  1. I agree with Lucas, anything over £10k is more difficult. I struggled to offload a Volvo privately for around £6k previously!

Webuyanycar thinks it’s worth £8.6k before the damage to the rear bumper and interior arm rest. I would replace the interior arm rest - interior damage like that is a real no no for me. I would also try to see if you can get the bumper looking better.

As there are dealer options (albeit higher mileage) for the same price and a few hundred quid more than you car, I would say you probably want to be closer to half way between wbac and a dealer - so perhaps £9700ish?

Going to see another one on Saturday at Glasgow but with different salesperson.  Wish me luck!

I had a really good experience at Lexus Glasgow last year - had a spare afternoon so went in to see the NX. Really helpful and knowledgeable, had both a Premium and Premium Plus in their show room, so they were able to point out the exact spec and trim differences! I was clear I wasn’t at the point of buying yet but still had plenty of time for me and helped, and not at all pushy. If I could have purchased my new car from him, I would have!

Feeling hard done by at my recent insurance hike from just under £300 to over £800 I spoke to a friend of mone who has a Toyota RAV4, (2022 same as my UX) his renewal was £1950.

Lexus is now the most stolen car brand (as a percentage of cars on the road).

    https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

Toyota cars have a similar issue, and non-PHEV RAV4s are apparently vulnerable too (unlike the 2022+ NXs).

    Hi everyone

We went to look at the car which was an overall disappointing experience.  The car was dirty scuffed and not in great nick.  Ok these things can be fixed with a bit of polish however the salesman seemed to have zero interest in selling me the car.  The whole thing was very strange.  So walked away.  Still not written off Lexus however overall not a great advert for the brand.

Genuinely curious - what did the salesperson do, or not do, for you to conclude they had 'zero interest in selling me the car'?

    What Canbus thing?

Most recent Lexus cars for last several years have a canbus vulnerability- a £2k device, disguised as a Bluetooth speaker, allows thieves to unlock and start a Toyota and Lexus vehicle without any keys: https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

Lexus became the most stolen car brand in UK 2023 (as a percentage of cars on the road), with more Lexus stolen than Land Rovers…

  6. Enter the details into webuyanycar.com including any damage or issues after it gives you an initial price. Everyone else will probably be within a few hundred quid of that valuation.

if you want to sell privately, look at what dealers are looking for on Autotrader -  then price somewhere between the dealer price and webuyanycar for a private sale.

I am looking to downsize from an XC60 to an LBX, specifically the Takumi derivative. I test drove a design derivative which does not have some features of a Takumi.

    1. What do the steering wheel paddles control in a hybrid with CVT gearbox?

    2. If you are a registered user, do you still get the prompts to accept the terms of voice/multimedia, etc on start up?

    3. Can you get the car to remember the "hold" function

    4. Android Auto is wired only (v wireless CarPlay) ... WTF in car released in 2024???  But I see Toyotas now offer wireless AA and Carplay. How likely will Lexus will push a software update to "fix" this

    5. How much better is Lexus matrix headlights (AHS) v the standard LED. ( I currently have matrix headlights on my Volvo)

    6. Can you disable to beeping when you lock the car. Really why does it have to beep?

Otherwise ticks a lot if boxes for me (real world 60 mpg achievable v 30 mpg on the Volvo. Obviously not a fair comparison as the XC60 is from a class above, but I don't need a big car anymore.

    Thanks

Answering on the basis of my NX, I assume it also applies to the LBX…

    1. Paddles - fake gears. If I’m going down a steep hill, I can press the left paddle a couple of times and a number appears next to the ‘D’. This gives me engine braking so I don’t accelerate as I go down the hill (also does a great job charging the hybrid battery).

    2. No - once you’re logged in, it’ll only appear periodically: after an over the air update, if there’s a change to the t&cs etc.

    3. Sadly not as far as I’m aware.

    4. Your guess is as good as mine. Some dealers have said to users here there is an over the air update coming to add it… but I’d take that with a pinch of salt until (if) it finally does appear.

    5. The matrix lights on the NX are great ( I drive 14k miles a year, in all sorts of conditions). Obviously can’t speak to the LBX lights.

    6.  You should be able to. If you were hearing 4 beeps on locking the car, it’s a warning to check the rear seats - if you don’t open a rear door during the journey, you won’t get this. It’s basically a warning for “did you put your baby in the back seat, and then forget to take them out again?”. Dealers can change some settings on the car and key, so it may also be something they’ve enabled for their demo car.

I previously had a Volvo S60 - I would say the Lexus servicing costs are better as they don’t seem to vary as much (ie become so ridiculously expensive as some of the Volvo services were). You may find that the Lexus seats aren’t quite as comfortable though.

My partner has a Yaris, and the LBX is based on the Yaris Cross platform. I quite enjoy driving their car and I’ve found it has plenty power for the motorway (and that’s with a lower output engine in the Yaris). The LBX interior is certainly a very lovely place to be, so if you don’t need the space in the rear seats, possibly a great option!

You will never find a retail dealer, Lexus or otherwise that will match the so called retail figure from any legitimate car valuation source such as examples on the internet, Parker's Guide, Glasses Guide or Black Book, the latter two being the main source of used car values the trade use.

Not true - I’m afraid in my main Lexus dealer purchase was under it. And that was with me requiring work to be completed to bring the car up to scratch. It was also a straight purchase - no trade in - and so no ability to do anything funny to make back the margin elsewhere.

in my case, the car had been advertised for some time and the dealer clearly wanted rid. I had been looking at the models for a few weeks, and saw they’d reduced the sticker price (thousands), and I was in a couple of days later and negotiated more off (thousands). There will always be circumstances to make a deal - the key is being prepared to walk (as I was) and not being limited to local dealers (I’ve typically travelled hundreds of miles to pick up my cars). When I collected, the salesperson confirmed he was happy with the deal - so whatever it owed them, they clearly weren’t unhappy with the final result, and I remain very happy with what I paid.

You are right that the guide prices are just that - guides. It’s always about what people are prepared to buy at, and what people are prepared to sell at.

Hi folks, I have a NX350h that occasionally (est. 1 in 3) gives 3 beeps on locking the car, there are no doors or windows left open, I don't think it is linked to the 'check back seats' feature, so I'm stumped as there is nothing that I can find in the handbook regarding this.

4 beeps is the “check back seats” I think. I find that happens if a rear door has been opened during the journey, but not just before you lock the car at your final destination. Never had 3 beeps to my knowledge - sorry!

I agree...i wonder how people with SUVs manage daily driving. Everytime we go to the supermarket i see people with SUVs struggling to park between 2 cars. It always seems to be a tight fit. At times even the IS feels long and sticks out of parking spaces. For supermarket trips or around the city we always use the wifes jazz - it’s got all the features youd expect in a city car like dents, scratches, curbed wheels etc. Enough for me to not care if there is small new damage that doesnt impede its running.

A Lexus NX is actually 5mm shorter than your IS generation (4665mm). Width wise, the NX is 55mm wider (1865mm) - which is noticeable (but also the same width as a new ES). The LBX is also slightly wider than the IS (1810mm) at 1825mm wide, and much shorter at 4190mm, similarly is the UX at 4495mm.

if I had to park on the street or/and lived in inner London, there’s no way I’d have the car I do now. But I don’t, so I can little it a little large 🙂

I’m not too sure about that, I ordered mine Oct 2021, and got the price and trade in locked in, which there was no problem with, it was the £500 deposit order deal, they have also offered me a new ES prem plus for £40k with delivery in October.

The luxury car tax rules are based on the list price the day before registration and it's that list price which should be used on the form V55 by dealers - not the price you paid, or the price on the date of ordering. This has caught many people out, as list prices have increased for some cars after ordering, meaning people have ended up paying it (or cancelling vehicles).

I got mine Feb 2022 Gen2, NX 350h, AWD prem plus in black under the £40k, recently renewed the tax at £170.

Your dealer also registered it wrong then! Lucky you 🙂

Jan 2022 price list (you use the list price from day before registration) has premium plus at £47k (launch price was £45k, so still over)…

Actually the $44590 you are quoting is for the hybrid model in base trim. It's lower than that for non hybrids, they start at $42k. Also those prices include state taxes and destination charges. Let's assume destination charges are the same. Average state tax is 6%. So you need to take that off first before you multiply by the exchange rate and add our own vat. You'll come up £3.3k short to current uk prices, adding a 1.2k pounds tech package brings it in line with the premium here, and adds on top of it a heads up display, but you lose the heated steering wheel. You're still 2.1k worse off. Not bad in comparison to other manufacturers where the price difference is much higher, but worse off to when there was actual price parity on the ES.

I literally made that point. You cannot compare a 300h with a non-hybrid engine, that’s an entirely pointless comparison. The engine choice is largely dictated by environmental regulations, not wholly in control of manufacturers. There is also no sales tax included within the quoted MSRP prices on the Lexus US website, sales tax gets added on top depending on location, so I’m afraid your maths are entirely made up!

    I must be lucky somehow.
Bought new in 2020 NX300h with premium plus pack, list over £40k at £42,500. Actually paid only £37,500.
Paid my VED as you have to. Just paid VED back in February, only £170.00, the highest I've ever paid so far.
I was warned by the dealer of the "envy" tax, and was prepared for it. So far in 4 years of ownership haven't been charged the additional Posh-Payment.

It will show on the V5 if the luxury tax applies. Sounds like the dealer didn’t register it properly, probably putting sale price rather than list price on the form, so lucky you!

Depends on how you define artifically low. The pricing was in line with it's pricing in the USA (after taking the 20% VAT into account and currency exhange rates). I know shock! It's just most auto companies are sure they can keep fleecing British motorists with above market pricing across the board. So now Lexus have brought the ES in line with the other fleecing models.

    https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/business-dealership%2C-sales-and-marketing/uk-one-most-expensive-countries-buy-car-study-says

ES trim lines aren’t directly comparable UK vs US. The base ES hybrid 300h (US has non-hybrid models that are cheaper, due to lower government emissions requirements) starts at $44590 - this is less well specified than our Premium model - and works out at £42560 after VAT. £1000 less than the new UK ES starting price - if you add packages to make it equivalent, you’d be paying more in the USA.

  16. I’d sell the car with the stock wheels. Anything else would require (in theory) a modification to be disclosed to insurers, and premium possibly going up - so putting people off.

I had a set of OEM winter wheels & tyres for my previous Volvo - they sold for peanuts after several months. Thankfully I’d originally got a bargain from a dealership for them (basically the price of tyres) so didn’t feel too hard done by!

That is quite a price jump and pushes all grades of the ES into the luxury tax paying category.

The Premium Edition had been kept artificially low for more than two years , presumably to stay below the £40k luxury VED ceiling as long as possible - while nearly every other Lexus model has seen jumps of £4-5k, the ES Premium Edition only moved from £39.3k (plus cost of metallic paint) to £40k (with free paint!). The other ES trims kept increasing in line with other Lexus models - e.g. ES Takumi has gone from £52k to £57k in two years.

Sadly it seems Lexus UK has decided that’s no longer possible to maintain. So a large jump, yes, but really just catching up to where it should have been if not artificially kept low.

Hi, does anyone know if it is possible to get Navigation System-linked Display on a 2024 NX, it is mentioned in the handbook (if equipped - I have Takumi spec so was hoping I had everything) and I saw it on a YouTube video - it shows the turn by turn instructions from your Apple CarPlay navigation app on the dashboard and HUD.

On my NX, it works with apple CarPlay and apple Maps - the next turn (ie turn right) and distance will display in the driver display and HUD (possibly not if you have the minimal HUD view). It does not work with Google Maps on CarPlay - just apple Maps in my experience.

Dead right. Apparently Lexus think we don't deserve them and won't buy enough to warrant supplying them anyway.

Just my two pennysworth - there is no new Lexus vehicle that I find attractive now that the petrol IS is gone in the UK - Maybe go back to VOLVO but they re pulling out of non-EV cars as well. I will probably just have to keep my old fashioned ICE vehicles - lovely jubbly.

I’m afraid Volvo has also dropped all saloons and estates in the UK over the last few years - just SUVs and “crossovers” in their range here now!

Our CT200H is nearly 10 years old and we have owned it for the last seven years. It has never missed a beat and has now done over 130k miles. For the seven years we have owned the vehicle it has been insured with LV with no claims during that period. The insurance is due to renew in a month or so and, to my surprise, I have had a letter from LV to say that they will not be offering a renewal of the insurance as CT200s are the subject of high levels of claim due to theft. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it just LV?

Lexus cars, as a percentage of those on the road in the UK, were the most stolen cars in 2023. They have taken that “accolade” from Land Rover… and their insurance and theft problems are well known!

lots of Lexus models are at risk of a vulnerability that allows thieves to plug in a device, open your car doors, and drive off in less than 60 seconds. A bbc watchdog report finally promoted a response from Lexus earlier this month:

    https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

given Lexus themselves have only recently shared that list, it’s unsurprising insurers have taken a blanket “no Lexus” approach to underwriting.

I think, from memory, when the 2nd generation NX arrived in the UK the base model was a snip under £40k

Yes, originally NX and NX with premium pack were just under…but I’m not sure (m)any were actually delivered before the list price increased? The VED is based on the list price the day before new car registration rather than point of order. first deliveries were due January, and by April 2022, all were listed over £40k. The NX FWD also then appeared, but, quickly also moved above 40k and so unclear if any were delivered before that.

What a surprise; call from dealer yesterday cancelling appointment to fit protection plate. Reason- they don’t exist unless you have an RX or NX. Add in the fact that the Lexus + app has not worked properly since about October 23 and my conclusion is that Lexus just do not care.

Sorry but it shouldn’t be a surprise at all… as noted in the Lexus statement, and as others have shared in this thread, only the RX has a protection plate currently. A solution for other models is being communicated to dealers at the end of April (although it seems the statement now reads “coming weeks”)… https://mag.lexus.co.uk/lexus-uk-statement-on-vehicle-theft/?fbclid=IwAR2u1DC_0mAo4_kSpK_1FLViLNyHJq0nAKctwfXCMxQi1CwuNiGBA10yY0w_aem_ATXzc0mSafM1xX72JZyfSo-7KpoTKXtkPQjmf6ToRhjQ_4GsDaGMH6Nf5ACoFWEW2pE

I know it’s not great having a vulnerable car, but Lexus was rather clear a solution wasn’t yet available.

  23. 13 minutes ago, Navnan2 said:

Well the article posted by Colin states your vehicles qualifies, are you planning to show them (the dealer) the document from the Lexus UK magazine?

The list is of affected vehicles. The article is clear Lexus will be communicating with dealers about their solution at the end of April. It should have been obvious there was no solution to book in for at the present time - obvious to both Neil and his dealership…
