  1. As my RX had this problem and I managed to fix it, thanks to this thread, I thought it useful to add my experience to the mix. A few months back, as the cold weather set in I had the typical total shutdown of rear door latch switch, tailgate lift motor & interior lights. No battery recharging or resetting would fix it, I waited for warmer weather for it to start working again but no luck. Got lucky and sourced a well priced new OEM motor off FB marketplace, saw the pretty basic YT vid of the american guy fitting it, which gave me confidence it was doable. Having done the job successfully (I will admit I punched the air when the motor kicked in) my tips are these: You need to be confident at popping the interior panels out, perhaps buy a plastic crowbar kit as there are places where metal/glass damage is possible if using screwdrivers etc. You will need a decent 3/8 or half inch socket set (bolts are 10mm but need plenty of leverage) preferably with knuckle and short extensions. When fitting the new motor you should probably use lots of thread lock, some tinkering will be needed to get the bracket holes to line up. Fit all the bolts quite loose at first and then tighten once they're all in position. Whole job took around 90 minutes. If you can do stuff like fit kitchen cabinets or do decent level DiY you can definitely do this job and save yourself a bomb at a Lexus dealer.
  2. Also Debs, if you havent already, you may want to check in the glove box for the manual on off switch that controls the powered boot operation, as mentioned in another post, this can get unknowingly knocked and cause some bafflement.
  3. Deborah, I'd say you might do well to find a good mobile mechanic prepared to take on removing your suspension strut and you sending it to Brian at Orchard engineering for bearing repair, then them refitting it when its back. The powered boot is more complex - may needs diagnostics or perhaps just a new fuse? Finding a clever mobile mechanic, may save you some hassle. good luck
  4. Just reactivating this post as Cat thefts are still common place in my area of South West London. Has anyone had the Cat from a Series 3 or 4 RX450h stolen recently? So far, having owned since May, my RX450 has been left alone despite being easy prey. I'm hoping the low amount of value in the secondary Cat makes it an uneconomical use of the thieves "effort". I'm not interested in fitting a noisy vibrating Catlock as seems self defeating. Just worried I should be worrying...🤨
  5. Bought my SE-L with Air suspension in May, I also found the ride crashier and more choppy on uneven road surfaces than I had expected. It was on new but cheapo tyres and a switch to Goodyear Efficient Grip tyres has helped but its not as smooth as a high end saloon based cruiser would be. never will be. I agree with the poster that said all heavy SUVs compromise in this area due to top heavy bias. I've driven many and perhaps only the Range Rover and the Merc GLE are noticeably better, but not by much, not driven an X5 lately but I expect that is too. The Jag F-Pace is especially awful and noisy as hell. Love the Lexus though, many other great qualities.
  6. Hi, I'm also new to the RX and while I love the car, initially I found the ride more harsh on uneven or poorly finished surfaces than I expected, even with air suspension fitted. My 2010 model came with a set of newish but cheapo off brand tyres (RoadX)which I blamed for the crashy ride. Lots of research later, spent about £600 on 4 Goodyear Efficient Grips as they are reviewed as having a good mix of low noise and high wet grip. It was worth it, they are much better but not a magic cure, its just the character of the car. Superbly quiet and smooth on good roads, not quite so happy on the choppy crazy paved tarmac that is the norm in UK commuter/urban areas.
