  1. More used models available tend to push the price lower.

    Absolutely 100% correct.......

and consequently, that means there is less margin for the dealer to play with.

Are we talking about defined market prices, or a dealer's ability to discount? I think that may be where we're getting confused!?

-Market prices will be lower with greater number of cars, and discount will be less due to lower margins.

-Market prices will be higher with fewer cars, and discounts will be more due to (possibly) higher margins

-eminating from the original greater value of the market price.

    I hope I made sense there !?!

  2. Nick,

Thanks very much !! I spotted the car, the following day my Dad was working in Worcester (I live in Kent) so he went in and made the offer with me on the phone (I'd driven loads of IS' so it was just the condition of the car which was an issue)........£500 deposit later the car's mine (and arrives tomorrow as I say!)

For the benefit of others, I bought a 2000W IS200sport in granite sky with 41.5k on the clock from a main dealer (Lexus Worcester)....and as I say, it was up for £14k, and I bought for £13.5k (quite chuffed with that price - you compare it to others on the lexus.co.uk site and it's a grand cheaper of similar examples).

Actually, when i rang the dealers who I had also looking for cars for me to say I'd bought one (so thank you very much, type phone call) and told them what I bought, they all said "wow, good price, we wouldn't have been able to beat that"........so was a bit lucky it seems :)

    Thanks again for the comments,

(oh, and sorry to jump in on the post :alien: !!!)

  3. I'd be surprised if you could get an IS knocked down by that much to be honest.

I've literally just bought a used IS200sport from a dealer (it arrives tomorrow). I spent about 4months looking for one, and about 1 month actually in a position (i.e. with money) to buy one. During that month I walked away from maybe 3 or 4 cars because the dealer would not go low enough on price.

I just bought a car that was up for £14k, and I paid £13.5k, and that took some REAL arm bending. I frequently offered £1k less to many different dealers, and NONE of them were prepared to look at my offer, let alone talk about it. On used IS' they really dont have much room. On other models.......GS' for example, they have more room to move as there's not so many of them.

Just my experience anyhow - hopefully you may be able to do better as it's an auto (like the GS vs IS, there's fewer autos than manuals) so my fingers are crossed for you !!

    Good luck :)

  4. there was a post above about the current-sensing route to turn off the closure/opening. Problem is if (as you say) it needs more current for some reason (ice/friction/stone in way etc. etc.) then it would stop closing it but it will still be open.

(I think I understood that correctly, however, I do exclaim here and now that I know absolutely NOTHING about electronics, so feel free to correct me over and over again anyone!!!)

  5. Hi guys,

I dont have my lexus yet (should be tomorrow at earliest, thursday at latest !!!!) but I'm just curious about the automatic headlights.

I test drove one and went under a bridge and the lights came on (they were switched to auto) ....it was slow moving traffic, maybe 15mph.

was wondering if the reverse will happen: if at night and the lights are on, and i go into a well lit area (streetlights or lots of cars, or lots of shops that sort of thing) will the lights turn themselves off, even though it's still dark?

    just a thought

    thanks

    Tony

  6. bit of a tip here, though I do take this experience from real standard type cars but with real performance engines (so dont know if it makes a difference for climate controlled cars) but......

the 1st minute or two that you are warming up the car (maybe even 3 or 4 mins on some) have the heater controls on 100% COLD...sounds odd, but otherwise the limited heat that there is will be pushed into the cabin, and so the engine will take longer to warm up. With the heater on cold, all heat is left in the engine bay/radiator etc, and so the engine will warm up quicker.

As I say, dont know whether this is true on modern cars, but it certainly works on older performance cars I've had/experienced!!

What I intend to do when I get my lexus......on cold for a few mins to heat engine up, all the while heated seat on so I dont feel cold :)

  7. Sorry, I didn't explain myself very well!

Lepsons are an actual alloy wheel refurbisher. They're not a car dealer or anything, solely an alloy refurbisher. I know many people who have had their wheels done there and I have never heard anything but 100% positive.

What I meant about dealers was ..... did the quote for £300-400 you get come from, for example, a lexus main dealer? You could expect them to charge alot more than "regular" prices because of the way they have to work.

At only £160-£180 for a set (obviously fully balanced and valved once again) it could make the alloys you're selling be worth £200 more......so it's beneficial to you!!!

Also guys, something worth considering, when you get wheels refurbished you can obviously change the colour. Anthracite wheels on SOME colours could look REALLY nice.

Oh, ps, unforuntately I dont know of anyone, or had any experience of, the two companies you mentioned.

  8. My original 17"ers are quite corroded as they were part of the early unlaquered set, so are in need of refurbing. I know this'll cost me about £300-£400.

    no no no !!!

the best wheel refurbishers charge maximum £50 a wheel !!!

is that price through a main dealer?

I have had 2 sets of wheels (not lexus car) refurbed at Lepsons in Gillingham, Kent.......£45/wheel, and they came out PERFECT. HIGHLY recommend them.

Hope that makes your choice a bit easier !

  9. The only thing that may change with regard to pressure between manufacturers would be the maximum allowable pressure (which is somewhat un-important to the likes of you and I).

I haven't got my lexus yet (only just joined this board) but 34psi doesn't sound TOO extreme. I was running 32psi on 235/40/17's on my last car (high performance/speed orientated) and that seemed fine. The lexus is probably slightly heavier though, so I dont think 34psi seems excessive.

I'm only saying by experience though.....someone with a far better technical knowledge may be able to offer different advice?

  10. I think, being a senior citizen ( over 60) that I am one of the eldest.

Unsure......but I think I may be at the total OTHER end of the scale - I'm 22.

I know what it's like with the names of one and all......I used to be (actually still am, but just dont own the car) in the RS Owners Club, so went to shows/meets etc. One year someone took the bright idea of making RSOC T-shirts, and having everybody's board name embroidered onto the shirt. Made life SO much easier!! That's partly why my board name's tony_hetherington........you all know what my name is!!

Hopefully (fingers crossed) I shall be at the meet.....would be good to meet you all, including a craig-david look alike!

  11. I cant wait to pick it up!!!

I may well come along to the Brooklands meeting......be good to meet some of you guys!!

I'll be easy to spot........22yr old looking all alone and like he doesn't know anybody, with a granite sky IS200sport and number plate A TONY H (A10 NYH).

Not signed up yet - but may well do in next few days.

Thanks for your comments guys - I'm well chuffed, and have an almighty great grin on my face...... :D .......see!!!

  12. Hi all

Well....all those months ago I came here bugging you guys for information on used IS200's, where to look, where to go etc. etc........

and yesterday I finally made an offer and it was accepted on a car!

From Lexus Worcester, I bought a 2000W IS200sport in granite sky, with 41k on the clock for £13.5k. (no Sat Nav - I took the decision to not get it because it was limiting my choices too much, and I was too hopeful of the mileage for the money I have to spend).

The car is in very good condition (as you'd expect from a Lexus dealer), however there had been a car phone holder attached to the dash so there's two holes and marks on the side. SO.....I said if they sort that I'll buy the car. They're sorting it!! So, essentially, the car's as perfect as you could imagine.

I'm well chuffed with the buy !

Earliest I'll get the car is Saturday, in which case I'd pick it up (I live in Kent so bit of a trek), but if it's not ready by then then they'll deliver for me mon/tues next week.

Want to say a big thank you to all of you aswell for your help, information, and comments to help me buy my car !!

Here's to many happy years of Lexus motoring I guess :)

    Thanks again

    Tony
