  1. I have had 2 LS400s + an LS430, no bother with any of them, but non of them as many miles as the one you are thinking of. I have a Merc S430 now. Can't wait to return to LS, the merc rides bumps better, but the LS is superior in every other way. Dont talk to me about Merc reliability !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARRRRGGGG.
  2. Thanks Colin, I was not aware that a new model was imminent, this needs some thinking about, will affect prices for sure. Mind you, all big cars are bad, I bought an S type Jag when I got rid of the Lexus, just been offered 5k less that I paid for it about 2 months ago. That was against a GS. Probably better keeping it a while?.
  3. Thanks guys, I loved my last LS430, but with crashing depreciation at around £1000 per month, it just had to go. Thought I might have a bit more luck with a GS.
  4. I am thinking of buying a GS430, anyone know what the differece is in ride quality, noise comfort etc between the GS and a LS400/430. I have only had 2 LS400s and a LS430. Anyone drive both on a regular basis, just looking for opinions, any most welcome :)
  5. Sold my LS430 and bought an S Type Jag. No room, no storage space, mediocre performance, poor satnav, heavy fuel consumption and massive servicing costs, need I go on. Everything is sacrificed for style. Lexus again for me next time.
  6. I may have a later version, can you post or PM your vers. I think from memory mine is 3.4. Also have a DVD vers for LS430.
  7. Your Brother is right, looks like you have a fault. Could be difficult to find, probably a sensor. Maybe something only Lexus can fix?.
  8. I agree with flotsam, depreciation is a major issue, as it is with all large expensive cars. Thats why I got rid of my last 430. Would still like another though. I never found that servicing was all that bad compared to other makes, the "germans" seem to be pricier in general.
  9. I have had a Mk3, Mk4 and LS430. I found that progressing through the models the consumption slightly improved, 430 is the best for this. Maybe my style of driving?. Have a 3 litre S type Jag now, much worse than any LS!.
  10. Just got rid of my Ls430 and bought an S Type Jag. Its really quite good, but not a patch on the Lex. Not really suprising given the price difference. Was really sorry to lose the LS, but as current taxation has driven down the price of expensive cars. I recon I was loosing about £1000 a month in depreciation + a heavy tax burden. I suppose finanically I made the right decision, but I do miss it. I suppose at some point, I will be rather rash and buy another, what the hell.
  11. I think you will probably find that the element has gone open circuit. There is a connector in the back of the seat, but this is not likely to be the cause. I think probably a design fault, in that constantly sitting on and off the seat, causes an element fracture. Had the same problem with a MK3 myself. Did not fancy taking all the leather off, so just left it. Sorry about the bad news :duh:
  12. The Mk4 is significantly different from the earlier ones. Lighter/stiffer restyled body. Uprated engine, better performance 5 speed box instead of 4 Sat Nav Trac Control And a few other changes. Worth paying extra for. Seem to be fairly cheap at the moment. I just sold my 430 to a chap in liverpool, he had a highish mile LS400 he wanted to sell, looks nice. Try him on 0151 480 3650 (His name John). Its his business number, so I dont think he will mind me giving it out. Hope this helps
  13. I always thought that motorway phones were 2 miles apart. This was so you did not have to walk more than a mile to the nearest one. Maybe I am wrong?
  14. Thanks everyone, at least I know I have done the right thing. :D
  15. Kind of confims what I was thinking
  16. Could be just the battery?. Try jump leads from another car to see if the problem dissapears. Worth a try, it costs nothing ;)
  17. I recently advertised my LS430 on Autotrader. I received an email from someone claiming to be from Canada, and that they would like to buy my car. They did not even ask about condition etc. When I replied asking why they wanted a RHD vehicle as an import, rather than purchasing a LHD locally or from the USA at lower cost, I received the following "standard" email. ==================================================================================================== Hello, Thanks for your respond and you're appreciated in all ways by our ***. Get back to me asap. Best Regards, Fese.... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Find out what made the Top Yahoo! Searches of 2003 ===================================================================================================== This of course rung a lot of alarm bells. It seems like a scam to try and obtain peoples identity, presumably for nefarious purposes. Of course it may be legitimate, but unlikely. Just thought I would share this one with you, What do you think?.
  18. This is getting even more confusing. I have looked into all ways of keeping the vehicle, but sadly it must go. I am going to try staying with Lexus, GS300?. Already on my third, with no bother. Makes sense to try and stick with the same marque. Anyway will not have anything to chat about with you good people if I change:)
  19. Can't come out of company scheme, my company!. Never thought of jag mmmmmmm maybe. thanks chaps
  20. I had thought about a LS400, already had 2 before. Problem is that tax is based on original purchase price 50K!. Need something with lower original price, rules out the german stuff I think. My wife has a Honda, reliable but very noisy/poor ride, I guess later ones are better.
  21. Possibly not a topic to place here, anyway here goes. Sadly due to high taxation etc I have to sell my lovely LS430. I would like to replace it with something with sat nav and other toys. Due to crashing depreciation, the Vauxall Omega top spec models seem very cheap second hand. May even try staying with Lexus in the form of a GS300 if I can find a good one at a reasonable price, the I.S is too small for my kids. Anyone have any recommendations, anything considered apart from maybe french "fall to bits" types. Hope this is temporary, I will want another LS at some point.
  22. You did not by any chance accidently push in the button under the dash?. You need your key to release it if so.
  23. Dont forget that the stand alone units work off gps only, whilst the proper installed kit uses inertial navigation + distance sensors with gps just to correct the position. Units that use gps only are subject to positional errors and loss of signal. Notwithstanding that, they are still a useful aid. Of course other manufactures CD/DVDs will of course not have Lexus or other dealers in the database.
  24. Thx Alex, I have kind of given up now on this one, seems a lot of fuss to have them made and imported, wood with grey metal trim is not so bad anyway.
