  1. Well just an update i had some new KYB Excel-G shocks fitted as i also had the "knocking" noise......and aswell as improving the ride the "knocking" noise has now gone..!!!! :D

Just thought i would update on my update (above ):yawn: got the new KYB shocks fitted....and B****cks ive still got the knocking noise...AAAHHHHGGGGHHHHHH does my head in..! :duh: :duh:

Now its either the KYB shocks are ...well....made like that and so they all (old and new ) tend to do it...but not sure.....so if i keep the car and i find some money i will go down the coilover root....or bistein shocks and eibach lowering springs........ ;)

    gutted for you.....

it must be the shocks, this warm weather and the oil viscosity means mines knocking like a barn door in a hurricane...

  2. Drove about a mile before it dawned on me what I'd done.

I had just been to a pretty hectic business meeting and my mind was elsewhere when I pulled into the petrol station and absent mindedly filled up - wife has a petrol car which she always manages to run practically dry when I need to use it for a trip down the tip (it's a hatchback).

RAC couldn't really help other than tow the car to the Lexus dealer in Cheltenham (the nearest to where I was) and the Lexus dealer wanted over £350 plus vat to look at it and he couldn't do it there and then.

I remembered that I am also a member of the AA so tried them. They have AA Fuel Assist.

I have to say, AA Fuel Assist are just brilliant.

Emptied the tank, flushed it through, stuck in 10 litres of diesel and Bob's your uncle - all at the roadside. Can't praise the service high enough.

Patrolman says he does this 4 of 5 times a day. If you're a member it costs a smidgen under £200 including vat. A bargain in my opinion.

lets get this right...it cost you £200 plus the cost of the fuel you put in.... say £60 :o so thats £260 odd... did they give you the fuel back?

and thats a bargain ?/? thats a 7 day holiday to mallorca... :whistling:

the same happened to my wifes friend. My father in law turned up with a pair of pliers, a bucket and a jerry can. He got a tank full of fuel for nowt.

  3. Perhaps Lexus IS models aren't a good example as the engine range is limited but suppose you take a 3 series model range, you can have a 318, 320, 325, 330, etc I've never quite understood why one would actually need to buy a 330? If you stick to speed limits, etc, defensive driving surely that extra power over say a 320 (as a standard size) would never be used unless you were on the run from the police!

What's the point of the extra money for that size engine and lower mpg, higher insurance premium/insurance group, etc.

    Cant speak for a BMW

have you tried an IS300 or GS300? .....the smoothness of the engine and the knowledge that when on the odd occasion :whistling: you need to floor it, well it will go and without too much effort

  4. My experience with Japanese cars is that they are very good indeed. Particularly, Lexus, Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Mazda. Which you prefer is pretty much down to what you are looking for, not a matter of quality. 3 years ago I drove a IS250 back to back with a 6MPS and chose the performance, traction and space aspects of the 6MPS over the super smooth engine and rear wheel drive of the IS250. I did not notice any quality differences between them.

never driven an 6MPS but i doubt 99.9999% of the general public have either

No way can you compare the interior or exterior quality of a mazda with a Lexus..different league

you may have chosen the 6 for the space and i would accept that as my wife went ballistic when i got rid of the 6, but thats the only advantage as far as i can see

  5. It couldn't have been £9995 could it? That's ridiculously cheap for a 7 seater even if it is a Citroen...........

Surprisingly I saw an ad for the BMW 1 series in the paper today saying that they were offering an extra £1.5k on top of the scrappage allowance - never thought I'd see BMW offering discounts like that........

ive been watching the picasso prices for a good 2-3 years as thought it may be a good kid carrier for my 3 (keeping the lex)...price settled at £9995 well over 2/3 years ago and hasnt moved, now they are using the scrappage thing as some kind of incentive...even though the price hasnt moved :tsktsk:

  6. the 300 has the tiptronic

its the bees bollox....the auto is excellent but this feature takes it onto a different planet............add the extra power and the experience totally exceeds the 200 drive

I actually love the 200 gearbox but its a poor second to the auto at the 300 level...the IS250 AUTO comes close but for raw power in an auto the 300 should be acknowledged as a classic

as I said at the time i couldnt run to it but I really am tempted now

  7. I had my heart set on a 300 before i had even sat in a Lex....

    I test drove a 300 and it was brilliant....however I couldnt run to 13k for the model i found. I found a 200 same age 3k cheaper.

I had no idea what a 200 was like until I got in one....but was very impressed but not 3k impressed to get the 300

As for 1.5k impressed.....i would say YES ..do it :winky:

  8. When this subject has come up before, people here have normally said that judder when pulling away basically a characteristic of the car, due to the dual-mass flywheel (e.g. see this thread). Surely replacing the flywheel isn't going to make a lot of difference to it ?

i was one of the people who challenged this 'so called fact'....luckily mine was under warranty....it was replaced 10k ago and the problem has gone..

    factory fault = YES.....characteristic = NO

    flywheel is the issue......

  9. hi all! i am also looking to buy a lexus from a local dealer 05 is 2.0 se with 35k on the clock, what sort of prices am i looking at for servicing and when will the major services be due,Any help welcome......dave

40k is full, 50k intermediate, biggy at 60k (that may include cambelt)

I had the 40k done on purchase (free) and the 50k and 60k thrown in so cant comment on prices, however having read this forum for several years you need to shop around as different dealers charge different prices..massively different in some cases

Intermediate can be as low as £150.... 60k ive seen a massive range £350 - £600 :crybaby: then you have the cambelt change, they will inspect at 60k although cross that bridge when you come to it
