FYI the battery does not have the temperature sensor built in. It does however have a groove specifically for the sensor.

For the 12V battery a decent AGM battery with similar dimensions will do the same job whilst costing you much less than going to the dealership.

    Link for the curious: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/hybrid-technology/904124-ls600hl-12v-battery-replacement-get-this-one.html

    Hello,

Thank you for explaining this and it is very useful information as well.

When I need another Battery I know what to look out for and will hopefully save some money too.

    Hello everyone,

I am curious if any of you have tried a battery other than the OEM Panasonic in the LS600H.

    Thanks

    Hello,

I was in the process of purchasing a replacement Battery for my LS600hl. I have the original Panasonic which is 13 years old!

Please note, it is not just about what size fits, it has to be an AGM AND have the built in sensor, this is really important (just can't remember what the sensor does, but it is to do with the hybrid Battery!)

I would go and get it purchased from the dealer only, free next day delivery, you are then not taking any risks and have peace of mind.

In the end my original Battery was fine and new one not required, even Halfords, who love to sell you stuff could not supply me a Battery.lol

#metoo for some reason I read them as centre caps, which would indeed be costly (£40 each). Lexus dust-caps for F-Sport (the nice shiny grey ones with logo) are like £2 from LPD.

They would NEVER use their insurance for that. That insurance is reserved for worst of the worse cases, literally death of something similar, maybe a garage with 10 cars burn down, only then it would be worth claiming. Also business liability insurance, like most other insurance products have excess, which I assume probably be at least £10,000. If you start claiming £181 job mistake on business liability insurance, then you will be uninsurable business right away. No business owner would ever do that.

Oh ok that makes sense, but they should sort out your loss

It's the same down here too (Berkshire) - potholes that used to be fixed a few years ago are now left - I've logged complaints with our local council and they just say the road has been inspected and deemed ok - they now have images of potholes that they won't fix that a few years ago would have been deemed dangerous - I've even raised the issue that drivers are swerving into oncoming traffic to avoid the potholes which is very dangerous - do they care - no - they just point me to the images that say they are within tolerance - obviously most drivers disagree and value their cars more than the council do!

I understand but it takes one big car to make a claim and then they lose thousands AND have to do the repairs, not wise at all.

  5. Unlucky mate.

I think speak to person in charge and they will need to pay for the sensor, re install it and reprogram it.

The TPMS valves can break off after a few years old, but that is not the point, nobody told you, nobody rang you to tell you and it's just not good enough leaving poor receptionist to give out the bad news.

I think you are talking about £70 minimum to get it all sorted.

Some car enthusiasts  hate this sort of stuff but surprisingly the original badly stained grey calipers look tidier with a uniform colour finish.

Anyway it's done now.  The front calipers are huge on this car, looks like they are 4 pot,  maybe even 6.

Off to test drive  the new hybrid LBX at Lexus Hull tomorrow  which might be a suitable replacement for her Hybrid Toyota Yaris but sounds like the pricing will be a bit of a stretch.

They look great and tidy and well suited to the Lexus

  7. Hello,

Think roads are bad come to Oldham or Greater Manchester!

Even the motorway, the M60 has gots some really bad bits.

The issue is is down to..

Patch repairs when done, a few layers and that's it, come winter back to same situation.

Too many vehicles on the roads, can't take the loads and pounding of the vehicles.

    The solution is actually

1.This countries infrastructure is broke, so raise taxes and do a proper job on the roads like they used in the 70's and 80's.

    2. Invest in better public transport, that is reliable and frequent, so less cars on the road.I am not in favour of public transport, but we have bloody queues everywhere and some people wouldn't drive if public transport was good.

    3. Whoever wins the tender on the roads and motorways, it needs to assessed on quality, materials and workmanship and guaranteed work, as cheap and ineffective work e means we all pay more road tax.

    4. MPs who represent their areas and understand about car driving.

I am sure there is more, but will get off my soap box now.

Maybe the tensioner causing the issue has freed itself and may stick again. The video posted by Ying Zhu by the car care nut is the one I mentioned earlier and remembered watching.

Yes I watched that thanks and it makes sense, I think that is what it is too, but now not  worried at all 😃

Turn off the worry and now just sit back and enjoy your amazing, comparatively inexpensive to run and maintain Ls600  👍

    Totally agree Malc,

I tried at different times too. But your right I must let it go, long live the Lexus❤️

I was driving on the motorway today for 30miles each way and had some fun in hybrid power, did a few overtakes and it has masses of unreserved power so could easily get you in trouble🤣😃

Also checked oil and it is still the same gold colour as it was new over 200 miles a ago, so I am happy about that.

Finally thanks to everyone who have helped on this forum.

Thanks, I work away from home and don't take the cars, so when I am home, I will get this looked into.

From what I can recall the tapetting noise is coming from near the oil cap. Does not  occur when car is cold and does go away and apparent when it is electric mode only.

Tried all day today, when cold, after motorway, when stationary bit no noise.

Really don't understand jow it  has just disppeared??

    Hi mate,

I have a LS600h as well and can tell you the sound is because of a timing chain tensioner issue.

I have attached the TSB from Toyota on the issue but be advised that in order to fix this issue outside warranty is 20 book hours excluding parts.

Your engine will not be blowing up and I don’t expect the issue to cause issues for the near future, the issue is covered in depth in this video. The LS600h has the 2UR-FSE however the design is the same as the 3UR-FE hence the same issue with the timing chain tensioner.

    Hope this helps.

We should really make a sticky with all the common issues as another issue is the valley plate coolant leak which affects the Toyota V8’s as well.

Thank you, this helps a lot.

The damn engine warms up and then no noise heard as it goes to electric mode and silent!

So looks like it had the issue when I bought the car and it has done 222k miles so am good with that.

I will still be checking it out as soon as I can with more details to follow.

    Thanks again.

Btw how old is your car and how many miles has it covered?

  12. I don't mind trying the fuel additive.

Just switched engine on, after not starting car for 3 days, no noise upon startup, gets warm and revs drop slightly, then goes into electric mode and rpm is zero.

So only when the car is warm?

Tomorrow I will drive it and then when it gets warm see if I can get closer to the noise and where it is coming from... so much to do and so little time!!

The person asking the question was interested because the self-parking somehow facilitated the use of music player to be installed as feature not on that particular model.  You're absolutely right that the self-parking is useless: I just read about it and forgot about it: it did seem to me that just setting it up,assuming that it is really accurate, would take so long I couldn't be bothered and if I was to try it in town I'd probably be run out of town!😁

Sure I understand, I can have a look at some UK car ads and see if any 600h mention if they have self parking.

If it does am sure it would be a good to try it and have some fun, out of town though😃

    Hello everyone,

I'm hoping to buy a 2007 LS600h in the next few days (very excited!). I've got to make a bit of a journey to get to it, so I haven't seen it yet, but I'm expecting to actually buy it if everything's in order with it.

I'm going to fit it with Apple CarPlay using the Grom VLine V2 as this has become a deal-breaker for me since having it on my last car. From what I can tell, it seems that if the car is fitted with self-parking, the Grom system should work pretty seamlessly. But if it doesn't have self-parking, it interferes with the parking camera and takes up to 20 seconds to switch over if you don't manually turn the stereo off. I'm really hoping I have self-parking, as I would love it to be the seamless option, but I guess I'll have to find out for sure when I see it...

Anyway, out of my impatience with this, I thought I'd ask around on here to see if anyone knows about what was standard and what was optional on the LS600h in the UK? Was self-parking standard across the range?

From my own search, all I've found online is a brochure from the 2010 model in the UK, which says that self-parking was standard on the 600h, which is promising. But that's the facelift, and so quite a bit of the information on that brochure is wrong for the pre-facelift.

Does anyone happen to have a brochure/price list for the pre-2010 LS600h (especially the 2007 one), or know/remember anything about the optional equipment on these?

    Many thanks!

I own a 2010 ls600hl, it has the self parking, but as it so lengthy to setup, it is vurtually useless.

I won't know how you would get 25mpg plus around town, but you can 30mpg on the motorway.

There is the self parking button on the steering wheel on the left hand side, just below brake hold assist

Ok on the video it sounds like a rattle. The injectors typically make a tick like that of an auto igniting cooking stove.

If it is the hydraulic lifters then that sound is normally only there around 10-20 seconds when cold starting and doesn't come back again until the next cold start. Your noise seems to be there intermittently right?

Yes it is intermittent, but what I have not managed to do is get you guys some hard facts, where exactly is the noise  coming from, when does it start, does it finish by itself, a better recording of the noise etc, also as it is a hybrid as soon as the motor is charged is stays in electric for quite a while, so just need to time it right.

Also I really need to check if it occurs open startup as you can imagine as the choke is on, it is a bit noiser, but don't recall being able to hear it, weird?

  16. I don't mind trying the fuel additive, will first find out exactly where and how often the noise is coming from. Besides this  noise the rest of the engine sounds perfect. The car runs smooth and quiet when not in ev or electric mode. I guess that is the excellent damping.

Will also hook it up to OBD too

  17. 3 hours ago, Notamech said:

While i do recommend 0w20 vs 5w30 .I don't think your noise is due to the oil. Its probably something else. Perhaps have a garage diagnose it. It sounds to me like something might be lose like the heat shield on the exhaust manifold but it could just as easily be something else that is faulty and needs replacement. If you like experimenting maybe run an injector/fuel system cleaner through the system to see if that helps in case its a sticky injector. Lexus sell one as well https://lexuspartsdirect.co.uk/product/lexus-petrol-fuel-system-cleaner/

I think the noise is def more click or tappety like, so I think it is mechanical I  agree maybe it's not oil as it intermittent.

Hello, Have a look at this in the RX forum. It sounds potentially a bit like the same problem ( or similar). This thread goes on for quite a while but it was eventually found to be one of the injectors 'misfiring'. I had the same problem and had it fixed bt changing one of the port injectors (used for cold start I believe)

    Hope this helps

    Bri

Thanks, that is helpful and yes I will look into the RX forum

Just to be clear about the noise in electric mode only - is the noise apparent when it is electric mode only or is it 'not' apparent when it is electric mode only?
I remember a video by The Car Care Nut on a Toyota V8, can't remember if it was the 2UR-FSE though, and there was a noise caused by one of the Timing Chain hydraulic tensioners. LH side only iirc (passenger side in the UK)
The issue was that the hydraulic tensioner was stuck and wasn't putting tension on the timing chain guide so it was slack. Not slack enough for the chain to come off though, the tensioner can't go all the way back in because of a locking mechanism which is a failsafe. Can't remember what the noise sounded like or whether the noise was from cold or when warm.
Maybe this is worth investigating though.

The car is totally silent in electric or EV mode.

You can't hear the noise when cold or upon startup.

Hybrids are designed for optimum fuel economy, hence the engines use thin oil (0W-20 in your case, but the latest models are down to 0W-8 now). But this comes at a cost of potentially higher wear and more noise - just moving from 0W-20 to 5W-30 isn't going to introduce intermittent tapping, if anything it should make the engine quieter - unless your oil ways are severely clogged and therefore you would be best to use a good quality engine flush to clear out any debris. 5W-30 is an approved grade for your engine:

    image.thumb.png.b8ea7c6ed8ba84780e137f5e10fd62bb.png

But as I've said previously, unless you know where the noise is coming from you may be debating something that is completely irrelevant to your issue.

Thanks, I work away from home and don't take the cars, so when I am home, I will get this looked into.

From what I can recall the tapetting noise is coming from near the oil cap. Does not  occur when car is cold and does go away and apparent when it is electric mode only.
