  1. I'm willing to give em a try on a silver is200 (mine) who imports them and how much? Love the look you achieved.
  2. The tax disc holder sounds like a mobile phone aerial to me. As for sat-nav, this site might help. http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/in...t_uid=71&stid=3 I build in-car pcs, however they cost £1500 and do far more than gps, so are probably not what you are looking for.
  3. Hi there, thanks for the advice so far. As for the S2000, I said I thought it would be a lot faster, and they were similar. That does not mean I beat him, as i didn't. He was trying though and maybe his S2000 had too many miles on the clock, or had been trashed a bit. My sport does seem much faster than I thought it is supposed to be, so maybe its had some extra tuning. I read its supposed to have a top speed of 134mph and 0-60mph in 9 seconds? I don't like admitting it, but we were both well over 140mph when we had to slow down for traffic and the is was still accelerating. We hadn't started from standstill but from 80mph, which I suppose lessoned his advantage. I realised it was a stupid thing to do that sort of speed, but its a new car and you have to test it out once, don't you? How much did I pay? Well, after I have spent the money on the parts, and respraying the bumper (couple of minor scratches), service, tax etc etc, it should stand me at less than £10,000. For a sport with full service history, low mileage etc I don't think thats bad, especially now I have driven it. 5-spoke alloy for £50, that should do as a spare, where do you live?
  4. After a long search I have found and bought the lexus I wanted. IS200 Sport, Silver, 28k, 2001Y. Although the car is almost perfect there are a few things that need doing. 1) Annual Service is due, already booked in for the 25th. 2) There is no spare wheel, the wheels are the 11 spoke 17" alloys in graphite (although I am refurbishing them and am considering silver). Lexus have quoted £370 for a new one, anyone have any second hand? 3) The chrome gear knob is very scuffed and needs replacing. 4) The piece of plastic which covers the screws that hold the rear view mirror in place is missing lexus quoted me £30 for a replacement. 5) The interior trim on the drivers pillar has a burn mark, lexus have quoted me £70 for a replacement. 6) I am considering spraying the brake calipers and putting on chrome lexus decals, any advice on the best colour and the best source for decals? 7) The orange lights on the interior look like an old fashioned calculator, and i heard you can replace these with modern blue leds? Is this difficult, can you still dim/brighten the bulbs? Can it be done on both the dash and center console? 8) I am fitting an in car PC and would like to get a replacement top part of the center console so I can drill the holes needed and still keep the original panel intact (sorry for the poor description the panel is from the air vents upwards). I love the car, and its actually much more sporty than I was lead to believe (speed constantly creeps up while i'm not watching). I was challenged four times last night to a race, although only the S2000 was worth my attention. I thought the S2000 would be far faster, but it turns out they are very similar. After that I put a classical CD on and decided to be a bit more mature in my driving. For such an understated car it attracts so much more attention than I ever imagined. I feel like royalty. If I didn't have a girlfriend, lol. Sorry the post is so long, get in touch if you can help with any of the parts or just advice. I'm a very happy bunny.
  5. Great vids, look great. However I can see why Lexus don't offer the IS200 in yellow, it looks so cheap.
  6. Your mailbox is full so I can't pm you any more.
  7. Any where I can see pics/ read reviews of the short shift. Loved the shift on the MR2, is it similar?
  8. I recon that would look great in any car, but maybe get some blue leds for the instruments etc?
  9. Dead right Paul...maybe also add newbie Scorcher to the list of S/C possibles as well? ← Ooooo, with a superscharger I could reverse into ditches even quicker!! Pete ← I wish I had the money, :D.
  10. Awwwwww ... sounds good !! me like me like ! - anyone actually done this then ? ← To a lexus IS200, I don't think so. To any car, i'm fairly certain yes. I will be posting pictures as the in car pc project progresses if I can work out how to add my car to the sites garage, do you need a gold acount?
  11. CD unit on my V-reg IS200 failed after not much use over two years (it crunched the discs), and was replaced under warranty. New unit also failed within a further two years, refusing to play at all, but Lexus would not replace it as car was now out of warranty period; Lexus Swindon quoted an astronomical sum for replacement, while a local car audio specialist quoted £40 just to remove unit for inspection, with presumably another £40 for replacing it plus the repair costs. As tape deck still worked fine, I recorded at home those CDs required for use in-car onto tape cassettes, the resultant listening quality being virtually the same; this procedure can be recommended as a low-cost solution to the mean-spirited attitude of Lexus. Cheers - Harry L ← Possibility I will be replacing my is200 stereo unit in the near future if you wish to have the unit pm me in about a week.
  12. Its a socket that allows you to connect into the sensors on the car, reading errors etc. I have a deffiinate yes from TDI, but only assuming the protocol as ISO. I wishh to let my in car pc monitor the engine.
  13. Which costs more? - Supercharger to a point but its about even now (TURBO and all ways will cost more as there is more things to do to the car to fit Turbo How much more and can it be done in stages, are we looking at close to £5k Which gives you more power boost? - Turbo but charger "should" be more reliable (Don we all know the Charger is more reliable but thats not what he asked :P :winky: (TURBO with the right setup you could get 300+bhp :winky: ) 300+bhp <whistles> I want a turbo. Which affects insurance most? - Turbo kit as the charger is a official TTE product ( well for my Turbo and all my mods i only pay £680 :winky: £680 is not as bad as I thought <checks his overdraft> Can you fit twin turbos to an IS? Or maybe twin superchargers? - Aston martin did on a V8 ( Spook has just done TT his IS200 :winky: Anywhere I can see more info on these cars? Does the extra power wear the car out more? - No as the car shares most of the components as a IS300 which has 211bhp as standard ( all things wear in time ;) but how much time is the ) Well, as modded cars ain't worth the cost of the mods, would like to keep it a few years at least. Don't think its an issue though. Any issues with an automatic gearbox? - Not with the Supercharger (Dont know as i dont have Auto) I'm close to having auto, but been offered a very similar manual with less miles for a bit more money. Will anyone give me one for free? yes, if you drop £2200 in front of me at same time.( i dont think any one would give you it for Free ;) Awww, not even if I smile sweetly?
  14. I had an Opel Manta at uni. Still miss that car. Red with genuine manta alloys in black, twin headlights, leather steering wheel and everything. Strangly the roof rusted through which meant I had to scrap it. Lets hope my lexus lets me forget. Love those alloys, no way I can lower my car where I live though.
  15. Whats the difference between a supercharger and a turbocharger apart from the turbo lags as its powered by the exhaust gases (I believe). Which costs more? Which gives you more power boost? Which affects insurance most? Can you fit twin turbos to an IS? Or maybe twin superchargers? Does the extra power wear the car out more? Any issues with an automatic gearbox? Will anyone give me one for free?
  16. I'm not so sure I am that bothered about being able to double the speed limit, as long as it gets to crusing speed in a decent amount of time. I have only been on an autobahn once, and i'm not planning on making that journey again anytime soon. Thanks for the welcome, i'm sure i'll enjoy my stay and I recon it will be a long one. Think i've found my car, and yes it is an automatic. Slightly more than I was looking to spend, but its genuine with full lexus service history. Only thing is its slate grey, not sure about how good grey looks. Anyway, I have to wait till tuesday to find out if its mine. ← Good Luck Mate! :D The "Slade Grey" you are referring to is the Lexus Colour Granite Sky I think? (Unless they have a new colour out? :duh: ) It looks really nice when clean. OBVIOUSLY not as nice as Kensington Green! (But I am going to say that -thats my colour ) ← To be honest the kensington green was my first choice, but you kensington guys want too much for your cars. The grey is much better than I expected, however it looks like I'll have to wait till tuesday to find out if its mine, damn i'm feeling impatient. I'm also interested in doing a few things to my car, as there are a couple of black lexuses in my town (including a 2003 sport) so i need to do something to make it a little special without making it look daft. No idea what yet though. :EDIT: believe your right about the colour.

  18. I'm a lazy soab and I've always liked automtic cars. I'm in the market for an older IS200 and wondering whether I should consider an automatic. I'd love the tiptronic, but I gather this is not avaiable until the later models?
  19. I'm sure i should know who or what TDi is, but I only joined yesterday.
  20. 1999 LEXUS IS 2.0 SE 4dr [Navigator] Saloon, T reg, platnium Silver, 2 owners, full lexus service history, 6 speed manual, black leather/alcantara, sat/navigation system, 17" alloys, heated front seat, electric seats, electric sunroof, privacy glass, multi 6 cd player, traction control, air conditioning, climate control, snow pack, front fog lights, front light washers, e/w, e/m, e/f/m, r/c/l, abs, pas, 3x3 point rear seat belts, drivers airbag, passenger airbag, alarm/immobiliser, excellent condition, not to be missed, viewing essential, hpi clear, up on miles hence, cheapest ever, hurry, bargarn, may p/x. £5,950. The vehicle has done 126,000 miles, and its a trader who is selling it, so he must have bought it for less. What do you think, it doesn't seem a lot of money, even with the mileage and it makes me a little suspicious.
  21. You have a good point there, however there are three different OBDII protocols and I would need the correct one to be able to order the equipment, I would presume that its ISO so the connector would have pins 4,5,7,15 and 16. <fingers crossed>.
  22. Isn't budget always an issue, if it wasn't i'd probably go for the IS350 when its released, or the range rover sport. Seriously though, i'm looking to cut down on expenses so i've traded in my six month old navara (for £15k) and i'm looking to halve my monthly finance payments (so have a budget of £6-7k as I have to transfer some negative equity to the new car). Insurance is not really a problem as I am insured on any vehicle through my job, however this situation may not last, and the insurance company would probably refuse to cover me on anything too outragous. I love the lexus, but the performance figures are not the best in the world. Performance is not the reason i'm buying this vehicle, but if its not going to cost me anything then i'd rather have the extra bhp. I hear the is200 engine is smoother and quieter, and thats a consideration as well, with my budget high mileage vehicles seems the way to go, but thats dangerous on an import.
  23. Nice job with the carputer, really does the car justice. I've seen the site before, and many similar, but none actually list the cars and as the Lexus is not american there is a chance it does not support OBD-II even though it was built after 1996. The only way of telling for certain is to examine the socket and/or find a sticker under the bonnet. As i'm still looking for my car and havn't bought it yet, I have no way of checking, and I would like to get the pc parts asap.
