Is220D Steering Rack Failure

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've just joined the club but I have been following the forums for the last few months since buying my 59 plate IS220d.

The steering rack on the car failed last week whilst driving on the M42.....very scary! The car is currently with Lexus Birmingham and I have been quoted £2450 to replace it. Lexus GB have offered a maximum good-will payment of £1400 but that still leaves me with a bill for over £1000 on a 4 year old car that has only done 42,000 miles.

In my opinion major components on luxury cars should not fail after such a short life. Can anybody offer advice about who to chase for a more generous good-will payment or the full cost of the repair.

My wife is 8 months pregnant so I have asked the dealership to go ahead and do the work ASAP as I can't live without a car but I would like to carry on the fight to get my money back.

Thanks

Paul
