  1. You can add intellistart to a clifford alarm, I used to have one on a previous car. It is pretty nice to have the car warmed up before you get in but I think Lexus don't recommend letting the engine idle to warm up...
  2. I've gone gold too, worth it for the discount on servicing alone!!!
  3. I'm with admiral for my IS300. 26, 8 years NCB, no points or convictions and I'm married but I live in Northern Ireland so it's £850.
  4. Yeah £350 for each one, I think the bearing is about £70, so there must be quite a lot of work in changing one... Or they are taking the *****!!!
  5. Had my car serviced on Monday and they said the noise was a bearing, seems like both the front ones need replaced, I also need new discs and pads on the front... I think I'll try the discs myself, dealer quoted about 350quid my I've changed discs before so I think I'll save a few quid and have a go... Not sure what to do about the bearings, I had a warranty on my last car and I have transferred it over, it will cover new brearings in 90 days. So I'll try and wait it out, quoted £350 for each one!!
  6. My 2001 Is300 makes a strange noise that sounds similar, I'm not sure what it is either but I'm taking the car to get it serviced tomorrow. I'll let you know if they work out what it is...
  7. You can buy a TV tuner for the mac and use it as a PVR, I have one... but no front row as I'm still on a G4 machine... I'm no expert on Apples financials but I believe their profits and share price started rising when steve jobs retured they were making money before the iPod arrived but they are making more now... If anyone is considering an Apple machine try it out for yourself and you will see what every one is taking about. I thought they were crap until I tried one 18 months ago and I wouldn't even consider a PC now.
  8. I would probably try and run the amp and sub off the standard head unit, I don't think that after market head units look that good in the IS dash... I'm pretty sure I have seen posts on the forum about finding a pre out from the standard unit. But if you don't know what you are doing I would take it to someone who does, there are several good car audio places in Northern Ireland.
  9. Apple Mac all the way :D I used to build my PC's then bought an Apple Powerbook 17" last year and havn't looked back since. I've also bought a mac mini (G4 version so I'm due an upgrade) I love Mac OS is beats win XP on just about everything apart from playing games... The bundled software is also great (iLife apps etc) I see people saying that they are vastly over priced but I don't agree, yes I think they are slightly more expensive than a Dell for example but the build quality and design are far superior.
  10. I got the battery changed to a 6DA and it fits perfectly... Car seems to be starting slightly quicker now, hopefully I don't have any more problems.
  11. The place I got the batter from looked it up the bosch catalogue, they gave me the one listed for the IS300 a Bosch Asia Silver 9BA (dimensions 306 173 225). The one listed for the IS200 is a 6DA (dimensions 232 173 225). There is no way a 306mm battery is going to fit in the tray provided, the existing battery is about 230 mm. So I'm going to try the one listed for the 200. I also check with halfords they list exactly the same battery for the 200 & 300...
  12. I tested the voltages on the battery.. Engine off 12.1 Engine on 13.8 or something like that so the voltages would indicate the alt is ok, right? The water levels seem to be ok in the battery but I think I'll change it early next week can't hurt. It's hard to see the starter I think it sits on the right hand side of the engine near the front of the engine bay. If it's sticking you just hit it a whack don't you? Until to finally decide to replace it! How does the starter earth? There is an earth from the battery to the car body and engine block and the starter is on a bracket or something on the engine block and that's how it earths? I think thats whats going on but it's hard to see with out stripping down a bit. Cheers, Richard.
  13. Yeah I did a few searches and it seems the clicking nnoise can come from a flat battery. The car is 5 years old and it looks like it's still on the original battery, so it's probably due a change. I tried to get a new battery this morning but the one they gave me was the wrong size :duh: I'll change it on monday and see how I get on. Cheers.
  14. Hi, Has anyone else had trouble with their starter on an IS? This evening I had driven around doing a few things, stopped for petrol and then parked the car to make a phone call. About 15 minutes later tried to start the car... It made a clicking noise, I guess like a relay flicking but the car didn't make any attempt to turn over... It this just a sticky starter? I was on my way to a friends for dinner so I left the car in the car park for about 2 hours came back and it started first time... Just a bit worried now that I can't trust the car to start if I'm out and about anywhere. Any got any advice? Cheers.
  15. So it's not really a diy job unless you have a hydraulic press... The car needs a service I'll price it with lexus and see how it goes...
  16. Hi gsportscars, Did you manage to fix your wheel bearing, I think my IS300 needs one I'm getting the noise form the front drivers side wheel but there is no play that I can detect in the wheel yet. Could this be something else? How do you press the bearing in and out, do you need a special tool for this? Cheers.
  17. Yep the car does have xenons, the picture was taken with only the sidelights on. The picture looked a bit wierd with the xenons on... I'll have to check with lexus would they do anything about the bumper if the car is out of warranty?? The car has been through an MOT over here but perhaps the MOT guys just didn't look that hard...
  18. Cheers, The car is in pretty good shape 47k on the clock, there are a few marks on the front bumper and a couple of stone chips but nothing major. Interior is great shape too! But I think it needs a wheel bearing :-(
  19. 26 my first lexus, previous car history... Vauxhall Nova - Saloon! Peugeot 306 - also a saloon... VW Lupo BMW 528 Audi A2
  20. No not, yet i started to clean the car on sunday but by the time I was finished is was bucketing with rain! I want to give it a proper clean before I take photos. I use swissol wash/wax etc and I need to clean off all the tar and grubby bits before waxing, hopefully the rain stays off this weekend. Hi ScarFace, I noticed the wheels in your sig and pictures, are they are TTE chicanes? Where can you get them and whats the typical price? Cheers.
  21. I'll have to check out the Gold membership, car is due a service soon, I'll have to contact Lexus in Belfast and see if they give any discount to gold members...
  22. I've just bought an IS300 and I only got one key, the grey valet one... The local dealer said that it was impossible to add more keys without the master. I called a local locksmith/keycutter place and they said that they could add more keys with their software but only on IS300's from 2002 on (mine is 2001). They did say that they may be able to clone the valet key so that I at least have two keys. Does anyone know what the difference is between the master and valet keys? I can't open the boot with the actual key part on the valet... Cheers, Richard.
