  2. I've a manual IS250 and it has a snow button. I'd assumed that it affected the traction control, but had thought that it would probably make the traction control more sentative, not less. The traction control allows some wheel slippage normally (presumably for entertainment purposes). Surely in the snow you'd want it to allow less slippage, so you got maximum traction, and maximum acceleration. Allow more slippage is only going to allow the rear end to slide out of line, and make it more difficult to get moveing surely?
  3. Have you got a spare key fob? Does that work any better?
  4. Ok Thanks :) Not quite what I'd call a "Windshield de-icer"
  5. Buzz, So is it the case in your IS the same as mine.....this 'heater' does nothing to remove the ice from the windscreen, other than to unstick the wiper blades? No, the rear screen heater makes no difference. Thanks for the replies :)
  6. Hi Tango, Yes, it was turned on. A little light on the switch confirms it's turned on, and it only stays on for 15 minutes. Colm
  7. John, I think you have the heating on "Auto". When you notice the cold air, you will see that the display shows arrows showing that the "heat" is not being delivered to your face as well as feet. What is happening here, is that your car realises that the upper part of the cabin has a temperature higher than the set level and the lower part of the cabin still needs heating (because the hot air rises). So it pumps cold air to the top of the cabin and warm air to your feet for a minute. There are only two ways to stop it. 1. Don't use the auto mode, so that you can select only your feet. 2. Close those airvents with the slider beside the airvent. An alternative (which is what I've done) is simply point the vents in a different direction, so the car can manage the temperature like it's trying to do, without me getting a blast of cold air in my face every so often! I hope that helps!
  8. Two quick questions. First, in the current brochure (at least here in Ireland) Lexus features include something along the lines of "Windshield de-icer". I don't have the brochure to hand, so don't have the exact wording. I assumed that this was the heated wipers.......meaning that the wipers get heated up, and then melt the ice on the windscreen. I see it is described rather differently in the manual, saying that the, windscreen located, heating pads are simply to stop the wiper blades freezing on to the windscreen. So we had a light frost the other night, and I got to try out the heated wiper blades that morning. The ice on the windscreen was pretty light. The heating of the windscreen wipers didn't seem to make any difference whatsoever. After a few minutes, I revered, and simply turned the heater to the windscreen, and it cleared it in less than a minute (so was very light). Now my question is does the heated wipers make any difference on other IS250's? At least then I'll know if mine aren't working right, or if they are simply useless Second question relates to radio reception. The reception on my radio often becomes crackly when I'm in an area that should be well covered by the transmission. In my previous Toyota, I'd no problem in these areas (I know because it's on the route I drive to work/home again each day, and never had a problem before). I'm wondering is this simply a product of the antenna being built into the rear windscreen rather than a normal rooftop antenna, or is there something wrong? Has anyone else noticed a lower quality radio reception? (AF & REG are both turned on, so it's not as if there is a better frequency available.) Colm
  9. Thanks guys. Apparently they are in the middle of changing over computer systems, and there will be a slight delay in issuing details to new members (delay wasn't quantified....just hoping to have it done soon). No diary yet....doubt it will be replacing my pda though ;) Don't play golf.....but I'm sure I can find someone who'll enjoy a free round......will I have to lend them the Lexus for the day?? Colm
  10. I haven't actually used mine, but it looks like a standard 3.5mm mini jack......the same connection that headphones use. So you need a cable with a standard headphone connection on one end, and whatever headphone connection fits your mp3 player (probably a standard one too) on the other end.
  11. I tried to sign up for Lexus Privilege from the lexus.ie (Irish) website on the 2nd Jan (Tuesday), after getting my new IS. It said that I would get a response within 24 hours. I'd heard nothing by that Friday, so telephoned Lexus ....the number from the website for those having difficulty signing up. A nice lady took my details and promised to sort it out and call me back. It's now a week later, and I still haven't heard anything. Is this worth following up? Is there any real advantage by signing up for the Lexus Privilege, or am I chasing up something that is pointless in having? Colm
  12. I forgot to say, that no....the rubber boot mat is not standard......well...I didn't get one with my base model IS250, and it's not listed in the standard features.
  13. Thanks guys. I'm obviously missing the main manual then......the quick quide did seem a bit light weight! I don't want to say the name of the dealer on the forum, as so far I'm quite happy with them. The handover was well done, but it didn't involve checking each manual was there. I thought the footwell lighting just wasn't as obvious ones I was in the car, because I was driving/seating position. I hadn't realise that it actually darkened! That makes a lot more sense now thanks. Thanks for all the info guys. Can anyone help me on number 3? Do your doors auto lock when you pull away, and unlock after turning the ignition off? Perhaps the full owners manual will have a more comprehensive list of presonalisation options which will include this!
  14. Hi, I've taken delivery of my new IS250, and I've a couple of little questions that I'm sure you guys can answer for me! 1. The manuals that I got with the car were a) Quick Guide b ) Warrenty & maintenance c) Lexus Assist Guide. Should there be a more detailed manual? The quick guide seems very much like an introduction rather than a full manual. 2. Footwell lighting. I love this, but it stays on even after the doors has shut, and the car has started to move. Is this normal? It would just seem like they should go off when the car doors close.....just checking :) 3. Personalised settings. I noticed in the manuals linked to on this website, that there is a whole range of personalised settings. One that I would really like is for the doors to lock as the car drives off, and for them to unlock once the car has stopped (this is a manual transmittion). In the on-line manual that is listed as the default position. That doesn't happen on my car, and there is no such option listed in the personalised settings quick guide. Are the personalised settings which are available, country dependent? Thanks guys.
  15. Thanks a mill Dave. Much appreciated.
  16. I know I saw the IS250 owners manual online somewhere, and I'm convinced that it was on this site! Someone had uploaded the document as a series of pdf files, but despite an exhaustive search here, I can't seem to find it. Anyone know where I can find it? Thanks
  17. Sounds to me like a problem with the driver, rather than the car. There is NO WAY you should have made it to 4th gear in a 0-60 dash. Probably should have never left 2nd gear. Definately no way to make it to 4th gear before 60 mph.
  18. Can the standard cd system (Not the ML system) in the Lexis IS250 play music recorded onto a DVD? Just wondering if it's possible to record a couple of albums onto a DVD and play them without converting to MP3/WMA, as I don't want to reduce the quality?
