  1. Blank keys off ebay are fine, mate- the blades are a little long (meaning the key will stick out a bit more than the original key).

You can also get 2nd hand fobs off ebay as well- you just gotta keep a eye out.

There are instructions on the forum somewhere on how to program the keys- do a search and all will be revealed.

The blades are not always long. It depends on which one you buy.

  2. Hello Everyone,

My 2003 RX300 SE extended warranty expires in September. This means it has reached the 7 year period, but the car is way below the 140k mileage limit, but as my car has had the extended warranty with no gaps when the original manufactures 3 year warrnty ran out, the 140k limit does not apply. I have not spoken to Lexus yet in regards to possible "other" warranty options, or are they just going to show me the door ?

I suppose I may look at Warranty Direct if Lexus cannot extend theirs any further.

It has been an annual painful period when I have had to shell out the payment to Lexus for the Extended warranty, but it has been well worth it, as about two years ago I had problems with part of the engine and gearbox and it was fixed under the warranty, the bill would have been about £4k according to my Lexus dealer.

    Any advice/feedback would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    Bobby

As far as I am aware they (Lexus) do not offer warranties if the vehicle is 7yrs or over. You can get a warranty from Warranty Direct but I do not know how good they are compared to the Lexus extended warranty. I asked my local Lexus Service Manager to advise me on how good Warranty Direct's cover was but never got an opinion. Warranty Direct's premiums are about half that of Lexus' and you have a choice of whether you opt to have any works carried by Lexus or an Indepedant ie. if you opt for works being carried out by Lexus the premium is slightly higher. I think you can bargain hard with them as they qouted me over £300 for my IS200 but that subsequently came down to about £280 with any required works being done by Lexus. Of course the premium will be even lower if the works are not carried out by Lexus.

  3. HI Guys

Help. I just bought my IS200 its an 03 plate. The standard lex 6 cd player isnt working. I'm getting an 'Err 1' and 'Err 3' when I try to load and play a CD. Is this a standard problem? if so what can be done for it ?

    Thanks

Common problem which can be very costly to rectify. Someone on eBay advertises a repair service which costs around £220. If you bought from a dealer I would take it back for them to resolve.

  4. Having been told there is a four week waiting list for my wheels to be refurbed and powdercoated I thought I'd take my frustration out on the centre caps so they'd match the new colour alloys. This is the result (rained whilst I was getting the camera so a bit less shiny):

    Centre cap

It was fairly easy to do as the emblems can be prized off using a sharp knife or small screwdriver making it easy to lightly sand, prime and paint both parts of the cap in different colours. Once dry a small amount of glue on the underside of the emblem was all that was needed to fit the two parts back as they were. Looking forward to seeing how they look on the refurbed wheels when they're finally done.

I hope to do this myself. So it was quite easy?? As it seems that the emblem has a locating lug which is glued in. I hope to paint the cap in metallic silver and the emblem in blue to match the colour of my car.

  5. My IS220d recently failed while travelling the M69 at night. I limped to Leicestr Forest Services and an AA engineer determined a fault with the Particulate Filter, he stated that this is becoming a quite common fault. I was transported home and the car on to my dealer. Although I had lost an expensively pre-paid weekend, I slept compfortable in the knowledge that my car had been serviced to schedule by the main dealer and was covered by a Lexus Extended Warranty.

What a surprise when my dealer telephoned me with the cost of repair to be in the region of £1500, and that this was not covered by the warranty.

I have owned 5 Toyotas and this Lexus, all from new; the ones I keep after 3 years, I extend the warrenty for piece of mind!

Has anyboy else experience of Extended Warrenty claims or ways to resolve disputes?

    Dpe

Fortunately everything I have claimed for have been covered and the one occasion when it was not my dealer spoke to Lexus UK and because historically the car was having problems with the braking system Lexus UK agreed to supply the part(discs)free of charge and they were fitted free of charge by the dealer.

  6. My IS is on 18" alloys with 225/40 tyres, with standard suspension. when driving along good smooth roads the ride is fantastic. Stick it on country roads around Fife and I have a massive problem. The wheels are scraping on the arches, its a horrible noise to be hearing especially after putting two new front tyres on her. (Its also starting to effect the arches)

So now i ask for advise, what are my options!? how can i fix it without resorting to 17" alloys.

I'm thinking of putting coilovers on but i dont know whether these are going to solve my issues.

    Please help!

    Thanks

I have the same problem. 2003 IS on standard suspension running 225/40/18's and the offside front tyre is rubbing on the wheel arch lining but only on full lock.

  7. They're about £90 from camskill (plus maybe £10 to get them fitted). Actually WIM are a vredestein dealer now I think so worth asking them too :)

Ok but I will try my local tyre shop in Turnpike Lane as I got a cracking deal on my Goodyear Eagle F1's last time round.

You sound quite local to me then! :whistling:

I usually go to Protyre in Enfield who are pretty decent on prices and they have a really nice garage where I know my wheels are in safe hands :)

We recently had contact via PM. I am in Palmers Green.
