Water Leak

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have just purchased a 2002 is200 sport and I have a coolant leak. At the moment I can't find any wet patches in the engine bay or under the car but I have noticed a pink ish dried residue at the front left of the engine, I'm thinking is the water pump. There is no White oil in the filler cap so I'm ruling out the head gasket. Is there anywhere else I should be looking or should I just change the pump? Is it also worth changing the cam belts as I can't seen any history of it being changed. The car has now covered 85000 miles.

Cheers

hi,chances are if you have a small water leak you wont find any water under the car because of the underneath covering/tray.As for the cambelt that should have been changed 2 years ago(it really does surprise me that a lot of car owners including lexus are prepared to run the risk of extensive damage and expensive bills)by not changing the cambelt and other bits when due.

As a role of thumb if i do not know the history or do not have the history of a car, the first thing i have done is the cambelt - had my cambelt and water pump done a while ago even though it had only done 55,000 but was coming up to six years old.

Well since the cambelt needs doing you might as well have the water pump done too - a stitch in time saves nine.
