  1. Been on this forum a while mainly just read.. Been watching a few threads lately and thought I would show where I am at with my car and the conversion now. Firstly I own a parts and mod shop in Sydney so all the work has been done by myself, except the engine rebuild which was done by a friend as I am no mechanic I just build cars.. Anyway this is what the car used to look like before I pulled it off the road for the conversion.. Car This is the old motor.. It made really good power around 400hp@18psi with plenty more if I would of went external gate as I had boost leakage problems.. But I sold the motor and driveline as is for $7000 Old motor I had all the holes and seems welded and filled in the engine bay and a fresh coat of gloss paint Engine bay before during and after Getrag Box In the car with clutch after all the needed shift mods (to locate it in the right spot) I run a tilton triple plate carbon clutch and alloy flywheel which together weigh 4.5kg I wasn't going to fit new seat but came up with a bargin (I love EBAY) and found these I had them retrimmed to match the back Interior Carbon back Since I own a spare parts and fab shop things came cheaper than most ppl could get them so motor parts and work was the easy thing. I have gone for the show and go look and motor has endless detail.. Anything that is alloy has been polished all the way to the engine mounts.. Motor after its first trial fit. (thanks to Monster Matt for taking the time to give me some of his measurements, appreciated mate) I have ran into a few problems (teething) the turbo was to big and hit the strut tower so I had to mod the greddy manifold. I also had to mod the waste gate as it hit the steering. Its all in and looks great. polished Engine mounts Motor as sitting in the car waiting for the turbo to come back from the ceramic coaters. I upgraded the brakes as well for the occasion. Front brakes are 365mm with alcon 6 pot calipers which I polished. Rear brakes are 345mm with alocn 4 pot calipers which are also polished. Greddy rear strut brace In the car Radiator and intercooler fitted These are the new wheels. They are second hand as I swapped for an old stocker motor I had laying around. They have old white wall tyres on them at the moment but will be changed before it hits the road. The rear will get new inner and outter rims once I sort out the tubs but you get the picture Front are 19x8 with 235 rubber And rear will be 19 x 8 with 315 or 325 rubber Finally got the turbo back form the coaters.. Its had the V band fitted to the back of the housing and polished so its smooth as the front then coated in ceramic to keep the heat in Fitted the coils. Made up some brackets so they dont touch anywhere so there is plenty of air around them for cooling. Bit tricky getting the leads on but worth them being hidden in the end.. here are just a few shots of it with the turbo all on.. Still need a few mods to the front of the turbo ( 90deg bend) The breathers out the top of each rocker cover will go back to a custom alloy catch can in the passenger side corner of the engine bay where the wires are. The can will cover both the ECU and CDI I have only made a little progress from here but I will post up sopme more pics when they come. :)
  2. Very nice EllZ, Those coilovers look fantastic.. With your shifter check the bolts are tight and if you didnt, use a little loctite on the threads. And as Bazza said just drill and tap the catch can.. Nice ride.. :)
  3. In the UK.. actually finland isnt in the uk :winky: Sorry I didnt know where he was from since this is a UK based forum.. I will be more direct with my responces next time. Let me rephrase it for you then.. Not the 1st :winky:
  4. In the UK.. The J160 should be good for around 400-450. Dont worry about the tranny, It will hold up..Mine only got stuck in gear once and after years of driving and I think that was due to a crappy gear change. And I didnt drive like a granny either. I sold the gearbox with the motor and the box was perfect. . I have seen sprinters with the same box with more power.. And they are used as drift cars.. This is not saying your box will stand up to slicks and a decent launch at the track.. Although I have seen and witnessed many cars that have.. I am saying it will stand up to what you dish out on the road and everyday use. My car made a fraction under 400HP at the flywheel @ 18psi before I sold it the motor to make room for the current set up :D (Waste gate didnt allow me to boost any higher and I then sold it before I fixed it.) Motor was good for 450-500hp once sorted. I bet your looking forward to getting the car back together and having a drive.. Nice work.
  5. Why go to the added expense of buying a turbo with an IG and then an extra waste gate when it would of been alot cheaper to fit a flange plate to the manifold..?? For less than half the cost of the extra gate any exhaust shop would have TIGed a flange on the manifold. Especially since the manifold was off the car and cost doesn't look like an issue since he went with a HKS turbo.. We both know it will work with the gate closed but thats just another way for it to leak.(another weak point) There are plenty other good turbos out there that would suit his needs Garrett, Trust just to name a few. Expensive HKS turbo with IG and an extra WG at least the person that sold it to him made a good sale that day :)
  6. Hi Obsessed, Is your car the oine with the 1JZ-GTE??? I think I have read about yours??? I am using the standard IS200 rubber mounts. I was gonna buy the IS300 sump but opted just to modify the GS300 one that I bought from a breakers yard. (Pics below) I didn't realise Ray wasn't the founder of Autronic. I have obviously got my info mixed up somewhere . It is known that he is a bit of a genius as far as these things go though. To start I will be running my standard IS200 diff but I will prob source an IS300 one later down the line. Cheers for the comments anyway buddy!! :D Ray Hall is a very smart man no doubt about that. He is more than willing to help ppl out as well which is only more credit to him. I have fitted a 2JZ into a black IS. Nothing special, but I definitely know how much fun you are having right now pieceing it all together. Its looking good and your putting a good thread together. keep it up..
  7. Coming alone nicely. And quite quickly as well.. Did you use the original IS200 rubbers or the IS300 rubbers(enigne mount rubbers) I used 300 and didn't need to machine anything.. The IS300 sump also fits. Same block.. I also used 2 x inlet side brackets but it depends on the the year of the block. Later model blocks you can use both IN and EX IS300 mounts (US forum is very helpful) Matt also helped with a few sticky points (thanks again for the measurements, You end up getting that manifold?) Sorry Hi-jack :shutit: Also not trying to be sound like a ****** but Ray Hall is not the founder his just one of the distributors for Autronic, Richard Autron is the man behind the ECU.. It surley is coming alone at a steady rate.. What diff will you be running? Standard or IS300 (something else?) Definitely be watching your progress.
  8. 1 kW = 1,34 BHP (1 BHP = 0,746 KW) Well it is actually 1.341 and there is no need for the Bhp as 1kw = 1.341HP Hope everyone has a Happy new year :)
  9. Do you guys use Dyno-jet or Dyno-dynamics over there in the UK? Because the readings are different.. A dyno-jet dyno will give a higher reading than a Dyno-dynamics.. We use Dyno-dynamics here in Australia and they run both in the states.. KW x 1.34 = HP Thats a nice polishing job.. Would of been more efficent if you had it ceramic coated (to help keep under bonnet temp down) You can get some great colours now ( glosses and a chrome look) The polish will loose its shine and radiate heat specially from the exhaust Its also a great idea on the turbine housing to keep heat down and looks a heap better than a heat blanket. For the 3lt I have even had all the intercooler piping and dump pipe done.. Looks great.. Doesn't flake or loose its shine. Maybe after you weld it.. I can show you some pics of a few jobs we have done if you want?
  10. The IS300 and the N/A supra use the same engine (2JZ-GE) the N/A heads have round ports, but the turbo'd supra has a different head with oval/square ports (2JZ-GTE) blocks are the same. Thats a nice manifold though, just by looking on here it must miss by a bee's knee.
  11. This is the same car so both ad77 and gs were on the same track.. There is a few people in sydney that would do the work that I know of but she is on the other side of the island.. Any DECENT workshop would be able to do the conversion.. Edit * she..
  12. No excuses.. Scrapped the tar from the tank today and it is fact (metal) underneath I wasn't even drinking when I looked the first time..
  13. That suggests I run 710cc injectors at 80% duty, and 750cc with 75% duty.. That calculator should have a fuel pressure regulator on it. Crazy stuff....
  14. I will look up the sard pump for its flow.. Thanks.. The return on the filler neck also seems like a good option as long as the return flow doesn't get in the way of the brether.. I will post pics of the tank as soon as the car is back here.. I do not know if they have changed or I am mistaken.. I will humblely eat my words if I am wrong.. But It surely does look like plastic..
  15. I did not think of running it up there, What size pump are you running gs.. Is it high up the neck and does it interfere with the breather?
  16. <!--QuoteBegin-Monster-Mat+Dec 1 2005, 07:34 AM the lexus fuel tank is metal. and its quite easy to run a fuel return, there is a fuel pump body available in Japan that has a fuel return union built into the head We have all had a look at the tank and it is very much plastic.. Hard plastic but never the less plastic.. Anyone else with a 99 IS200? Did not know about the fuel pump.. Do you know what the rating is by any chance or any other info would be great...
  17. Powerflow injectors.. Sydney Australia (612) I think thats the country code 96094615 No sorry, the other injectors are not the right ones as they foul on the head.. Lexus need a smaller bodied injector for clearance. MR SINGH-- How you going.. more turbo charged cars here..Besides I have meet a coulpe of nice people here (You included of course) :) My car did only make 335bhp at the wheels on 15 psi(1.1 bar) but I still have atleast another 10 psi to stuff in there and more with better fuel once the waste gate is sorted so I think it will be a wee bit more.. I'm getting confused as some of you refer to BHP at the fly and BHP at the hubs.. I was under the impression Horsepower (hp) was at the fly and Brake Horse Power (bhp) was at the wheels.. So does that mean I can say I have 402bhp?? This is not a cheeky comment, I am unfamiliar with the way you show your HP figures. Fever---HAHAHAHA You make me laugh.. Bazza.. Yeah thats right it is.. And it seems to me you know what you are talking about.. My constant fuel pressure is 45psi..(3.2)BAr Which is good... A return line is a big job and so are larger fuel lines because the lexus run a plastic fuel tank and fittings. Sure you can plastic weld the tank and hope it doesn't leak or you can run a catch can with a return running to it.. (where do you put this in a luxury car so you dont smell fuel)So in order to run a return its a very big and fiddley job, so the reg is in the tank is a pain to get around.. As you said it can be done but 45psi(3.2) bar fuel pressure is fine(recommended pressure) so I used larger injectors.. Lexus do not have the best fuel system for upgrades.. For the 3lt I have gone with a custom alloy tank because of these dramas. Some people think upping the pressure is the answer, Its not. It just makes me laugh that some people have a go at others or jump on a band wagon when they dont know whats going on.. It doesn't matter how good your motor is if you cant get the right amount of fuel to it, its not going to make the power.. Maybe we could start another thread (about fuel systems)to see what people have and haven't TRIED so we can all work out what works and dont work.. No try this and try that if you dont know.. P.s I pick turbo charged.. :D
  18. HMMM That's really ****** up.. It doesn't actually say in your post but I'm assuming your insured? Hope it all works out..
  19. Good informative thread. Your really have got stuck into removing excess weight... Where do you plan on fitting the fuel cell, the boot or are you planning to mount it where the rear seat used to be?? I did read were you said that wasn't the manifold you intend on using which was for an internal waste gate.. Is that what you will be running?
  20. The only reason we have not gone past 335 at he wheels is becuase the Interal waste gate is not holding boost past 15psi. We are in the middle of a turbo swap.. So dont worry the injectors haven't started working yet.. :winky: This guy OBVIOUSLY knows what his talking about... I am willing to compare power figures with you so I can see where I am going wrong. Your right stainless steel Sorry for getting off track.. And wrecking what was a good thread. (hope it can be amended) About the abuse, I'm sorry I called him an idiot as I definity can think of other words to discribe him. Besides only the new comers get in trouble for abusing
  21. [I never said "to use small injectors no matter how many HP you want to go". I believe you wrote.. With 440cc injects and the correct fuel system setup the engine should produce more power than the transmission can ever take. So does this mean my transmission will not handle more than 300hp professor?? It's limited of course, but it seems you don't have an idea of tuning cars, oherwise you would know all that. I believe I said Why limit or risk your motor? Sounds like your coming around.. You would know the answer when you would have any little idea of tuning cars. HAHAHAHA Obviously you cant even read between the lines.. I was being sarcastic... Why would I want your help. How much power did your car have Mr professor?? Your injectors were most probably to small.. :P If I dont know how to tune cars It surly shows with my 2lt.. :winky: But yet your giving backyard advice which will shorten the life of injectors and seals. Its a short fix that will give no long term remedy especially when they are maxed out at half boost.. Your now saying 250-300 is enough to change injectors..Stop contradicting yourself. If you read my first post I said I had 335 at the wheels at only half boost. You're offtopic all the time and never tell me why I shouldn't get more HP on turbo cars when raising FP?!? We are not talking about other peoples cars, you were talking about MY car which was maxed out at half boost and MY choice of injectors. So who is off topic?? Uping the fuel pressure will not help me. And my choice of bigger injectors obviously worked and is going to be able to supply enough fuel at higher boost and power levels which will be well over 300 at the wheels. Sounds like you have a great knowledge of motor cars and love to share it on the internet.. As I said we can compare power figures later. :winky: You should stop worrying about my choice of injectors which was the right, and worrying about looking like an idiot.. Mr internet mechanic. I wonder how much other bad advice you have given people or have they just (learned) to ignore you as I should have in the first place. And I call myself Obsessed because I have a clothing label under that name :D
  22. learned physics.. learnt english? You should open your own mechanical workshop.... Your great at pyhsics, your car must fly :D All these pro engine builders fitting large injectors to big HP cars need to speak with you.. I'll tune my car and you tune your car. But thanks for the advice I was going to buy new cams so it rev'd harder but now after talking to you I might just buy smaller profile tyres. :winky:
  23. Most forums are. It seems to be a big waste of time with most people.. I'm just happy to be able to talk to others with turbo charged cars as they are not very popular here in oz. I'm hoping to learn a few little tricks that you guys might have worked out.
  24. Tell me your being funny???? Higher fuel pressure on same injector size= more fuel.. what breakfast cereal pack did you read that on?? (I wonder why they sell different size injectors then?) Please tell me you understand that no matter how much fuel pressure you pump into a fuel rail the injectors can only flow what they are capable of.. Once again, if the fuel pressure and reg are fine but the engine is still not getting enough fuel.(on max duty) It must be because the injectors are not providing enough fuel.. as you put it :duh: Not only is to small of an injector on a built motor limiting your power its risking your motor due to running lean. (please dont say you can up the fuel pressure) :shutit: ---> My car made more power on the same boost with bigger injectors and now has plenty of fuel for higher boost.. ---> The smaller injectors were maxed out. So if you still dont understand why I put bigger injectors in my car I dont want to get into a debate as I'm sure it will be a waste of time. P.s I'm sorry to everyone for getting off track but I still pick turbo :winky:
