  1. Its the Nav screen I am talking about when its in diagnostic mode. Its probably not worth photographing, as next to the japanese text is says OK. From this I deduct that its all working. You can get into this mode by turning on the display (any mode), then hold down audio and climate together. Whilst doing this turn the sidelights on/off twice (not too fast). Its not a problem or anything, I was just curious Thanks chaps
  2. You should be thinking about a cambelt replacement at around this mileage. Could that be why the Lex service is more expensive, cambelt/plugs/brakes etc.
  3. Sorry I did not read your post correctly, 17K is a little high, depends if it is exceptional with low miles. You really should sell private and pick up a car on autotrader etc for 14-16K probably.
  4. Not sure what thay are asking for for the mk4. Just sold my immaculate 98S with 70k miles. Got 14K for it. Will probably cost you more than this from a dealer. Hope this helps
  5. I dont remember my mk3 ls400 doing this, but the 98 mk4 certainly opens and closes everything with the remote.
  6. When you do the Audio/Climate/Lights ON/OFF thing for the diagnostics display, it appears in japanese. LS400 use to be in english, anyone know what it is is telling me . Also rather a shame, it no longer displays trip info etc.
  7. Thanks Glyn, Someone told me that there was a 2003 update due out soon, maybe I will wait for a while to see if this is the case, my version does not have all the Manchester M60 in. Same with other software, usually just buy a copy, then a week later a new version comes out. Ahh such is life
  8. It works ok. I used nero DVD copy on to a DVD+R, dont think it matters if + or -. Copy works fine, I can now keep the original safe. My version is 1.01 Oct 2000. Anyone know what the latest ver is?. When you ring Lexus, they do not seem to know, I always get "we will get you the most recent version sir". I got caught out by this before, ended up with 2 CDs the same for my LS400.
  9. I am picking up an LS430 next week, I will try copying the DVD. I always like to use a backup in the player, just in case the original gets damaged. I feel sure that this ok with regards to the software license. Anyway it will confirm whether this is possible or not.
  10. I once spoke to a lexus engineer about this, he reckoned that the standard ones are well tuned to the rest of the suspension. Any mods would probably be detrimental to handling. I have had 2 400s and they never felt "floaty", are you sure they are not worn?.
  11. Shoili, you are probably right about earlier mercs, I think they were built rather better then. I have driven both the modern S class and the lexus. The LS430 is very much improved over the 400, and on balance it is a better car for my needs than the merc. Anyway I have now bought one, so we shall see.
  12. Go 3 kids, need comfort and room (sigh). Downside to owning a Lexus, car quiet, kids sound noisier :)
  13. Its Climate and Audio. With the screen on hold these two down, then turn the sidelights on and off twice. Nothing much of interest though.
  14. I found it. Turn on the nav screen, hold down audio and climate, turn sidelights on and off twice. You should get diagnostics for ICE etc.
  15. Thanks Kazitachi, You have given me a lot of confidence. Who needs Mercs anyway, common as muck. :D
  16. Thanks for all the extra input chaps. After due consideration I think I have decided on the LS430, if I can find one at a reasonable price. Considering the depressed auction prices on large cars at the moment, dealers are looking a bit expensive. Still got to keep trying eh! :)
  17. I had one put on by a local firm on a 96 LS. This was about 4 years ago. I think it cost about £170ish. If you are only towing light trailers there should not be a problem. If you need to pull along a caravan or such, then I really think you will need to have a cooler fitted.
  18. They are not leds, but small wire ended bulbs that you have to solder in place, there are 3 of them. If they all went together, then it is not the bulbs, rather the regulated supply that feeds them.
  19. I had this problem when I bought my first LS400. Just turns out that quieter the car, the more you notice other noises, like the creak of leather on a cold morning. Its a phycological thing rather than absolute noise. Maybe they should generate a bit of white noise to fool the brain . Advice about different tyres is good, they do vary quite a lot.
  20. Dont see a problem if legally own the original and have a DVD writer. Only tried it with the CD version. No trouble at all.
  21. There is a few things that you can display, mainly GPS status etc. Nothing about other diagnostics for engine etc. I have the instructions somewhere if you need them. Not terribly useful stuff though. If you are interested I have a 98(S) with 70K and full history, lovely fault free motor. It is well worth the 15K I am asking. Let me know if you are interested. I am in west yorks.
  22. I am on my second LS400, never had any problem reading CDRs of any make. I presume that you are not using CDRWs, these do not work. As the previous suggestion, try a different recorder. I always use backups in the car, and that includes the nav disk. I like to keep the originals in pristine condition.
  23. Thanks Tony, Got mine for sale on Autotrader as from tomorrow, timescale depend on whether it sells or not. Will probably pinch the good wifes car for a while anyway. How not to keep a woman happy :P
  24. Nice comments. I think on balance that if the LS430 is due for a facelift, it may pay to wait and see if the earlier ones drop in price?. Not sure what all the talk about deisels is about, the car I tried was petrol engined. Nice Response, thanks everyone.
  25. Thanks for your comments Tony, Not really looking to spend 50K, more like 30. Only rarely do you find 430s for less than this, seem to be holding prices really well. Lexus dealers have 2000-2001 examples for around 33-40k. Bentley, nice but!! pehaps not. :duh: Mike
