  1. I never thought about it before, but it looks as if Lexus changed the placement of the SC300/SC400 badge in 1997. On the 1996 and before the SC300/SC400 badge is below the Lexus 'L' and between the tail lights. On the 1997 and after, the SC300/SC400 badge is directly across from the Lexus 'L' and above the right tail light. Is this your experience in the UK??
  2. I searched this subject and did not find any thread about it. I have a 1992 Lexus SC400 and I ordered a set of A/C cabin filters. It has been a real problem getting them installed. Yes, the cover et al is just as described, but I was unable to get the two filters to link together when they were placed into the slots provided. Well, it turns out that even though the slots/area is there for filters, Lexus did not put filters in until 1996 or 1997. The place in our earlier cars is just a 'hair' smaller then required to get both filters in. I did make it work though. What I did was to shave off the guides on either side of the filters. (Those places that are supposed to link together.) They both are in now and seem to be working just fine.
  3. Nice one mate :D ← I know that you would really like these leather seats, I did pay a little extra to get the Tuscany leather. I truly like these seats. Much better than the stock Lexus leathers.
  4. Look very nice mate. Dont know if they ship to UK though ← I wondered if Katzkins would ship to the UK also. So I emailed them and asked. Here is their reply: Dear Richard, We do ship to Britain, the price is $95.00 for Priority Federal Express, and 86.00 for economy. They can email me their order if they prefer. The price of the interior should be the same or around that price depending on what they choose. Please let me know if I may be of further assistance. 5. Cheers mate. I thought it'd be a cheaper alternative than to change the seats etc. Guess i was wrong ← If you would really like to change to leather seats, you should try these people: http://www.katzkin.com/SITE/HTML/index.html I am not 'handy' enough to install them myself, but if you are, the price is very good. I spent $1070.00 for them installed and taxed. It should be that good for you if you can find a local installer. This company will cut and sow the leathers before they ship them They will arrive ready for installation. My seats are Tuscony Leather and are glove soft. I chose two-toned inserts also. YOu can see the seats at: http://www.showoffyourcar.com/galleries.asp?carid=1680
  6. I was rummaging around in some Australian Lexus web sites and found this: http://www.f1kits.com/proddetail.asp?prod=...r%7EDash%7EPlug Is this the HU kit we need?
  7. Here are a couple of web sites describing the info we need about tyres & rims: Info #1 http://www.needforspeed.co.uk/htmlpages/TechWheels.htm Info #2 http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/e...tyre_bible.html
  8. Here is where I got my Center Caps: http://www.ehubcap.com/default.htm I chose a none-eom style. You can see them here: http://www.showoffyourcar.com/galleries.asp?carid=1680 :P :P
  9. I do not know if this is the Best polish around. But I used in on my 1992 SC400 and it is really great. I have used Turtle Wax for years. I like Turtle wax, but it's drawback is that you really need to wipe it off at the right time. If you forget and leave a spot overnight, it can be very difficult to get off. RaceGlaze wiped on easily and after it dried, ir buffed off easily. I found a patch the next morning that I overlooked and it still wiped off easily and buffed up like new. Look here to see the results: http://www.showoffyourcar.com/galleries.asp?carid=1680
  10. THanks for the info. At this point it is just an idea. I love my SC400, but having one with a manual transmission would be fun. My mechanic thinks that if the SC300 idea won't work, we might look into a SC400 transmission switch. That would entail a lot more than a SC300 with a new engine or at least that is how he looks at it. He says that either a Lexus or Toyota transmission with the right adapters could work. He has done similar work on a restored 1948 Chevy. Since he has access to a machine shop, he may be right. But, we are just 'blue skying' the idea right now.
  11. I would like to find a SC300, manual transmission with a blown engine. I would like to rebuild it but put in a SC400 engine. Hummmm! A SC400 with a manual transmission. What do you all think??? :D
  12. Try this: Rain was somehow getting into the interior of the sc400 and soaking under the back seat on the driver's side. This shorts out the plug for the car telephone. For now, I have unplugged the telephone plug. (I took the 'phone out any way). If you lift the back seat, you will find two plugs. One is white. Leave that alone. Unplug the orange plug and your sound system should come back. Good luck :D
  13. Everything depemds on how it was driven and maintained before the 160,000 miles. My 1992 SC400 had 135,000 on it when I bought it 3 months ago. Since then my buddy (a mechanic) and I have rebuilt/replaced what it needed. We replaced the Timing belt and water pump, etc. Shannon (my mechanic) says that while he was in the engine, he checked out everything that he could get to. He believes that this car is good for another 100,000 miles. I did get a folder of all the maintenance that the previous owner did while he had the SC400. Any way, the general impression is that these SC's engine and transmissions (auto) are particurlarly good and May run for more than 300,000 miles. It Must be regularly maintained, though. 14. I have finished rebuilding my 1992 SC400. In a thread in the US, I posted a few pics. You can see them by going to: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=20983 TexasComputerMan :D :D :D
  15. Before you go to the expense of fixing/replacing the headunit, check one more thing. My SC400 manages to retain a lot of water in the rugs behind the driver's side of the vehicle. (Might be the passenger side in Britian). Any way, pull the back seat out and look for two plugs. One of them is for the car telephone. If that plug gets wet, it can activate the mute feature of the 'phone, thus blanking out your speakers. Good luck :P
  16. I read on http://www.intellexual.net/, that the washer nozzels for Any Lexus automobile will fit on any other Lexus model. I changed my SC400, two spray nozzels for a 2003 GS set that sprays three streams. It works great. The color on my SC400 is Red (3K3) and the GS did not come in that color. So, I got black ones. They look great and work great also. They were Very easy to switch. They were $33.00 at the dealer :D :D
  17. Today, my mechanic and I replaced the spark plug wire assembly. So now all of the problems and fixes are complete. This is a list of the fixes: License Tag Holder Thermostat Oil Change & Engine Treatment Belts, Water pump, Seals Gas Filter & End-Links Spark Plugs Brake Shoes Oil Change stuff Amp & Hinge Pressure Hose & Vacuum Assy CD-Changer 4 quarts ATF 1 quart ATF Air Filter Wheel Skin cleaning/towels etc Paint front & Rear Bumpers Under body Plugs Spark Plug Wires Re-Tint windows Washer Nozzels & Body Plugs Now my SC400 is in 'Stock' condition. I read, somewhere, that all Lexus models of all years have interchangeable window washer nozzels. I got a couple from a 2003 GS. They shoot three streams out to the window. Only $33.00 at the dealer and I put them on my self. My SC400 is red/maroon(3k3), so I got a set of black ones. They work wonderfully! Total cost to date: $12,567.40 That does not include new leather. I have decided to wait a few months for that. This is a GREAT automobile! :P :winky: ;) :D

  19. I have a 1992 SC400 and had the exact problem that you describe. it was the amplifier that is in the trunk (boot?). It is located under the CD-changer. So, you have to remove the CD-changer to get to the amp. If that is the problem, then you need to discove why the amp failed. In my case, the drain line to remove water from the body of the car to under the car runs right by the amp. If it has worked itself out of the drain hole, that area can retain enough water to short out the amp. I pulled the whole assembly out, reseated the drain hose, put sealer around it to hold it in position and then drilled two small holes in the lowest part of the wheel well. (Just to allow any other water to drain out.) I found a new Nak Amp at a salvage yard in Indiana. It cost me $125.00 shipped. Once I got that in, the radio and the tape player worked fine. But, the CD-changer would not work. I finally gave up and was told that a 1996 and earlier CD-Changer from an ES300 is plug compalible to the Nak system. I found one of them in a salvage yard near my home. I went over there, plugged the cd-changer in and it worked. Then my mechanic rigged up some brackets and mounted it in the trunk (Boot?). I hope that this helps. I posted this onfo in teh US forum with a picture of the installation of teh CD-Changer. Look here: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=19520 TCM ← If the above info did not solve your problem, try this: http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...showtopic=22459
  20. Wow! I just solved my problem, almost. I cancelled the new audio. (That cost me my deposit) The rain is somehow getting into the interior of the SC400 and soaking under the back seat on the driver's side. (that would be the passenger side in Britian). This shorts out the plug for the car telephone. For now, I have unplugged the telephone plug. (I took the 'phone out anyway). If you lift the back seat, you will find two plugs. One is white. Leave that alone. Unplug the orange plug and your sound system should come back.
  21. Well it is raining here in Texas and my Nakamichi system quit. It has something to do with the rain/humidity shorting out the amplifier. I let it set for a while and it came back while it was dry. But, when I went out to lunch, in a couple of minutes it quit again. It seem to be ok when it is dry. Just quits when it rains. Well enough is enough. I am going to completely replace this system. I don't need a symphony quality system, but one that sound decently and doesn't quit when it rains. I am having a new radio & cd player installed tomorrow. This system will completely replace the NAK system. It is an in-dash Alpine radio & cd player. They have to make a kit to replace the Head unit in the dash. I have chosen to have only 4 speakers. one in each door and two in the rear. All will be 6 inch speakers. ($99. for a set of 2). The total cost will be between $750.00 & $800.00. That sounds like a lot but I am fed up with worrying about the NAK system failing in the rain. Again, it works fine when dry. So I will have a Nak Head unit with cd controls, NAK Amplifier and a 6 disk cd changer for sale after this install is complete. :tsktsk:
  22. I got my heater system working again. It was the solenoid on the Heater Control Valve. Got one very cheaply at a salvage yard and my mechanic put it on in about ten minutes. All works great now. My mechanic said that we could probably have used a solenoid from a Toyota Supra. But all is good now. (Sure do like some heat on these cold mornings) :D :P

  24. I also have this problem. It seems to be in the Heater Control Valve assembly. Lexus part number: 87-240. My mechanic is going to remove the vacumn assembly and try to fix it. Replacing the whole assembly is Very expensive. TCM
  25. I just bought a 1992 Lexus SC400 and have exacetly the same problem. Try looking at this web site: http://www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremoval.htm TCM
