  1. We ownded an E class diesel Mercedes. Brilliant car powerful diesel engines, cars designed to do starship mileage without problems. Mercedes have always had good comfortable seats but they are usually too firm and their diesels are still audible especially at start up. Still today few cars can manage the silence and comfort that the LS has. We have had a few Mercedes but it will take some persuasion to go back after owning a Lexus- they've just got it right. :zee: Paul
  2. No problems here (as yet!- no parts) had the car since January. I have a courtesy car a Ford Focus and there is no comparison to the LS. The LS are far superior! Run forever and are seriously quick (which cars come complete with a power switch on the dashboard? ) We get about 29mpg on a run 20 city driving. Even though the car is 10 years old its much better than any BMW or Mercedes we have owned in the past. The only negative point is when parts are needed! Go and buy one they're brilliant :D
  3. Hi I have an old FIAT-Bertone X1/9 thats got black leather seats, someone recommended Gliptone. The seats were old and it brought them up looking good. It's the best i have used but a bit expensive at about £15 (includes leather cleaner and separate conditioner) I have used it on my parents LS and its brought the seats up looking fine (1993 car) :arrrggg-matey:
  4. Thanks for the info, we were going to consider changing our 93 LS to LPG as we now have a few stations stocking this fuel now but are thinking again! Paul W County Durham :arrrggg-matey:
  5. Hi David i don't think i could add anything further to these comments. We have had our MK2 for a short while now and its nothing short of brilliant. The economy is far less than our previous car a E300 diesel but still there is no comparison for comfort so some sacrifices have to be made. The LS is easy to drive and quiet with take-off type acceleration yet looks as others say too, more discreet than a Mercedes, so i guess it gets noticed more because they aren't as common as the other big luxury cars Paul :arrrggg-matey:
  6. We know what it is now!, its the sun roof, it makes an odd beeping noise when the ignition is switched to 'on' when the sunroof is open, it switches off after a short while.
  7. ECT power button -Does this switch do much difference for power in the LS400? Thanks Paul W :arrrggg-matey:
  8. Hi I don't really know that much about the Japanese equivalent however, Is it not worth looking at an LS400 here? We got a great deal £5400 for a 1993 model with 100,000 miles with lexus sh and its great. :arrrggg-matey:
  9. Our car is behaving perfectly normal............or is it? We have owned the car for a while now and its been no trouble. Lately however, it seem to be makes 3 beeping noises from the passenger side when we are driving the car. It only happens now and again . There are no warning lights illuminated on the dash whilst driving it which seems normal. What can it be? Thanks Paul Wales Chester-le-Street
  10. I got a price from Costco Wholesale(national wholesale Co. i think) for Michelin tyres for the LS400. They were £135 each inc VAT, balance and fit- i dont know if that is a good price. -Paul :arrrggg-matey:
  11. Our key for our LS400 has a transmitter built into it to unlock/lock the doors. Does anyone know if this key also has a transponder thing built into it and can it be copied instead of going to the dealer. I know that the FIAT CODE immobiliser key on my car can be copied elsewhere but i am unsure if the Lexus key is too technical and if it can only be done at the dealership :o .Thanks :D
  12. I know what you mean. We have an oldish Mercedes E-Class and it has just the one wiper. Its seems unusual how it works but it seems to clear almost entirely the whole screen in like an M shape. Paul W
  13. Hello My parents have just paid £5200 for a L reg 1993 LS400, i don't think it was bad value, its done exactly 100,000 miles with full Lexus SH. My dad took me out for a drive in the car last night and i can't believe how silent they are. Too me, first look at the LS they don't look quick. I was shocked at the horrendous take-off type acceleration- we were just used to a Mercedes E300 diesel. I love the gadgets, they're great. I am most impressed with the audio. No doubt we will be shocked at the economy, but hey the Lexus wins hands down for comfort compared to the Mercedes- the 'heated' seats are just perfect. I think i have heard a few points mentioned about the digital clock so check that out, I don't know alot else but the others here may help.
  14. Hello, Could someone give me an estimation on the cost of insurance-through the owners club- for a 1993 LS 400. Thanks! Paul Wales
  15. Hi, Just recently checking an hpi report at a dealer for a Lexus LS 400 and it says the car is beige. To me it looks like a champagne/gold colour is this what it is know as? Thanks Paul W
  16. Hello, We have seen a Lexus LS400 which has FSH at a local dealer. It looks a nice colour (met black?) the car has done over average miles its a 1994 model 'L' reg, the dealer is looking for £7000 is this good value? Our budget will be about £7000 but i don't know if it may be best buying privately rather than from a dealer what's your advice? Thanks Paul Wales Chester-le-Street Durham
  17. We are currently looking around for a comfortable quality car either a Lexus LS400( maybe a 93-95 model) or a Mercedes S class( -95). The only problem we have is the availability and cost of spares for the Lexus especially since we have a specialist for the Mercedes in our region (Durham), which is realistically priced compared to the Mercedes dealership. Are there any good sources for spares and servicing parts for the LS400 in the UK other than the Lexus dealership? Thanks for your help Paul Wales
