ganzoom but there is a lot of hatred towards EVs on this forum of late.

I get it, some people like the sound of a V8, some need to drive 300 miles in one go and can’t charge at home, and some people find the ease of driving an EV and not having to fill up with fuel an advantage. It’s great we are all different. 🙃

It's not hatred. It's just a fact that we expect much  better from Lexus. As a long term Lexus owner, I expect better. This car is a lemon and I expect much better from Lexus and they have really let down long term customers big time. They have got this car so wrong and as a long time supporter of Lexus it leave's a poor taste and I am now finished with Lexus for good.
