Ok folks, my Mk2 GS has the headlamp washer switch located on the dash to the left of the steering column. When I used to press it, it would spray just enough loverly water onto the headlamps giving them a nice clean.

Now when I press said button the washer stays on untill my washer bottle is completly depleted, the pump only turning off if I turn off the ignition. When I turn the ignition back on the washer is back at 'rest'.

Q1. Should the washer work only while the switch is depressed.

Q2. Does the switch operate some magic trickery timing circuit that allows water to flow for a few seconds.

Q3 (and most important of all). How do I fix it.

Answers on a postcard.......... :driving:

Q1. Should the washer work only while the switch is depressed.

Yes - it should spray for about a second when you push the button and then stop

Q2. Does the switch operate some magic trickery timing circuit that allows water to flow for a few seconds.

Yes - there's a "Headlight Cleaner Control Relay" which is located behind the right hand haedlamp - I have a schematic and a location piccy here if you need it.

Q3 (and most important of all). How do I fix it.

I'm guessing the relay is Rogered - prolly needs a new one - or it might be just loose, or bad connection, or wet maybe?? - worth a wiggle
