1. Absolutely do nothing !

Let us not forget that it is the banks that got us into this current mess we are all in and they have shown no remorse (still paying themselve huge bonuses etc) after the sub prime lending bubble burst!

They took your money illegally in the first place and it took a high court judgement to get these highwaymen to cough up refunds.

If they ever have sufficeient joined up thinking to discover their mistake (which would surprise me because these banker people are not that bright) I would delay paying them back for as long as possible. This would include asking for a wriiten explanation as to why the mistake was made. Then write another letter and ask them why the amount differs to the other two that was paid back to you. You can think of about ten questions you want to ask them but only ever write back to them asking one question at a time! Put in writing that until you are satisfied that the money doesn't actually belong to you then you will not be paying it back any time soon.

The other alternative if it is a reasonable sum, is to put it on long term deposit/bond (at a different bank) and explain to your bank that as you are not a 'sophisticated finacial institution' like themselves you honestly thought the money was paid correctly to you and now you have tied the money up on long term deposit so they will just have to wait.

    P.S - Can you tell I don't like Banks very much :)

    P.P.S - Banks don't have any money...................Only other peoples!

  2. What you are dealing with here goes far deeper than a flat Battery !

You are dealing with Japanese culture, and that culture makes it almost impossible for them to admit mistakes together with the associated shame and failure that goes with that.

They would far rather NEVER admit that a design mistake has been made and just keep saying "There's nothing wrong" and replacing 'faulty' parts then say "Oops our multi-million yen state of the art R&D department fecked up". For the Japanese that would mean they have to fall on their sword!

What will happen however is they will stand by their argument that nothing is wrong and then as if by magic, the next model out has addressed the (in this case small battery) issues.

The same goes with Japanese cameras and in fact all technology that comes out of that country.

You will not change their culture.

  3. Middle lane hoggers should be shot.

Absolutely agree!! The number of times I have overtaken a middle laner, got myself back into the inside lane, driven a few miles, look in the mirror and, nothing else behind me other than the PITA still hogging the middle lane!

And that is exactly why they should introduce legal overtaking on the inside as they have in the States! Of course for the majority of idiots on our roads this would blow their minds and people don't check their mirrors anyway so it would probably cause carnage!

(They should also introduce being able to turn left on a red light as well)

Both of the above would alieviate traffic congestion at NO COST to the government !!

  4. And let us not forget - 90% of the people in this country can't actually drive that well at all.

Take middle lane hoggers as an example - Just by their pig ignorance they effectively narrow 3 lane motorways down to two and therefore slow the flow of traffic.

I could go on, the list is endless - poor lane discipline on roundabouts for instance..... DOH !!!!..... You've got me started now !!! :megaangry: . Total failure to use indicators at junction - damn.... that was another one :whistling:

Anyway - In answer to you question, yes I DO think we should have an increased speed limit, but I also agree that everyone will then automatically drive at 90mph.

  5. If it is warped discs, check to see exactly how bad they are and how much you have left on them. (Go to an independant for this). There are independants that will skim the discs for you. I had this done on a Mitsubishi and the workshop had a machine that would do it without even removing the discs off the car!

Left the car with them for a couple of hours, went shopping, came back, paid from memory arounf £50. Job done, never had another problem as long as I owned the car.

  6. Thank you for all your comments. It appears I do have a problem with the air con system on my car which doesn't seem to be common on all Lexus vehicles. I think I will start by changing the pollen filter to see what that looks like. I may even take the car to my local Lexus dealer at Woodford to see if they would be prepared to investigate the concern under warranty. I will let the Owners Club know if and when I have any success in solving the problem. Thanks again.

Your local Lexus Dealer will be able to sort this out very easily. Take it in for an Air Conditioning Service. They will empty th old refridgerant, pressure test the system and fill it with new gas. They will also clean and disinfect the system with an anti bacterial conditioner which should kill your mould !!

  7. hi

i have my car for 3 years now and i have never had any problems with it. but just few days ago engine temp scale reached red zone when i was stuck in a jam. turning heating to max helped and i was in a hurry so i just drove home. next morning checked coolant level - it was empty -__-. since then coolant just keeps disappearing. also u can see white smoke coming out when engine is warm (for some reason its brilliant when its cold). checked oil - seems ok. apart from that car drives smoothly, no obvious drop in power..

what do you think is wrong and what would be best to do? take it to a garage, ignore it or maybe use "magical" quick-fix for 30 quid?

    cheers

Do you have mayonnaise on the inside of your oil filler cap? (White creamy gunk that resembles mayonnaise)?

  8. Actually - if you are claiming under the Sales of Goods act 1979 (as amended) you have six years from the date of purchase that the vendor has an obligation under law to sort the problem out.

This would be the dealer in your case if the vehicle wa out of warraty and not Lexus UK. Unless you specifically purchased your vehicle from Lexus UK (and the bill of sale/invoice reflects that) then your contract is with the seller and not the manufacturer. Different rules apply for goods under warranty and if your vehicle is under three years old I would suggest this WOULD be a manufacturers claim under the warranty.

If all reasonable means fail then I suggest a writ issued via small claims court by joint service upon Managing Director of the dealership and Jon Williams who I believe is now the MD of Lexus/Toyata UK.

It shouldn't come to that but be prepared to push - there is no way an alloy should just crack under normal wear and tear within a 3 year period unless it had sustained physical damage which would be obvious.

    Hope you get it sorted.

  9. I'm having all the alloys on my IS 300 refurbished in a couple of weeks time, taking them to Lepsons in Gillingham as heard lots of good things about them.

Not really sure what finish and colour to go for so would appreciate some of your ideas. The colour of my car is Platinum Ice and the alloys are the 6 spoke 18's

    cheers

    ian

Just had mine done, but not sure about the colour. what d'you think?

The big benefit is no more punctures and of course not having to check the tyre pressures any more.

Brilliant - did you not want to go for the railway option and have the ability to travel on UK railway lines? I hear it's becoming very popular !

  10. Ahhhh good..... I couldn't quite remember if it went down, then back up and then back down again or only went through the cycle once but I can remember you have to hold the button until it's finished doing 'it's thing'.

For reference it's the same procedure if your sun roof gets a mind of it's own as well except you have to wait until it goes through open, close and tilt modes.

    Glad it helped

    All the best

  11. Hello,

On my 07 400h the driver side rear window wants to be open, it's getting annoying.

If the one touch close function is used on the door or with the driver’s door the window closes then open about 2 inches. Same happens if I use the remote to close the windows.

I read the manual and searched here but can find no reference to it.

Can anyone give me a way to stop it.

    Thanks

Occasionally the 'brain' that remembers where the windows should stop etc loses it's marbles and has a bit of a seizure. It's all down to Nanny state and the fact that you can't have electric windows now with one touch closure that if a child leaves his/her finger there then the window would carry on closing and chop the little darlings digits off.

I say kids shouldn't put their bl**dy fingers in the windows in the first place so that will teach them a lesson - anyway........

You should solve your problem by holding window button on the drivers door in the open position until it goes through an entire cycle. From memory, it will open, pause, then close and then possibly open again and close, then there will be a beep and your done. It should have then 'learnt' where open and close is once more.

    Hope that helps

  12. ......... Lexus says the whole door will need be removed or replaced at 2000 Pounds plus.

And what Lexus Delaership told you that?? - Did they say that without even seeing the car and diagnose the fault over the phone? I think you should name and shame the dealer.

There is now way a door needs to be replaced because it wont unlock !! Maybe the same dealer thinks your alloys need replacing if your tyres have worn out or perhaps your whole engine will need to be taken out and replaced if you were unlucky enough to run out of petrol!

I would take your car elsewhere and don't even think about putting it for a service at that dealership. The worst I would think it could be is a faulty actuator for the central locking on that door (or maybe it's just stuck). Either way it won't cost £2,000 and it wont need a new door.... well.... not unless you take it to that dodgy dealer that is.

I had a similar thing happen to my wifes Mercedes on a rear passenger door. It locked and stayed locked and would not unlock no matter what I did. Turned out to be a plug that had come loose from the central locking motor in the door. Cost me about £30 from a Mercedes main dealer which was all labour becaue all they did was take the door trim off and plugged it back in! It's been fine ever since and that was about 4 years ago.

    Good luck

  13. ....... I wonder if they're genuine?

    http://www.lexusowne...showtopic=72288

No - They are not. They are illegal copies. They try and get round that fact and protect themselves from prosecution by saying that they provide a 'backup facility' for the software that you already own. They provide these illegal copies on the asumption that you have the original in your possession but do not have the means to back up the discs yourself.

Of course if this was tried in a court of law, they would throw the book at them since your 'back up' would have the same embedded serial number as every other one they have sold !!

    Buyer Beware !!!

  14. ....LV have just quoted me £430 BUT doesn't include cover for theft or attempted theft without a tracker being fitted.

What??? Seems like lunacy (but then we are talking insurance companies here). So they are saying that you should spend circa 25% of what the vehicle is worth to get a tracker fitted before they will cover it for theft or attempted theft?

Me thinks you should demand to have a word with the underwriter and ask him/her what planet they are on ! If it was attempted theft it wouldn't make a jots difference whether a tracker was fitted or not - it would still be in the same place you left it and therefore the tracker would be useless and pointless.

Edit - Sorry..... just checked the price of trackers and they seem to be around £200 fitted...... for some reason I thought they were over a grand ! :eerrrmm: .... Still seems a bit daft to insist on a tracker on a 7 year old car !!

  15. ......... Tesco have stated, whether or not you believe them, that he was not privy to the profit warning announcement at the time he sold his shares.

Sorry but in my opinion that statement is total bollox. There is no way that a COO with half a brain would not be privy to that sort of information a week before it was announced. If he was kept in the dark he should be sacked for being incompetent and not asking for that information in the first place!

I think the reason he only sold circa 5% of his shareholdings was an attempt to keep the transaction under the radar. Let us not forget that a lot of these multi million dollar/pound corporation are more corrupt than Mussolini. You only have to look recently at the Olympus corporation as a perfect example.

I'm not getting into a slanging match over this but companies the size of Tesco have more than their fair share of 'dodgy boardroom secrets' and turn out to be protected from blame or punishment by the nefarious political friends they keep.

    Enough said

  16. I did change the glass only, I bought them from ebay, but I in the same time I lost the heating for the glass.

Try Here or.... here.. I have used Wing Mirror Man before for my wifes Mercedes and they were excellent. Glass came with the connections and heater element and was around £25 and took 2 minutes to fit. Mercedes wanted £400 plus for a complete mirror assembly and said the glass wasn't available as a separate part due to safety reasons! I laughed at the parts manager and told him was either lieing or didn't know what he was doing - then walked out.

Anyhoo.... hopefully one of these companies will be able to help you.

    Good luck

  17.
Every year, 1.3 million people are killed and 50 million injured on the world’s roads. Carmakers are racing to create a vehicle that will never crash, but can it be done and will drivers accept a computer that overrides their driving? Would you let a computer override you at the wheel?

YES, ABSOLUTELY!!!......... Provided every other car on the road had a similar computer system fitted (That day is a long way off) :shutit: :shutit:
