  1. Hi, just found out today that the cd changer in the car I'm picking up on friday can take 12 cd,s!. Ive never had a cd player in a car just an old tape deck, to say I'm happy is an understatement. Always wanted a cd player , instead I seem to have aquired a juke box with the car :D . I know the car is just over 10 years, but that bit of kit must have been expensive in its time. I honestly thought it was just a single disc player, quite a nice surprise . I have no idea how it works so it will be fun learning
  2. Just had a look at your pictures, thats a cool car! I like the interior. You have satellite onboard. I have got navigation in my Merc , its rolled up in the glove compartment :D . But though the GS im getting on friday is fully loaded, that is the only thing it doesnt have, but I would like to have it one day, I bet its expensive to buy though
  3. Im going to have to get a book to write in , with all the tips and hints etc. Ive been looking through the site and there is loads of information :D . I noticed that an electric polisher was being used in a picture, now without seeming too stupid :P , ive never used one! are they easy to use , or can you scratch the paint work easily. I prefer to ask now and make myself look silly than risk putting a big gouge into the paint work and asking a question after :). If they are easy to use are they expensive ? The reason why Ive never thought of using one before? Ive never had a car that I thought was worth the bother to investigate till now
  4. thanks :D , im not sure if there is any chrome plastic on it, I'll be carefull on that one, thats a good point !
  5. Hi all, I have put a tube of chrome cleaner on my shopping list, but just remembered Its not long since I bought a tin of brasso wadding. Is it ok to use this for small amounts of chrome or not . what ever you suggest I will do :D Four days to go! Its had its MOT , and the new tyres are being put on today, then its the full engine service tomorrow. I cant wait for friday :)
  6. I have Matthew I didnt realise at the time, but next month when I get paid again im going to pay for my Gold Member's subscription. He has charged me £200 for the full set, but I dont think they will be top makes though. The origonal ones had a bit of tread left, but I thought it best to get them changed. I have enough polish to do the car a couple of times then when I buy some more I'll get it from the club. I know its off the track a little ( just remembered) but one of the things I found a bit unusual to get used to when I took it for a test drive was the drivers wing mirror, it makes things look further away, so I must remember that when i'm on the road out and about :D I have got my insurance sorted :D its £456 fully comp a year with my no claims insured plus sickness , legal and RAC cover which I thought was really good. Its up £4 a month compared to my Merc, I honestly thought it was going to be more, but they found a cheaper company
  7. I think its any colour you like as long as its brown or black :D I dont mind saving a little money as I'm having four new tyres fitted, I'm nearly broke now :) but I look at what im getting and think what the heck, lifes to short and so am I :D
  8. will do :) , but it has to be fine scratch to the undercoat, though it sounds silly It does makes sense as it has a chemical in it that stains as well. even if it just darkens it for the time being it will do me, but the way he was implying it would sort it out, shoe polish when left dries out very hard so perhaps it fills the scratch in, then you just buff over, ill let you know how i get on with it. For what its worth we have wood panelling in the house, and when it gets the odd scratch I use liquid shoe polish (brown) , and you cant tell the difference. I read that in a book a while ago, but never heard of it used on paintwork :D !
  9. Hi all, well Ive got a few days before I collect my car, and I thought I would get the can of spray paint for the car (Thanks Matthew for the info) which I picked up. Anyway I was talking to an elderly saleman at the autofactors, who has been there years, and when I was ordering the paint I mentioned there was a fine stratch down to the undercoat on the back wing, and did I have to get the whole wing done for such a small thing? . He said" there are a few paint and scratch restorers that you can get that might work, or he said SOME people have used black boot polish on a car with your colour, which they have found very useful" I said you "mean Kiwi?" he smiled at me and said "all I can say in this shop sir is that over the years on a black such as yours some people have used black boot polish, if its a fine scratch to the white undercoat just rub it over with a soft cloth,.... well some people do sir :D " He has been there a very long time so I'll try it. I think he said it in a roundabout way so the company wont get done for bad advice. But it will cover it up until I can to get it sprayed The spray I bought was just to touch a a square inch on the front bumper , and for little chips later on.. £11.16 for the can , not a bad price :)
  10. I phoned the garage today , I asked the salesman if they are going to put the red coolant in the radiator when its serviced. he said "Im sure they know what they are doing sir". I said to him "I hope so as you wouldnt want me to bring the car back in the warrenty period because the radiator has dropped to bits". It went quiet on the phone then he said "I think I had better write it down" :D ! thanks guys youve been a great help. made me laugh as well
  11. well they look very smart. Can I also add this forum isnt doing my health any good as I have a just over five days to wait , getting some really great ideas, also going to join the gold members club as well next month , well worth the money
  12. WOW! where can you buy the covers from ? :D I havnt got a spoiler on my boot, where do you get them from? are they expensive (they look it) and are they easy to put on
  13. Theres a box of brillo's under the kitchen sink :D , can I use these? that would save a couple of bob
  14. Do you think I should remind the garage where Im pickng my car up from about the red coolant? they are giving it a major service tuesday, I'm a bit worried they might just put the ordinary stuff in that was a really interesting read, what happens if the red isnt used?
  15. Thanks :D Ive got some Brasso, but I'll get some chrome cleaner as well, I can pick up the steel wool when I go shopping Peter.
  16. Hi :D Now that I have most of the jobs sorted out for the weekend, there is one that I would like to ask , and its this. My other cars have never had a shiny exhaust sticking out the back. The Lexus looks really cool with its twin exhausts The question I would like to ask is once I have done the minor jobs on it , is there anything I can do to make the exhausts shiny again. I know you can get covers for some pipes , but never even thought about it until now. They look like they have been polished before as the left-hand side one has one half which looks very shiny, the other side looks brown
  17. Thanks Chips I honestly had my doubts at first that the whole chance would have slipped through my fingers. I suppose in the past I have been a bit of a wimp when trying to knock a salesman down. After the advice on here I thought as a last attempt I would tell him what 'I' want instead of him telling me. I came off the phone and thought "what a daft sod" now you have really lost it . But he rang back and said I will have the major service and everything else I asked for :D . It really is amazing how fast something can turn around.
  18. I'm writing a shopping list, its just to fill in the time you understand :D , all that talking about food, im hungry now. Ill have a couple more questions tomorrow :)
  19. Hi mudzs, no I wont worry , its still worth it even if I had to pay more petrol costs :) , well just over six days to go. I feel like a kid thats waiting for christmas day! you do know I wont be sleeping thursday night Have to say your car looks really smart, in fact everyone I have seen looks great. And I'm getting one :D :D
  20. Thanks :) thats helped me a lot Ive just had to look for my sunglasses :D. Thats a good idea about being a Gold Member, so i'll have that sorted when I get paid again. . the scratch marks didnt seem too deep, so I wondering if its polish residue in them . I'll let you know when I pick it up. The motor factors where I live can put the paint I need in a spray can, so I might try it myself first, if it does'nt look right Ill have it took to a paint shop. I have sprayed touch-up my merc but that was white, and I have no idea if its harder for black , but its worth a try, if I do have to take it to a paint shop I will have only lost £15 for the can, its such a small area , and I might just make it look good enough , then save up and have the whole rear wing done properly :D
  21. Just a thought Mudzs :D when I do go into the town center (which I dont if I can help it) my Merc does about 20 in town, as it weighs over one and a half ton. But the engine is a 2ltr, and I have read no end of stuff about mercs having too small an engine in to pull the weight , and its very true. I notice it at roundabouts. Just to add all my cars are automatics :) because I was born with spinal problem, so I have a bit of a do changing gears, as it makes my back ache , this brings me onto the heated seats ! boy I cant wait to try them out. Im also a bit short 5ft 6 so if I raise the seat up I'll look like a tall person sitting down LOL :D
  22. I live outside Peterborough, so I dont do much city driving. I live about ten mile from work and outside the city, but its a long country road, so just apart from slowing down for junctions I rarely get into heavy traffic. And then there is the little trips at the weekend as well. But i'm not a heavy driver really dont laugh! its the first time Ive had a cd player in the car :D
  23. Hi all, I think everyone knows Im getting a Lexus on here now :D , and I would like some very welcome advice please, on how to do these jobs properly. If I list them I think that would better. So here I go then :) 1. the best thing for looking after the leather interior. Its in brilliant condition, but Ive never had leather before 2. one of the alloy wheels has what looke like a very faint scuff mark (like a pencil mark) across the center. Is it possible to do anything with it. I used to VERY lightly spray the wheel of my old car with this problem and 100% success (just the problem area), but not sure If I can do it on the Lexus. 3. under the bonnet there is what can only be described as surface rust around few nuts and on one horn, it isnt bad in anyway its just like a fine powder. Because of the special way the paint is put on I would appreciate on how members treat this. (im not sure if certain rust killers would effect surrounding paint) 4. I have a couple of scratches on the rear wing 7inches long , and they curve (as if some luggage has caught it) the scratches are very narrow, but the feint under coat can be seen, Just for now is there anything I can use to blacken them back up. 5. and the last :D what do you guys use to polish it to make it look like a mirrror I hope you can advice me, it might seem like simple stuff to some, but for the first time in my life I am owning a lovely car and want to look after it :D Ian
  24. Thanks guys :) , It makes next friday seem a long way off, I can wait, also I'm not going to tell anyone apart from close family what I have bought. Am I looking forward to going into work monday week! :D. What I am amazed over , and very surprised, is the GS is just as good on the fuel as my 2ltr merc. It didnt bother me if it was going to be a bit more, but when I saw the figures in the spec for the GS I sat there and thought wait a min, Ive seen these figures before. and sure enough , give or take one mile the mpg is the same. My question is this , how did Lexus do that? its a bigger car , and just as economical as my old merc. Im not that hot on engine technology, but for me thats really amazing . 7 Days to go :D
  25. Thanks again for the warm welcome :D , love the body kit! Ive noted the paint info down as well, i'm sure thats will be the one so I can order a can tomorrow. its a one min job. The only other thing I have to look at is one scratch on the back wing, it looks like a bag has caught it, but the white undercoat is showing. its not very long or big, but i'm sure I will be able to sort it out with out spraying. I found the coloured wax polish worked very well on the Merc, but that was white, ive never used black before. regards Ian I want to tart it up so I can pose going into work monday week, I havnt told anyone :D
