Stereo

hi

a few months ago I took my car to a local ICE installer. The original Lexus HU was knackered so I opted for my Kenwood that I had in my previous car.

I didn't realise at that point you can buy a loom for the IS200 and I had contacted a few other local ICE installers and they had no idea what was involved. Anyway, I settled with the guy that had 'experience' with IS200's assuming he knew exactly what to do.

He then cut the wires that originally went to the amp and reconnected them to a Ford loom (which I still had connected to the Kenwood) He also tried to mug me off where the Sat nav is concerned, luckily I was still on his premises when I checked it all out. He ended up making some little circuit to connect to the Nav which still works (cheeky bugger tried charging me £100 for that circuit alone!! Needless to say I told him to Jog on!!!! )

Since then, I can't have my stereo particularly loud as it cuts out for a few seconds. The whole unit powers off and I have to wait for it to read my CD/Mp3 player again before the music is restored.

What can I do to rectify this? I was considering putting a sub and amp in the boot but fear I'll just make things worse!!!!

Cheers

Rob

Well the 'expert' who did it was not so. As you can get a harness for an aftermarket stereo.

I would think if it cuts out its the way it wired in but its not going to be easy to sort out.

I would think get a proper lexus harness for an aftermarket unit and then solder and heatsink all the cables the 'expert' cut

My wires have been cut, not by me but a previous user down the line. So having to hunt down a loom, when I eventually find one out of a scrapper will try wiring it up. As for connecting it to an aftermarket stereo, will deffinately buy a harness, if you do get one, dont get a cheap £15 one becuase they are made to a high standard and subs wont work unless you use seperate wiring. Im about to buy one myself.

But if you dont want to buy a harness then you have a loose connection within the wiring causing it to cut out its happened to me on a previous car
