Sold the Lexus !
Steven9233 replied to Steven9233's topic in Lexus IS 250 / Lexus IS 250C Club / Lexus IS 220D & IS 200D Club
For note I gave the car away due to lack of time , they currently have it for sale on their website to quote “ the best example in UK “ quite a big mark up they have put on it . Could have sold it to multiple people at work but then I’d have to see it all the time when back which would likely induce much regret 🙁. -
New assignment with work which is sudden and unexpected , I will be away for months , just couldn’t justify leaving my beloved is250 sitting in garage , I did consider storage and keeping hold of it but just didn’t make sense , the car is now 12 years old and as great as it is time to move on , someone is going to get a wonderful buy ! Sold to trade for speed and no fuss . I’ll keep a keen eye on forum. ,plan is to buy another Lexus end of year. If I can find a low mileage super mint newer shape 250 then that will suit , or it may have to be another brand sadly , as I just do not want a CVT box or a hybrid , not for as long as I can avoid doing so. thank you for all the advice .

I replaced the suspect bearing , and test drove to see if that fixed the issue which it did . I ordered two , thus I now have a spare in case the other one fails. Wasn’t in the mood to do the other side when in reality it’s probably just fine

Fitted the new drivers side wheel bearing today , I refrained from making a step by step , many YouTube vids from better DIY mechanics than me hence how I knew how to do it , made a quick vid of findings . Getting old one of is not easy let me tell you , had to beat the hell out of it 4DAA6626-F275-4EF9-89BD-E870AE2C5B07.mov

Just seen this ! I’ve got exact same issue as posted separately , two new wheel bearings on order for fronts . Have no time at all so can’t do this job for weeks yet , but I’m very much hoping this fixes the noise . Never had a wheel bearing fail before and quite surprised at sub 60k . I’m convinced the bigger wheels play a part in premature failure can’t explain that logic but I know it affected older Hondas with larger wheel upgrades . Reassuring to read this

Thank you spock66 , well I’ll fit the two front to be safe in next couple weeks when I get a chance . Just hope it’s the front , the back ones look far more of a pain to fit . but hey ho , if not it’s not mega money wasted just annoying . I’ll be sure to post my findings thanks again all

Jacked car up , spun every single wheel , no noise detected at all ! Maybe as it’s not under load ? I’m still thinking must be wheel bearing , would anyone agree likely front as when steering round left shallow bend the noise gets worse ? I’ve looked at everything underneath all looks good no play in wheels either .

Ahh good shout

Just spent half hour trolling YouTube whilst kids in ball pit zone “living the dream” I’m going to order a set of front hub bearings , I quite enjoy working on car if its relatively Simple which it looks to be replacing front bearings . I will post results with any significant findings . Won’t get round to this for a couple of weeks yet . Just hope if it is bearings it’s the front not back ! My basic logic is suggesting the fronts are under more stress due to steering forces , so I’m assuming it will be less likely to be rears . I have a memory of the 4th and 5th gen Honda preludes both of which I owned back in the day suffered from premature wheel bearing failures if fitted with the bigger wheel sizes ! Mine were fine , but as stated my Lexus has the bigger wheels I wonder if this has contributed to worn bearings at 56k ? Assuming that’s what it is - we will see .

I have a strange issue with my IS250 which I wonder if anyone has an opinion on . on smooth quiet road surfaces I can hear a thumping type droning sound “I think from front “ I’ve noticed it before but only on very smooth good quality roads allowing the noise to become detectable . It has now definitely got worse . It is in relation to speed so the faster I go as does the sound best way I can describe it is as mmm mmm mmm as wheels rotate , I completed an experiment today and found that on slight turning left round corners the sound gets worse ! And when turning slight right round a bend the sound disappears ! The sound is not detectable at slow speed , the tyres are literally only a couple of months old on all four corners and are a high quality brand, and this noise was present before the new tyres ! The brakes are perfect tracking and alignment is perfect , car is meticulously maintained and is on 56k. It does have the 18” Lexus wheels - I’m thinking wheel hub bearings ? But at 56k ?? This wouldn’t make sense to me , had 9 Hondas over the years never had a bulb let alone bearings . suspension is all good no play in anything which is why I can only think front wheel bearings ? Any thoughts much appreciated before I order them. what else could it be ! Thanks in advance

I had a black accord , looked lovely for 3.5 minutes then all I could see was dust and dirt . Otherwise yes I like black when clean looks class , my boss has a RX450 in a lovely high gloss met black looks great - in my humble opinion though the is250 looks pretty dull and taxi like in black unless it is a F sport or something , remember KITT ? From knightrider ! Or are you too young ?cant imagine that car in anything other than black ! I see a Lexus is250 near to where I live in very pale green metallic colour older one ! Looks absolutely hideous I’d have to use a balaclava if I had to drive it , but each to their own . I’d have bought mine in / silver / red / blue or black at a push but not green even if it was free not green .

I’d love a LS , bet it’s super smooth . if it’s professionally done the foot well lighting would look great , I’m not surprised it’s £500 , just that line round centre I’ve done took a bloody age ! They are so well put together virtually zero gaps to install back of light fitting, had to prise it bit by bit luckily didn’t break anything

My nipper bought me an ambient light LED strip set for my birthday assuming I have the same taste as he does as a 22 year old , initially I thought “no way “ am I putting this in my car , came with multiple strips to fit all over the place . I used one around the centre console , I am pleasantly surprised how nice it looks and somehow modernised the cabin , not as bright in real time as photos suggest due to camera picking up light I guess . Any opinions ? Or have I ruined it ? .powered by USB that is near bonnet release fitted by previous owner for something he was using so easy to hide power wires . It looks almost standard and offers rear passengers some ambient in the footwell as installed around bottom of centre arm rest

Hi all , anyone know the function of this button ? I can’t find any decent reference to it I’m manual I’ve checked YouTube , I know it blasts air at face out of main vents but unusual for a button specific for that ! Also don’t understand the picture gram in that case as can be set on sat nav screen to face . Thanks in advance . Maybe it’s just that a face blaster !

In the rain you can see it looks normal burgundy compared to the photos I’ve uploaded in the sun , I need to sort my double garage out which has been robbed off me so I can get the car in with nothing else “just the car “ , currently full of kids junk and bikes etc . Need to invest in a decent sized shed shame not to use the garage for what it’s intended for . Get it out of this crap weather we are seeing down here at least

Good morning , the headlights on my car are standard DRL and HID’s due the fact it’s a facelift run out model I believe they are on all 2012 model year . The rears are Vland , the standard ones are nice and I was perfectly happy with them , but then I spotted another is250 with the Vlands on the rear and had to have them . Takes a bit of time to adjust to get a flawless fit but essentially they are plug and play . I sold my old pair (face lift type ) for nearly as much as the Vlands cost so I was quite happy . There are two types I think , mine are red version just a slight tint , full black tint are also available but they look a little too aftermarket and Halfords like for me (just my opinion ) although on a black is250 they would likely look lovely or possibly on that electric blue colour they do , Funny enough when I started looking for a is250 my first preference was silver one then the grey , my car is so immaculate with low miles I had to buy it , I’ve since fallen in love with the colour and the interior contrast , the red looks pretty standard burgundy until the sun comes out and it literally sparkles to life . If you want DRL type aftermarket’s Vland do them which look very similar , but no idea how good they actually are are for light output as they are LED type . No point having them coz they look nice if you can’t see where you’re going ! Others on here are bound to have them. much as I love the car , I literally drive it once a week (for pleasure ) for a decent run as my commute is now by bike . To be honest I can barely justify having a car myself as the wife’s work horse is used for everything . It’s now on 52k be lucky if it sees 56 by spring . Really I should be driving a Honda jazz or something hideous although reliable as that . Take care

Off to a wedding today , thought I’d give the car quick wash ! Nipper recommended autoglym aqua wax , spray on when wet after wash and dry with micro fibre - fantastic product ! Looks like spent all day on it , in actual fact not 15 mins , quick wash sprayed on and dry . Totally recommend this product . If you haven’t tried it go get some .

So , my wife’s Vauxhall zafira died two weeks ago , after £1000 spent chasing an electrical fault which couldn’t be resolved I drew the line and purchased another car for her . In those two weeks I borrowed my dads brand new Volvo V60 T5 as we needed a boot for a planned camping trip with kids / dogs . two weeks in the Volvo , a rapid top end 50k estate which is impressive in every way , with every gadget known to man , but here’s the thing Got back in my Lexus last night , and felt like coming home , just feels so much better in finesse terms , material quality , the silk of the V6 rather than a highly eager highly stressed turbo engine . 12 years old and for me my is250 still has the edge even over a brand new top spec Volvo which is also a quality product albeit not as solid as they were 10 years back like the XC70 i owned . thought I’d share this , again proof they just don’t build them the same now , all light weight , cheaper build in comparison
