  1. I have my new wheels now 18" sport wheels, look amazing. The speed indicated by the sat nav is now "normal" I would say i.e. at 80 I am doing 77 mph. So the extra 4 inches has sorted the speedo differential which was nearly 10%. My car is now 3 months old with 4500 miles on the clock averaged 40 mpg and no rattles yet. I am v. v. pleased with it. My only gripe was really the 16" wheels which even though an improvement on the IS200 base model still don't really suit the car. I didn't want leather seats basically if you're wondering why I didn't go for the SE. I would think the mpg may go down a bit now but to be honest the 5th gear has now got longer legs so I don't use 6th as much which should improve the mpg as it can labour a bit especially with cruise on.
  2. I have seen a number of you uploadning pictures of your Lexus, how do you do this. I've tried to insert image but it asks for a URL? Is this a feature that needs to be turned on? ;)
  3. Tel which Lexus dealer do you recommend as I live in derby and there is a new dealer in town. Thought I might try it.
  4. I still think nearly 10% differentuial is too large and wonder if lexus could recalibrate the speedo, Will ask at the first service. I am getting some 18" wheels as they look so much better. it's not who you know, but what you know about who you know.
  5. Thanks jamboo I knew I could rely on you for a great answer and even an old thread that started last year. By the way your famous last words about not having a ticket in 9 years, is it still holding up? I might look at replacing my 16" with 18" if there is so much margin, what do you think?
  6. You must be talking about the built in lexus Sat Nav, but if you can calibrate the Sat Nav just for tyres I don't see what relationship the tyres have with the Sat Nav speed unless it uses them to wheel revolutions and not the satellites.
  7. I've not posted for a while and maybe this is a the wrong time to start this thread when we are all trying to do more than 20mph in the snow but has anybody checked the speedometer against a Sat Nav? I have no idea whether the in built Sat Nav has a car speed function but I have 2 sat Navs and Tom Tom on my PDA and a Sony. Both have this function. I would say with 8 sats reading the speed would be pretty accurate on a level road. I have always tested my cars and my previous car (Saab93 TDi) would have 80mph on the speedometer and 77mph on the sat nav same with my wifes Merc C200. I tested my IS250d and at 80mph on the speedometer the Sat Nav read 73mph. Firstly has anybody else "tested" their speedos and if so what readings have you got and do you think its because I have the 220d with 16" wheels and Lexus haven't bothered to recalibrate the speedo. I doubt this but it is a worry as it will make the odoemeter and mpg readings wrong as well. If nobody else has noticed then I will take it in to my garage and have larger wheels fitted under warranty! However the car is great and hardly believe it cost me less than my IS200 7 years ago which I kept for 4 1/2 years. No rattles........yet.
  8. I just posted on another thread that my 220d takes ages to warm up now we are freezing and revs at 1200 rpm at stand still. Strangely enough the revs go down to 750 rpm (coasting) until I am at a standstill again, as soon as the wheels stop turning the revs go up to 1200 rpm. Weird but must be designed to do that. Once the engine is fully warm the revs settle at 750, has anybody else noticed this? By the way had the car 1 month old now, done about 2000 mile and averaged 41mpg. Not bad should improve once the car loosens up I think. No rattles, she is a beauty for the price can't fault her. Sorry to hear everyones rattles and noises, I am now paranoid about listening out for them. The car is very quiet which I think makes rattles even worse.
  9. I've noticed now its v cold that the engine (diesel0 tale s a lot longer to warm up and as RSCV daz says the engine idles quite high until it is fully warmed up. Not sure whether you have noticed but it only revs high when you are stationery if you take you foot off the break and coast a bit the revs go down to normal level. I think it must be an anti stall device.
  10. My old Lexus had the same problem and Lexus GB stated that they would replace it if less than 5 years old. Apparently it is a common fault. If yours is more then you probably need a new unit.
  11. Jamboo I'm sure once you have taken stock you will realise what a great car you really have. I have had mine for exactly 2 weeks now and done over 1000 miles in her. Best car I have ever had ( I know its early days though for rattles etc.) I also have a brand new Mercedec C200K (wifes) and I know which I prefer and which is the better built car. The Merc is at the end of its run now with a new C class coming out next year so has no niggly problems but The Lexus we drive has so much more character and we love 'em. I hope to read more of your rants and raves and of course wonder and amazement about your Lex over the coming months. :)
  12. 17" & 19".. For owners that have new wheels is there a market for their old 17" wheels as I would n't mind changing my 16". Not satisfied with my size need another inch!
  13. has any one noticed how the rear view mirror badly vibrates when you have a really bassey track on. The sound system is truly awesome!
  14. I have a new 220d now a week old having part exed my Saab 93 Tdi what I have noticed i am revving higher in the Lexus and accelerating more as I would do in a petrol car changing gear higher up the rev range. I am also driving a bit faster as I think the car tends to want to go and is so much quieter. My fuel economy today was 45.1 mpg 150miles no motorway cross country slogging. Not bad.
  15. I had the same problem, I think the key was in m=wifes bag and when she got in the key was pressed. I personally will not use this feature, may use the close all windows feature. I wonder if it can be disabled, I think its not safe as we have a little dog that might jump out.
  16. What can I say the car has excelled in its first week. The most amazing thing about it is how quiet it is for a diesel, Having driven a Saab 93 TDi the past 2 years and driven Mrcedes and BMs. I test drove a 2006 model in Fbruary and to be honest didn't like it. This car drives more like a petrol as the power is higher up the rev range and to be honest you do spend more time changing gear but I have no problem with that. Lxus must have improved the car since launch as I can use 6th at 70mph on motorway without shaking the car apart. Fuel consumption tremendous 43.3 mpg over 430 miles. I loaded my Cd player with mp3 disks and found the sound amazing, makes me wonder what the ML system sounds like. I wanted cloth seats so went for the 220d which is a lot of car for the money, took a few days to get used to them as they appear to have memory foam seat. I don't think many cars have the same seats has NASA space craft. Can't fault the car, but wife have had the problem of all the windows going down so she must have pushed the key in her handbag while getting in. Thsi car is a hidden gem, I hope it remains so.
  17. This is a known fault and happened to my Lexus IS200 SE. Lexus GB told me that they will change it under warranty if less than 5 years old. So you may be just in luck.
  18. New to forum but not to Lexus, bought my first baby in 2000 - IS200 SE loved every minute of her and it was a sad day when I sold her after 4 1/2 years with 130,000 untroubled miles (apart from 3 sets of wheels under warranty!) you can't beat Lexus customer service. I wanted a new Lexus but there wasn't one in October 2004 so bought the SAAB 93 TDi Vector Sport. Great press 4star rating etc. but hated it almost straight away. When Lexus threatened to produce a diesel IS I was down like a shot to my local garage to test drive it as soon as it came in. I have to say I loved the car but I was gutted by the way she drove. The gearing meant you couldn't use 6th gear and the vibrations were incredible. I ordered a Brechan Slate 250 SE auto I then heard that fuel consumption was low 20s so cancelled quick. Having been an avid reader of these bulletin boards these seem common issues. The old Lexus experience beckoned me after testing Audis, Mercs, and BMs theres something different about them you just can't put your finger on. Went in to my lexus garage Sunday saw a FANTASTIC Windsor Blue Mica IS250. What an amazing colour. I didnt test drive a new diesel but ordered a 220d base model in Windsor Blue, at the dock will be mine on Friday not bad 5 day delivery. You can have the Saab to trade in with pleasure, they really are poor quality cars. IMHO I can't wait now to get my new baby on Friday, I didn't want leather seats anyway. I look forward to sharing my experinces with you all over the coming months.
