  1. Ive only done weddings for friends and neighbours . :D Ive never took a penny. That was when I had my old merc w123 series, It was white with all the chrome. I never took payment because I just enjoyed doing it for fun and I always got to join the party later in the day and have a meal :) . And the same would apply again , they can class it as the wedding present. I got a real kick out of driving a highly polished car in a suit with a bride in the car , call me old fashioned :D
  2. thanks Peter! job for the weekend , Ive got some hammerite as well :D Give me a week or so and I will post a picture on here, just got to polish the minor scratches out the left side. I bought a bottle of black t-cut B) oooo the shine :D
  3. LOL point taken, I was looking for Lexus bits and bobs on ebay, just to see what there was being new to it :) , anyway to make my self look even more silly here is the link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...7966738568&rd=1 But in all honesty it was a genuine question as I had seen them on the odd Lexus, and thought I would ask. But dont worry I have taken your advice and not going to get one. I thought at the back of my mind as I had been asked about doing the odd wedding with all the ribbons and stuff that gets stuck on the car I had a sad idea that it might just set it off, But then again it really would need to come off when needed. Also it looked nice and shiny !!
  4. Moving away from the Lexus badge :winky: Can I paint my calipers so they show a bit better through the alloy wheels. They are the origonal ones so need a bit of TLC. I have never thought of painting them, but then again never had a car before that was worth the thought of doing it. I have been told a couple of times this week that they would look very smart painted black to match the car. They look a sad mottled silver at the moment, is it possible to paint them? as I thought they get quite hot on braking. I have to make what I have look nice , until the funds start rolling in. :P It nearly broke me, but was it worth it :D :D
  5. :D I think you have made my mind up for me, it was just a thought. but not a very good one . Ill put my money towards a satellite navigation kit instead
  6. well I was just about to give up on the idea but.......... :D. It could be my first little mod do you think I would have to let my insurance know that I have beefed my car up with a badge if it was a big round badge like the merc one , it would look ugly, but the Lexus looks small and oval and pretty cool with it. I'll wait and see whats to be said on here first though :)
  7. Thats an idea :) . Ive just edited this, as Ive just been looking at your car , what a cracker , I can only wish at the moment, but the good thing is I only have to wish for the mods , Ive got the Lexus already!
  8. ooooo no! :) , I just wondered if it would set it off. I had seen Lexus cars on tv with them on. It wasnt to look like a Merc , my view was that the car is better than any Merc I have had, and the Lexus logo looks really good. So why not show it off , it was just a thought, but maybe not a very good one?.
  9. Hi Bob you was helpful, and it put my mind at ease. I think I am just measuring them wrong. I did check (for peace of mind) the pads are brand new the garage put on. so every credit to them what they said they would do they have. :) Going to get another key cut tomorrow , ive only got the one . Im terrible for putting car keys down at home then forgetting where they are
  10. On an earlier post, I was mulling about whether it was posible to get a bonnet Lexus badge , that fits on like a Mercedes one. I found a chrome one on Ebay that fits on upright like the merc one. What I wondered is, does anyone else have one and does it set the car of? :D . My GS is black and I honestly thought a chrome Lexus logo on the bonnet would really set it off, I just wondered what anyone else thinks. :) . If its a daft idea I wont touch it Someone came up to me a few days ago and said the car would look great for a wedding with the white ribbon on it , Im sure its a hint
  11. thanks Matthew :) nice pictures! it really does look good on the dash. You have convinced me :D.
  12. well I have to say that from now on if I need any info I will just use what I get on here :D . Bob I phoned Lexus in cambridge and the size you gave me was dead on :). Though there are other varients flying around out there which have been put on the GS the 30mm is the one meant for my car as you said. I had to ring as I was getting really confused here and dont want to drive around and have an accident because of the information was wrong from cambridge. So many thanks for your help on that :) I have a lot of learning to do
  13. Thanks Bob, I am really confused now, as it was Lexus in cambridge that phoned me and quoted me 24mm. well he said and I quote " 2 x 12mm less 1.5mm for each protion leaves 21mm". Just to point out I have not misheard or misquoted, I wrote it down and double checked the info. As you have got the proper spec thats good enough for me (perhaps he misread the info). but I wont worry anyway as the garage where I got the car from didnt want to change them either just yet :)
  14. How often do they need to be topped up (ive never had airconditioning until now :) ) Ive no idea what to look for
  15. can you get satellite for the GS300 (1994). And is it expensive. If you cant is there an off the shelf one that would compliment the inside. I know some things look awful that just get "stuck on" if you know what I mean :D
  16. thinking again I wonder if it would look odd if I did put a rear spoiler on as they were for a sports model . I can live without one , but they do look very smart on the car. One thing that would have been nice if Lexus had made a bonnet badge for the GS that sticks up like the Merc one, now that would have looked really good. WIth the car being black it would set it off nicely, but I can only wish :D. So far I have polished all the scratches out from the right front wing to the boot (im still working on the boot) . but what a difference . Also I used a bit of duraglit wadding to polish the fine scratches out of the laquer on the center console inside. It looks brand new! :D I used the stuff very sparingly but its done the trick.
  17. :D Well it looks like I was worrying for no reason. When I took the car in to have its dash bulbs changed , I asked the mechanic there if it needs its discs changing at the front, (he was the one who fitted brand new discs and pads on the back) if so how much ?. He just laughed at me and said it will cost me nothing as they dont need changing. Wait until the next service in April 06 but he said I should get another year out of them on top of that. Just to add I only do about 15k a year at most. so not an awful lot compared to others. I have come to the conclusion that the remarks at work about them being badly worn were just jealous comments. They are slightly worn . I dont know that much about vented brakes, but the mechanics word is good enough for me. I have seen some Gs 300 with rear spoilers are they an extra thing I can buy? I will admit I seem to like them
  18. thanks guys I'll see if I can borrrow a digi camera at the weekend :D , ill have a look on the hub as well, to see what I can find on looking again I did measure the depth of each disc and they seem to be (when new about 12mm for each part) there is a 1.5 mm ridge around the edge, so the thickness of each portion is 10.5 mm. I'll see if I can find anymore info for you. Compared to my old Merc 21 mm in total is loads, but then again I dont know much about vented discs
  19. LOL no im not a skin head, its a little short , I have a no2 on the haircut gauge . Ive always had a hairdryer in the shed drawer, I thought it might come in useful :D Its the same black as the Lexus :zee:
  20. When I bought my G3 300 :D , the rear brakes were all new, but I had new pads put onthe front . I'm not that well up on disc info, but from what I can see the front is made of two discs about a finger width apart. But the discs are worn 1.5 mm on the road side and the inner facing disc. Sorry if im not being very technical :D. Is this a lot of wear? I know its a total of 3mm, but because I seem to have twin discs its just 1.5 a disc , is this ok, or am I measuring it wrong. The garage says I have loads on, the guys at work say they are worn bad , I think someone is a bit jealous but had to ask just in case,as brakes are important. I dont know what the wear limit is on these ones
  21. thanks Jay :) I had a bit of good news regarding the lights :D. I mentioned the light on the phone to the garage where I bought my car from and I was told that they would change the other one on warrenty. Just as a thought I said "if two have gone, why not just replace the lot?". Anyway to cut a long story short Ive been asked if I take a fiver down with me and pay for the other bulbs they will put the one in that they said they would replace , plus the others I paid for but with no other costs at all, it seems pretty fair as I wont lie I was a little nervous with taking the console apart. £5 for a set of bulbs seems a good price.
  22. I wanted to try out my new 3.000.000 candle power torch. I could have done it tonight :D .
  23. I spent all afternoon polishing it :D . The paintwork has the ususal feint scratches on it, so I rubbed it very gently with a bit of duraglit wadding , when its buffed up and polished black looks amazing. Give me a couple of weeks and I'll post a picture, rest assured I wont be draping myself over the bonnet
  24. Thankyou :D, I have an old hairdryer in my shed . I cant wait to get rid of this sticker its really bugging me
