Replacement struts arrived from SGS this morning.  They're about 18mm shorted than the originals but I'd don't expect that to be a problem once fitted.

Won't get to the job for a good few days as I've done in my back and the forecast's for rain for the rest of the week.  :wallbash:

Good choice, I changed mine with SGS ones earlier this year - excellent quality, I expect they will last the car out.

Hope your back is better soon, theres nowt worse.

So , had the car a year now , and I can honestly say I can’t think of a car I’d rather have , other than a LC500 or a new shape IS but sadly the IS  all seem to be hybrid which I just don’t want . She still looks good and gets comments more than any other car I’ve owned !! Maybe down to the colour I don’t know . But year in and still feels special IMG_6547.thumb.png.3966a0e4307cfe0dac42f7209723b887.pngIMG_6546.thumb.png.8a8b20aa82035300c91b6ef38075b0d7.pngIMG_4100.thumb.png.1af96f82a657457fac8cb5b53b9a1b63.png

Good to see my old car is going well and even better to see it on JayEmm’s channel. If left me in 2019 with around 24k miles on it, so hasn’t done that much since if it’s still under 30k.

Re Jay’s review I agree with most of what he says; yes the rear is a little compact, but certainly not a deal breaker. I’m 6ft and with a long torso and I never felt the head room was lacking either. I don’t remember my head being anywhere near the roof actually.  But then maybe my seating position was a little more ‘relaxed’.

I still think these are great cars and still more interesting than the equivalent M3 or C63, unless you factor in the wagon version. I had hoped to eventually get a late RCF or LC500 and stay within the Lexus marque, sadly for one reason or another it hasn’t happened. Maybe the LC opportunity will raise its head again in the near future. I can’t explain it, but the draw to return to the Lexus brand doesn’t seem to go away.

A lovely ISF Nick, a credit to you being the former keeper.

I'm 6ft too and I dont see any problem with space in the back other than the rear footwell room for my size 11 feet - It is very small when the driver / passenger seat is all the way back, I can still get in with my feet sideways though then there's no problem turning them under the seat in front. In a different review someone described the car as a coupe with rear doors - this I agree with but only for the foot space issue...the only small issue that I have found by the way.

  4. I'm with GEM Motoring Assist, Joint cover for myself and my wife on their recovery extra package for £129 a year.

Was with the AA after being hoodwinked in for a very low price ( I forget what it was initially) after the first year I ended up paying around £38 per month.

I havent had to call GEM for assistance yet so I can't comment on the service they give but its peace of mind for us. They cover cars of any age too so no problem there either.

  5. On mine I press the physical "Menu" button on the left hand side

Then on the screen press "Map DVD" (at the top right of the screen)

Then press DVD with eject symbol at the bottom left of the screen.

    Hope that helps.

Not seen the original post, but looking at this product seems like even E5 users might benefit from a drop of the juice.

    The problem with ethanol

Thanks for the info link, horrendous isnt it.

So easy to do - I like to be more exact than the two measures on the bottle (25 & 50ml) so I just pour some into a different container (empty vitamin container) and use a 25ml syringe. Decide how much fuel I need say 30 Litres and squirt 30ml into the tank then go and fill up...so it mixes better in the tank. If I put more than 30 Litres in I just add the extra few ml when I get back...how I do it anyway.

  7. I paid £4000 for my 2006 SE-L with just over 90K miles last December knowing it needed a full set of new tyres, bonnet and boot struts and some other bits and bobs that were missing - all in all it came to around £4800. I was happy to pay this and never looked back.

    Good luck with your decision

Hi , have  a few Toyotas Corollas including a 1.3 and 1.6 G6 but had my eye open for  an is200 for a while

This came across my path and went down to give it a once over after reading all the buying guides

First owner was a Gp and then an oldish guy had it , it’s test history looked decent and a full service history

It has the normal cd player issue and a few paintwork marks but after a test drive overall I liked it and did the deal

I really like the look of the car and will slowly work my way through it and get it back up to my standard

Just placed a wanted on here for a sport rear spoiler and the silver sport type sill scuff plates and auto pedal set

  9. Forgot to mention while undoing the trim along the top of the boot - all four plastic clips came away from their glued positions. Tried epoxy resin glue then double sided adhesive velcro but nothing seemed to hold up. Eventually used some thin type number plate adhesive pads...these stuck the clips to the trim solidly.

    Hope this helps someone.

    Cheers

  10. Bought my 2006 nearly six years after the original post - the wheels are flaked in part but not too bad, the wipers were oxidised below the hinges. The rear leather headrests have become harder especially the middle one which is brittle and has cracked on top (where they face direct sunlight). No body rust showing, not sure about the underside of the car or if the exhaust is original, I'll probably find out more when it is next MOT'd.

Oh no no.... The last thing I want is to pass on my OCD, bet they are fine. Good to know, I had better order a pair next week.

Can only think that the OEM struts are flat at one end for added strength. If only the flat end could be unscrewed and swapped over. The boot operates lovely now.

    Cheers

They must be the Lexus ones because the Lexus garage fitted them and they were not cheap. The boot now just stays in whatever position you leave it. i.e. half way open or whatever. These struts will not lift the boot by itself.

Do you have extra weight on the boot such as a spoiler maybe....either way it sounds like something is wrong. I believe the purpose of the struts are to make it nearly effortless to lift. I'd take it back to Lexus and see what they say.

I replaced the boot struts on the isF because the boot was so heavy. I thought they had failed. The new ones make the operation just not quite as heavy, just a bit better. An expensive small improvement. Shouldn't have bothered really.

Do you remember which struts you fitted? With the SGS ones - after the boot is popped open it will lift by itself with just a nudge of a finger.

    Thanks for the pictures.

So despite being a completely different connector (the inboard flat end being round on new strut) they still clip on without modification?

Yes they clipped on fine but now you have me thinking.....I should have given them a tug at that end to see if they remained in place. I'll take off the carpet liner again tomorrow and check them for safety's sake then report back.

Yeah that sounds like yours might be on the way out. My boot is heavy but it slams shut if you don't hang onto it so they are definitely gone. I think the joints on the interior end are a little different than those under the bonnet. Anyways best of luck with the car.

Yeah I hold on to mine too when I close it, could be dangerous in strong winds I guess.

    Cheers,
