Rx300 2003 Sel Vsc & Engine Check Light

Recommended Posts

I have recently has the VSC & Engine check lights come on my dash. The dealer has looked at it, and says it is part of the catalitic coverter, and wants £550 to sort it out. However the lights keep going on and off. I have had it suggested to me that it could be condensation around the sensor, due to the cold weather.

I have had the car 7 years and it has done 163,000 miles. Unfotunately I am no mechanic and rely on the dealer to do all under bonet work. So the question is do I pay for the repair or have it looked at further ???

Many thanks

Jason

The sensors of the cat system are bound to wear out, and it's very unlikely that the ones you're using now are the parts that originally equipped your car, given the mileage. Most fail at around 50/60k miles.

It's pretty common for the light to go on and off, at least at first. I'm afraid you'll have to replace them.

However it might be interesting to know exactly what error is read on your ECU: if you get P0174 and/or P0175, that means faulty sensors (the VSC+Engine lights are common to a long list of failures).

Given that, for your peace of mind you might perform a short check on a few items that might trigger the same error code. Check this out, and merry christmas! :winky:
