  1. www.eforecourt.com/calc_mpg.htm This is a useful little calculator.
  2. Thanks Matt, I couldn't get it open before I see now it ends in an I not a 1. Now I got it. Works out about the same if there is VAT to pay (not clear on that). I got a tel. no for used tyres. I do not know anything about them but they had a very smart new van. 01977 670680 I just got it off the side of their tidy sign painted van on the M11 :)
  3. After I have them fitted on the car I'll post the supplier addy. The point was local can be cheaper. Yes it was the club discount sites that I was checking.
  4. I cleaned the seal with Meths then squirted black silicon along the leaking part. spread it out with my finger then laid some cling film over then shut the trunk. Next day opened it peeled off the cling film then wiped some silicone oils along it to stop it sticking. It appears to have done the job (?)
  5. I am fully paid up Gold but am unable to post new topics on Gold neither will the site accept my avatar or photos. Can someone free up my accounts as an error shows for everything I attempt. Thanks - got my pack today. Stickered up. Put the long club one in the back of my old tatty VW T25 campervan :)
  6. I went to the local village garage/MOT/tyre fitters and got quotes tonight. Pirelli P6000 225 60 R16 w £105.88 each inc. VAT fitting and balance Dunlop equivalent £88.13 inc. VAT balance and fitting. This was with no special discount, and I'd never been there before! Other discounted prices I've checked have £125.00 P6000 and £100 for Dunlop. Sometimes it pays to shop local!
  7. Thanks DJmike its an LS400 actually, is it still the smart key? I hope I found the rattle now, it might be the seat control knobs they appear to rattle so I blue tacked them too. See tomorrow.
  8. While dosing the seats with neatsfoot cream I noticed a little black push on/off button under the dash below the steering wheel. Anyone know what it is? Also I am plagued by a very loud rattle only when I go over a bump, appears to be coming either from passenger seat or transmission tunnel. Its an inside rattle. sounds like a cassette rattling but I have deadened everthing I can think of with blue tack but it is still there. Even took the First aid kit and drawer out. Armrest up and down, fingers in seat belt sockets, and cup holder still rattling Any suggestions? GRRRR.
  9. Dont laugh Saga was looking good for the over 50s but fell at last fence. Would only insure it with tracker fitted. I am with Firebond gave me 3 years no claims (didn't have to) comes out at £540 fc inc. commute. 10,000 miles. Tesco with 0 no claims were around £900+
  10. What is this all about? Where is my Gold member avatar?
  11. Looks like fun but not in the front garden! I expect I'll cough up. I might feel braver later. If anything goes wrong the parts are more likely to be at Lexus than in my kitchen :D Found a link about leaks advising silicone and cling film fix. Anyone tried that?
  12. Thanks Chips I was looking through and noticed a few trunk leak posts all un answered. Will try the US site.
  13. Blurry hell that timing belt job!! 2 hour job max on the Merc 450SEL, thread the chain onto the old one wind it through and join link - done! I'll be going to a proper mechanic for that I think!
  14. Still own T25 VW camper 1986. last car Volvo 340GL :) Mercedes 450 SEL 1978 Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9 1978 Cadillac Coupe de ville. 15. The LS400 I was researching, I bought it. Some small chips and tiny dents. 139+ thou. Main problem is the leak in the trunk! Any suggestions? I put talc all round and see it is leaking on the peak of the curve down on the near side. It runs down onto the nearside rib in the trunk then over into the spare tyre well and into the near side well. I await a CD manual in the post. I signed up for Gold. Any enthusiastic mechanical types in St.Ives Cambs. area. I am brave enough to have a go at the simpler aspects of maintenance. Timing belt change overdue - is it a difficult task? quoted £430 at dealer. Thats enough Q's for one post! By for now........
  16. What does the Warn % and the string of blue baxes next to my post detail mean? Am I a danger?
  17. I know I am new and impetuous and probably too wet behind the ears - (and, as they say, everything before the BUT is irrelevent) But check this site out as an example. www.dubdoctors.com Are there any whizz web hosters out there who could "knick" this format. As a resource it could be a joy for all when hunting for stuff wherever you end up! Because all the entries are provided by the user or the trader it is self-compiling. I guess there might need to be some moderation required? Even if a duff trader adds an entry there is the option for a customer star grading to temper any dodgy claims. Sadly I am nowhere near sussed enough for this. What do you think? Or does it exist already???
  18. I had had my '78 Mercedes 450 sel resprayed metalic silver. Got it home and next day a kid had parked his bike against the side and it fell over! Within a couple of days the other kids had bounced basket balls all over it and the nieghbour had placed and dragged a cardboard box of shopping on the trunk. The thing was a complete Elfin mess I was heartbroken, it just looked so abused.....never get over things like that. This was in a private compound and the owners managers kids were responsible. The owners just told me that I parked outside my own house at my own risk. If you don't like it move. So I did.......... Sorry to hear of any pointless damage and I add my sympathy. Then again - New Orleans puts it into perspective I suppose.
  19. Just a couple of little things. The AA do not do direct evaluations any more but go through a 3rd party. RAC are very keen but will not do a basic check on a vehicle over 6 years old. They will do a £308.00 all in. Less credit/hp check and inc. RAC member discount comes in at £246.00 (not exact - prices from memory) RE. Range of remote locking. If you hold the transmitter against your head, there is an amplification effect which increases the range. I am not joking. We tried it with a Cavalier in the car park, added about a third more to the range. Try it!
  20. Thanks NigelT How much are new wheels then? £250 to repair them against ? I would appreciate if you could post the details, then others can see the info too. Best regards.........
  21. The 97 P reg wheels are suffering from bubbling under the paint. I am surprised as every other aspect of the paintwork and presentation is faultless. Is there a refurb or exchange service on these by some shrewd feller? I ran a site search on every aspect of wheels but got no response!
