  2. i am on 75k and still original rear discs - loads of life left on them, have changed the pads once.

    i changed the front discs and pads as they were warped other than that they are fine.

    when you say marked what do you mean? you can see the shape of the pad on the disc?

    yes i can see the shape of the pads on the disc,have done 8k on them and still the same,also get a slight rubbing noise on rear nearside

  3. Have 53k on clock and am sure car is still on original rear discs. At 50k service i had an advisory note that pads were worn and indeed they are. I know for the next service they will do the usual phone call 'your discs need doing as well' .Discs also have marks where the car obviously sat still for some time in the past before i got it.

    Is it worth buying pads AND discs and doing the lot. Im going to have to get a mechanic mate to do it as ive got a sporting :whistling: injury that means i cant bend/kneel down...

    also if i get the mintex ones off eBay will it be cheaper than he can source them from local motor factors or whatever he uses

    Matt was originally wrong with what he stated.

    and all credit to him for sticking his hands up straight away and acknowledging it.

    Is it possible that your manner of driving can effect wear and tear on the belt. ie if a car has been hammered theres more chance of the belt being worn than normal sedate general use. :whistling:

    One thing for sure we rarely read about snapped cam belts on here .

  6. Shouldnt be that stiff, it;s a bit stiffer than the other gears but sounds like there may be a problem.

    sit in the car and practice it...you need a certain technique :whistling: its called left wrist strength and a shove...face your palm left and push in a horizontal manner quite firmly

    my wife used my car for the first time in 18mnths and rang me stating she was stuck up a drive and couldnt reverse...you really have to give it some but once you get used to it its okay....

  7. jus an update about the is200 bein a 'non-interferance' i dont agree with it and dont tink it is correct.

    Spent the day at the garage replace the cambelt. Start The engine up, it wasnt happy it was it was rattling, so strip the engine to find 6damaged pistons.

    so an anon report from an anon poster has confirmed exactly what...that the engine can be damaged by the cam belt snapping :question: or have i missed something here....the reason i ask is that mine is on 53k and its something i need to think about doing sooner rather than later

    not been on here long time now, due to the new arrival !

    Little Baby boy, 5pounds 10 ! 4 days old now,

    but a bit peed of with NHS,

    local surgery refused to make an appointment for him yesterday when he was 3 days old, after a rash appeared on his body, even the midwife who was visiting at the time spoke to them and gave her concerns but still no appointmnent, all becuase he was not registered, well that would be the case 3 days after being born,

    spoke to another midwife today who said there should have made an appointment under my wifes name, and this happened last time with our other son.

    we ended up having to go the hospital couple miles away and waited 3 hurs to see a doctor !

    really peed off, and have contacted solicitors to get some advice, you could class this as medical negligence,

    what do you think?

    So happy with the new baby and 2 weeks of work as well due to partinity !

    why the solicitor. :question:

    surely a letter of complaint would suffice

    i think most suffer from these minor issues,particulary the nuts under the bonnet...i dont think it matters if you live near the sea anymore,the amount of salt /grit shoved on the roads more than makes up for it. I live about a mile from the sea and have never suffered from excessive corrosion in my cars....

  10. Must be diff ones then have you got the item number?

    I got some from the dealer last year,thrown in with the purchase .....lying salesman told me they were over £100.......muppet left the price on the pack...they were about £65 i recall.

    The genuine ones are excellent quality, nil visible wear in 18 months

  11. I fully accept the market conditions but isnt this guide meant to reflect these current conditions and price cars accordingly?

    £8000 trade on a 05 IS200 SE

    £6400 trade on a 53 IS200 SE

    These prices seem quite reasonable in todays climate but find a dealer who will offer you that in part ex..no chance. Yet this is their bible.They are still advertising cars for sale well over book price and offering £2000K under book in part ex

    What is the point in guides like this when car dealers are on a different planet :tsktsk: They are offering discounts to individual customers but i was told its not the 'Lexus thing' to advertise it...

    Surely Lexus dealers must be being propped up big time by Lexus GB / Toyota whatever as they simply cannot be selling cars at the moment!

  12. Already tried that one.. :winky: still the same knocking noise...it does every now and again but this could be due to weather....i defo think its either anti roll , drop links,shocks ,top mount area....

    I think its the inner oil valve as if it has a problem to do if it gets oil to certain parts and if it doesnt then it knocks ( metal to metal) and sends the sound up through the body of the shock...and hence why you can hear it inside the cabin and also outside..... :unsure:

    Dazz you may be onto something. I work next to a large garage and i know the blokes in there quite well. I popped in today to discuss an IS250 and somehow got back to the knocking noise on my motor.

    Straight away the oldest boy in the garage said it sounds like your oil valve in your schock. I thought where have i read that...on your post of course :winky:

    Now Lexus assured me they changed the shocks, now the chances are they didnt :tsktsk: as surely the chances of same fault in a new shock on the same side are minimal. Now im seriously looking at getting shot of the beastie and the knocking noise is tipping me that way faster than i would like, however would be intrigued to know if this could be the problem.

    You arent planning on going down the new shocks route are you?

  13. Having driven the petrol VRS a few years ago, today had a test drive in a VRS diesel......OTR price knocking on £20k. Having driven the IS220D there is one thing i want to say to all you diesel owners. This car is in a completely different league. :shifty:

    If the Lex was a championship team hovering around the verge of the premiership (but not quite making it-according to some),the Skoda is a Div 2 team going no-where.

    Okay they are offering 1K off a new one but with current Lex offers that means its roughly the same price as a base IS220D.

    Good points: Big boot and big back seat...and its quick...if you like the sound of a massey ferguson emanating throughout the cabin as you floor it!

    Bad points: Was i on the set of life on mars?. Okay I shouldnt have got straight out of an IS200 :whistling: but hell this thing was like stepping back into the 70's, allright 80's and those early diesel models. It sounded like a tractor,the road noise was unbelievable,the cabin drab,grey and angular. The dash was awful and the stereo was so poor and tinny that I was quite frankly..appalled :o you know when you drive a new car and urgently try and turn up the base only to find its on max :shutit:

    The rattles and 'creaking' of body panels would have you IS220d owners suicidal :lol: This was like driving a coffin on wheels. I appreciate that this is meant to be a sporty long distance cruiser but long distance in the sporty type bucket seats will have you feeling like you have gone 10 rounds with a Leeds Utd football fan :crybaby:

    As the salesman said to me 'its not a Lexus is it' :question: not in a million miles,never been so glad to get out of that shed and back into my IS200

    I daresay the Superb, as they call it, may be more refined and the thing i drove is a little souped up, (in a diesel kind of way ) but pricewise Skoda appeared to have overstepped the mark.How the hell it justifies its reviews and price I really dont know.

    The strange thing is, with the vRS petrol it kind of works,or did when they were knocking them out at 15K two years ago..a hot hatch with a big boot and cheap for the' experience'..not this......

    by the way,big poster in showroom 'Octvaia now comes with electric rear windows as standard' :hehe: i need a bit more than that to tempt me :winky:

  14. i have a 56 plate 220d in black,

    i would never have a black one again, its a bugger to keep clean and the bonnet is splattered in white spots from stone chips which show up the undercoat the paint is really soft.

    the car has been in for various ecu mods and injector changes ect but still returns 30 mpg

    its had a new drivers seat due to rattles after several visits to resolve it.

    its had numerous rattles and has a very annoying one next to my right ear i just cant be bothered any more taking it in to get it sorted.

    the oil warning light came on before the 10k and 20k service.

    1st and 6th gear are crap

    this is the first deisel i have ever owned and to be honest it will be the last, i had a 250 auto for a couple of weeks when mine was in for repair which is a totally different car to drive what a mistake i made with the 220d, they should never had brought out this car in my opinion, and we wouldnt have filled this forum with as many complaints

    i think the new is looks great the best looking mid sized exec at the mo but go for the 250 please

    thanks...the IS250 is what im aiming at....looks like black is a no no (guessed as much) constant cleaning doesnt reaaly do it for me :whistling:

  15. I am within a gnats whisker of purchasing an IS250 auto. However of course it may or may not happen :winky: (for any salesman who suss me out)

    Ive done some homework and checked the size of the boot - i can fit the clubs in and a roof box can handle the yearly visit to the airport :whistling: so i wont be on here next year having a dig about this isue

    I appreciate that the back seats dont go down and also accept that there is nothing i can do about that . The positives are that I wont be loading MY car up with stuff for the tip :winky:

    Creaking dash / rattles - Is this a major issue or have Lexus done something about the latest models?

    Seats - non leather - strangely enough the good lady was worried about them 'pulling' and someone on the forum mentioned fabric ripping. Is this common?

    Colour - Anyone got black- would you go for it again

    Service costs- Anyone have rough ideas on year 1/2/3 service prices and would it pay for me to buy a service plan?

    For those of you that have had one for some time whats it like to live with and would you recommend one? and would you buy / lease etc again?

  16. Hi guys, ive the same problem. Took my car to a garage last wek and the guy couldn't find anything wrong. Took it to another garage and he said it was the drop link. So after getting the drop link replaced...guess what ? Correcto Amondo, it's still there :alien: looks like a job for Scully and Mulder, or just blast the music :driving:

    to be honest this issue has totally ruined my enjoyment of the car and the reason im looking at getting shot of it after 18 months.I was going to get another LEX but they are not interested in selling cars to me (another story) It went back numerous times and had warranty work to trace the fault and they were sick to death of seeing me in the end. Its been looked at independently by a workshop and ive been under the car when its been on the ramps and there is nothing obvious - dazz is saying shocks/top mounts -all replaced on mine - no joy im afraid (also ball joints done)

    I would be interested to know if anyone has suffered the same problem (that hasnt been due to brakes )and has solved it!

  17. Apart from tyres..... That's because I didn't know about the Geo from WIM...

    All I needed in four years was one brake light bulb... (90p) :P

    Lexus IS 200 is a ROCK SOLID CAR.... in my view

    I could same the same about my 89 vaux belmont SRI...far more reliable than my IS200

    tyre wear,clutch judder, knocking from front suspension area : all major issues suffered by numerous people and clearly 3 design faults that still fox Lexus mechanics to this date

  18. Space isn't my only issue with the IS. The lack of split fold rear seats is a major issue for me. The fuel consumption is not as good as claimed. The 1st gear is terrible. 6th gear is a waste of time. Cabin noise is bad. I do not see the point in traveling any great distance to have a car serviced.

    Here's an analogy for you; An IS is like the woman you pick up on a night out after an argument wiht your girlfriend and with the beer goggles on. She looks pretty and wears the right clothes. She entices you with her charms. In the morning and when fully sobre, you realise she's actually got a few problems and nowhere near as good as the girl you ditched. She farts, she swears, she insults your friends and family and makes you hanker back to your old girlfriend.

    That's Lexus for you. :)

    dont you just love beer goggles :whistling: ...

    I too suffer the beer goggle effect when buying cars :duh: The only time I mislaid them was when I part ex'd a Lancia 2000 HPE for a Daihatsu charade 1ltr 3 cyclinder diesel turbo :lol:

    note to others, always price up dealer service parts before cheap ones as they really are not as expensive as people think. :winky:

    what are you going to do..tell them to get a genuine toyota one on there :shutit:

    Nothing the matter with unipart,they will handtighten it, clean with a rag and away you go :winky:

  20. Why are we getting so hung up about a base model diesel. Its the cheapest Lexus in the range, price now reflects its impracticaility and complete awfulness. Look on all approved cars people just arent buying these things and the price now reflects it. Brand new from 17K its hardly the car to compare with a BMW now is it :shifty:

    Im sure if Philfy owned an IS250 auto or GS 300 we wouldnt be having this mass debate. Lexus made a lemon but lets not all get cut up about it.

    To be honest after i drove the IS220D for a few days i thought the Astra CDTI was far superior thats how poor it was.

  21. Hello Joe and welcome to the club :)

    Not sure on the service side of things down your way but, i would say shop around as most of the Lexus dealers charge different prices? But you can find some good company's that will do the same service for a bit /lot cheaper than lexus and you can even supply your own parts :)

    The knocking on the front does sound like the brake pads are moving in the caliper? might be a good idea to see if they fitted the shim kit when the last set of pads was fitted as quite a few throw them away with the old pads, Mines done it for a while and does seem a common problem,

    Rust wise mine is nearly 9 years old and the bodywork is very good with no rust but a few stone chips around the car and come to think of it with all the is200/300's i've seen over the years i've never seen rust on any of them :)

    why not try a toyota garage??????they are the same car as for the cost i work for a toyota garage in edinburgh and we give a special labour rate to cars over 4 years old and theirs a further drop for cars over 6 years old(you have to ask for it though they are sneaky and wont tell you about it unless you ask!!!)hourly rates vairy though and you'd need to ask your local dealer.

    oh ps welcom to the club.

    A hell of a lot of IS200's creak/clunk and knock according to this forum. Starting with the brakes seems to be the first port of call, then check ball joints then do what I do if still no joy...turn the stereo up. Mine went back numerous times under warranty and they replaced everything they could including the shocks / ball joints etc and it still has a little knock.

    Strange thing,no one else can hear it...i do have super duper hearing however due to a lifetime of wearing ear plugs :whistling:
