First Lexus Is 220d Running In Tips

Recommended Posts

Just took delivery of my First lexus.

Has 8 miles on the clock.

Any tips for a new owner and the first few hundred miles?

Boot to the floor let it know who's boss...only joking. :winky:

The gearbox will take getting used too, take it easy and you'll be fine 1500 revs would be a good target for a while try not to go below and you'll see the gear ratios will work for you..stay out of 6th gear...not for ordinary sub 80 mph driving. Economy is fine in my car 2007...6.4 litres per 100 klms over 71000 klms = 44 mpg from the start...others I fear had the Boot to the floor to let it know who's boss approach and spent week after week crying about economy. :msn-cry: Now in my case I'm driving 700 to 800 klms ( circa 450 to 500 miles) every fortnight that's how often I vist the Diesel pump. To be fair part of the economy comes from doing a fair mix of long and short journeys. All short journeys will not in my experience achieve 44mpg.

Best of luck with the car...enjoy...keep safe. :driving:

Thanks for the advice. First decent motor Ive owned and never had a new one.

I`ll be doing at least 350 a week mainly motorway.

Borrowed a clients 07 plate for a weekend when they were getting rid and loved it.

I would say 2/3rds of RPM max (i.e. no more than 3500rpm) and 2/3rds of top speed max (so OK for national limits), stay out of 6th totally. Do this for 1200 miles and then gradually raise the game. Keep eye on Oil levels.

If you're running in on Motorways then remember it is bad to run in at constant speeds, speed and slow down regularly, even use 4th if chugging behind artic's at 58mph.

This will give you best results.

Lots of pople have had poor economy and from what I gather not been hitting it hard. But. It's a lottery by all accounts, in Ireland VrmmVrmm I think you tend to have lower national limits and mainly A roads? So mid 40's is easy. It's when you start to venture into 70mph driving that the economy is hit, so it will be nice to see how the new model performs. Let us know.
