  1. I dont think they can order complete seat.... seat consists of 100 different parts they would have to order, so i really dont see an problem with them ordering "only foam and covers".
  2. probably bad wiring for the hood switch, should not be an issue. 2 things to note: - alarm will sound only for 30 secs, and you should be able to turn in off via unlocking the car, even during drive (depending on the car). - Lexus alarms are not tied in with immobilizer. So your car wont shut off. I would go to Lexus dealer for sorting out right away. They might need to replace the unit or not.
  3. it can get dirty but it wont scratch... There is already something protective on it.... toyota and lexus have been using touch screens for loooong time now. We sell loads of Land Cruisers with them and nobody has had any issues with them for a long time now...
  4. i noticed longer work-in on all all-aluminium engines on Toyota's. Didnt notice that before on iron or part aluminium engines...
  5. IS should get 5 stars easily, results should be up in next testing phase...
  6. i reckon that when you get it worked out and pass some 2,000-10,000 miles at least, 6th will be more comfortable. I think they did the gearing on purpose - so you would not be at turbo spooling at its greatest. Whole problem with being in 2,000-2,600 range is that your turbo loves it, and spends oil like crazy. This is why engine is so quick when you press it... It is powerful engine and it certainly will spend more oil than weaker engines... A lot of people might have preffered 2.2 d4d 150hp engines but it really isnt an lexus anymore... It is more like an Audi. And Lexus is trying to say that there is the difference... They dont even have 4cly petrols at all, unlike their German competition.
  7. actually 150hp engine in Avensis and 177hp in IS220d are very different engines. Pretty much everything is different - from compression, turbine, injectors, glow plugs, common rail system, cat system, pretty much everything as I said. 177hp in Avensis, Corolla Verso, Rav4 and IS220d are the same engines. It is most advanced 4cly engine on the market today (3rd gen common rail). the turbo will only be full boost it you have the throttle wide open. The IS220D and the Avensis 2.2D use the same engine, a 2.2l D4D. Has anybody been on TOC, do the Avensis 2.2 owners also get poor mpg? I was told by lexus that the engine in the IS220d is not the same as the one in the Avensis, but a completley new engine design for the lexus, made of aluminium. If you look at the figures the BHP, Torque and fuel ecconemy is a lot better on the IS220D That is true, if you are comparing it to 2.0 D4D in Avensis, which is iron block engine, very much different from 2.2 d4d engines...
  8. what do you expect? I reckon that change to 3.5 engine is huge actually, from 3.0. Few improved specs, as in better nav and mp3 player. It is actually more than you usually get from Lexus on 3rd year facelift...
  9. i....told....you....so....! :D In town mileage will improve with during summer as well....
  10. kind of interesting, I thought of you guys complaining about ratles after I read Autobild report in germany, where BMW drivers complained a lot about interior rattles (statistically more than Toyota/Lexus) :-).
  11. there is probably some info on some gov site about how they calculate mileage. I think main difference is that speed that they are going at are lower than normal speeds on highway... Tests have to be done in exactly same conditions for every car, so they probably do it somewhere specific, then average results based on weather conditions. Tests are mandated so they can be repeated, and 10 out of 10 times, they have to show same results...
  12. yeah, it all depends on what you are used to. Did you know that 2.2d4d with 177hp is actually quieter than 136hp version?
  13. but again, its goverment mandated test. its not lexus doing anything. They are not inventing anything. they have to put whatever they did on the test.
  14. but what are they supposed to tell you? car is working fine, there is nothing to fix there... If you came to my service center, I would tell you to drive in higher gear. As long as fuel isnt leaking, there is absolutly nothing that dealer can do. They can not do any modifications or anything similar... They could replace the ECU but it is not malfunctioning :-).
  15. kind of interesting, I went over to Swiss lexus forums, and ppl there are getting averages above 41 MPG, with long trips on two lanes at 50 MPG, which is what I would expect from consumption in Toyota's that I know.
  16. you see, it works. You like her so much, you already started making excuses for her :-).
  17. didnt I say that you should NOT be annoyed ahead of the time? :-).
  18. it really all depends on the driver, with Avensis D4D engine I got >70 mpg on country roads/light hills. This was driving 50-60mph, in maximum gear. In town, same car, driving it like an gas engine (2nd gear mostly), I got 33mpg during summer :-). Not driving particulary fast, just always in lower gear.
  19. Let's get this back into perspective... The Diesel's inability to get the stated MPG is what started this thread rolling...the Petrol appears to exceed this in many cases...the Diesel simply struggles...that's the issue so far... Even on the motorway, cruising at a tall 6th, the diesel only just exceeds the government/Lexus quoted "urban" mpg figure of 36mpg (or not in some cases). The "Extra Urban" for the diesel is 52mpg...so if we were talking highway type motoring, then that ought to be achievable to get anywhere near 44 mpg as stated in the "combined"...follow my drift? There is a suggestion that the car may have "AI" and as the mileage increases the MPG improves due to ECU/MU programming (and Let's face it the dealers are saying that you should wait until the car get's to 4000ish miles...)...could be true...but that ought to be communicated properly! The problem is that if we have been sold a pup, then we've gone past the 28 days no doubt by the time the car's at 4000 miles to tell them to stick the car!! I don't particularly care if the diesel can hit 44 or 38, but the claims don't stack up...and you expect to be told facts. Whilst typing this, spoke to the dealer. My salesman gets....wait for it....38mpg overall....over 43 on the motorway...! At the end of all of this, I did not expect these question marks given all of that fuss about Lexus Cust Satisfaction being numero uno... I'm totally baffled what all the fuss about that is based on...maybe I'm expecting too much, and the fact that Lexus have still not said anything about the rattling problems (my dealers still maintains they know nothing) shows they have a "lets keep quiet and wait for it to blow away" type attitude... Oh, where oh where have I experienced that before: Peugeot Audi BMW Mercedes Ford Vuaxhall ....! you still dont get it. Mileage issued by Lexus is based on standardised LAB-like tests, which can be repeated every single time they are done. Lexus does not issue their "own" numbers, nor they can, legally. What they issue is cold facts based on standardized tests required by law. For example, extra urban is probably tested at some 35-40 mph, not at highway speeds. Clearly Toyota should have put 150hp D4D in IS220d instead of 177hp version, and probably get some 10%-15% better consumption, which is what their buyers expect instead of performance. Although, interestingly enough, I have read enough comparos of the same engine in Corolla Verso where it got only slightly worse mileage than competitors which had 20-30hp less, and were some 2 sec slower 60-80mph. So I still think it is comparing apples to oranges. As to the rattles issues, thats something else. If your dealer knows nothing it means they didnt have anyone come back and complain about it. You wont see any TSB's for Lexus for at least several months since that is how long it takes for complaints to reach the Lexus, get investigated and fixed, if this has not been fixed already and only first production cars had it. USA owners are not complaining about any rattles...
  20. yep, 2nd-3rd around city is simply bad mpg...At 2,000 rpm, your turbo is at full boost, so yes, you will spend more fuel then. maybe its time for some Avensis D4D transplant? :-).
  21. what gear are you driving in city? it makes world of difference. I always used to drive diesels as if they were petrols - in 2nd or 3rd in the city, and my friend gets a lot better mpg in the city by simply driving 2 gears higher than me...
  22. p.s. another thing i noticed is that IS250 drivers always quoting their one cool trip highway mileage. Now, with new direct injection engines and awesome 6 speed AT, cruising in IS250 should be quite nice mpg wise. But what happens in city? Or on average? I find it hard to believe everyone drives strictly on highways. It is all about comparing apples and apples.
