  1. Also check that the seats do in fact get cold. Ensure there is no re-verb coming from BASS speaker on the back window sill. Inspect the little tool-kit in the trunk and make sure all the little tools are there. The torch is usually missing. Manuals are a pain to get afterwards, so be sure they are all there too. Check that all doors close correctly (by vacuum).
  2. 80 litres = 17.582 gallons. 490 divided by 17.582 = 27.86. I bet that had you driven exactly the same but without the pwr/ect you would have got just over 30. LS 430 had increased tank to 22.2 US gallons.Equates to 18.47 Imperial Gallons.Equates to 84.06 litres. 490 miles divided by 18.47 = 26.52 mpg. Having done the same trip several times always driving the same way, I would never get that kind of mileage. The only difference was the PWR ETC button on. So uneducatedly I am assuming PWR ETC button = better fuel economy...
  3. Not sure what that means, but moving on... I had the car on SPORT suspension. I rarely use high suspension, mostly stuck in traffic, cause I think it looks a little better raised up... Even though the LS430 has the least amount of stare value of any very expensive car!
  4. That is interesting also. I am not sure why I'd be getting an incorrect reading on the MPG trip computer. However I am going to get about 90 miles extra out of this tank which is great news for me...
  5. If I get 490 miles out of a tank from full to empty what would the actual MPG be?
  6. It is 2001. I don't know if it is 6 speed... Not techy at all.
  7. This is on the Lexus trip computer. I'd believe it too, as on average I'd get 400 miles out of a tank from full to empty. I expect to get about 460 miles out of this tank, as I am near enough that already and the fuel light is not even on. I am quite sure that there are VERY few cars getting that kind of mileage. For all the bad press Lexus get for fuel economy and also the bad press a 4.3litre engine gets, I am IMPRESSED. It gets way more effeciency than any other car I know. That is, if you don't drive it like a boy-racer the whole time. I do over-take a lot and I do enjoy the acceleration. I love to remind the car it is after-all a V8... I am looking forward to hearing your report on the drive over the weekend. Other-things of note: I had my seat air set to full cold. I had a full trunk (not much heavy things though) I had a passenger with the seat air set to hot.
  8. This is very interesting to me to discover this. On an 80litre tank of petrol 10%-15% improvement is significant. I have also found CRUISE CONTROL to be the most efficient way to drive. I use it as much as possible as the revs are always lower when using it. WOW, how can Lexus under-estimate the PWR ETC fuel consumtion so badly? I mean if I had known this in the last 3 years of LS driving I would have saved significant money on fuel. Any other fuel economy tips out there?
  9. Hi All, I had a very interesting observation in my LS430 over the weekend. I usualy drive with the car in NORMAL mode and only switch the PWR ETC button on when I am over taking. This is because I read in the manual the PWR ETC influences the fuel economy negatively. Over the weekend I did over 400 miles. I decided to leave the PWR ETC button on for the entire trip, as the trip would involve sporty driving and over taking. I do this same exact trip about once a month. In NORMAL mode I would get about 28mpg but this weekend with all the same settings and the exact same style of driving but in PWR ETC mode ON I got 36mpg... Could it be that the PWR ETC button improves fuel economy on a longer trip?? Usualy on this trip I would have to refuel before I get home. But this time I got home with a quarter of a tank left... All settings in the car are always the same and my driving style was exactly the same as usual. IN car settings are: AC on set to 16*C and to Auto Air purifier set to Auto Dipped headlights on the for the entire trip Windshield wipers used 75% of the time (yes I do live in Ireland)! CD player on set to random for the entire trip SAT-NAV on with voice guidance for the entire trip ANY COMMENTS?????
  10. Hello all, I usually hang out on the LS forum as I drive a LS430 and love it. I am going to buy my wife an RX300 as she's got a bun in the oven now and needs something safer for the new addition. Can someone please give me a VERY simple run down of the differences in the models from 2001 until 2007 and offer advice on what to look out for when buying secondhand. Thank you so much for your advice, I will keep you posted on my search for the perfect RX.
  11. That would be excellent. If you find out how to do that, let me know. I hate it that I have to pull over to set a destination on the screen. What about the DVD player? My car is from 2001. Would I be able to get that to play DVD's?
  12. Hi There, I got myself a LS430 a few months ago. My wife says I am having an affair with my car... What is the advantage of getting the sat-nav screen unlocked? What will that do? Also will any of the LS with sat-nav play DVD's?
  13. When I bought my LS400 I was 25 and was told I was the youngest registered owner of an LS400 in Ireland. Now I am 27 and upgraded to an LS430 and was again told I am the youngest registered owner of an LS430 in Ireland. It is an old mans car, but I love it. Sometimes I tell people it's my Dad's car, if they are annoying me... HA HA HA!!! Little do they know the luxury, comfort, power, speed and reliability I enjoy every day in my old mans car...
  14. Thanks. I will see how I get on with out the tint. My main reason for the tint is to avoid people looking in to see who's driving it. Young man, nice car and all that crap!
  15. Hi Steve, Thanks for the help. I have the memory seat set correctly. When I start the car, I have to press "1" each time to bring the steering wheel back to the correct place each time. Had a serious chat with the dealer as I was getting peed off with it. He is taking it in for the week next week and has pledged to fix it. He's giving me the RX400h for the week, as he knows I am thinking of getting my wife one! He will also get me two new keys and program them for me, as well as teaching me about the air-purifier and the cool box. He's going to get me a manual for the sat-nav too. Now I am a very happy camper. I had a black LS400 from 1998 for the last 18 months. I had the window's tinded fairly black and the car looked amazing. It had cream leather inside and I loved it. The new LS430 is silver with black leather inside. (not my first colour choice, but the price was right. Also very few 2001's have the sat-nav in Ireland). I am in two minds about getting the window's tinted in this one. I have a couple of reason's why not. Can anyone assist. 1. As the LS430 has temperature sensors around the car that the A/C uses, will tinting affect that? 2. As the rear window has the blind you can put up, tinting the rear window renders the sun-shade useless? 3. Would it look any good on a silver car? 4. Would it make it very dark inside with the black leather? Advice please!
  16. Thanks Rillo, great help so far. My LS430 does not have the president pack, so it just has the standard rear air-con vents. There are no buttons for the rear air-con. Any further advice? What does TBH stand for? Bring the car back to Lexus on Wednesday for a final fix and a valet. Will ask about the smart-key when I am there. When I asked the dealer about the air-purifier I was told he'd get back to me about it...
  17. I've done quite a few miles in the new LS460 since my Dad got one in January. It is a lovely car. A little noisier than my LS430 but in a "power-hum" kind of way, rather than smelly loud car. I have a question though, when you are stopped in traffic watching a DVD the screen goes blank when you drive again. This is a built-in safety measure so the driver does not get distracted. It is very annoying for passangers. Is there a way to remove this safety feature??? Lexus will not do it.
  18. Hi All, I just bought an LS430 from 2001 and I have some questions. The car is in perfect condition and I got it from a dealer. It has the sat-nav and some other extra's too, all from Lexus. I had a 17 point snag list which was fixed last week except for a couple of little things. 1. In the boot there is an air purifier. What is this for? 2. When you put the drivers seat back, the head-rest goes up. The dealer says this is a feature, is this true? 3. There is a cool-box in the rear, behind the rear armrest and between the boot. How do you turn the cool air on to this? 4. Although I have set my memory seat, each time I start the car the steering wheel does not return to the correct position for me. The dealer is unhelpful with this issue. Any advice? 5. In the sat-nav options, there is a button called "motor-way mode". What is this for? 6. It has the smart-key system. Does anyone know if this will allow the keys to tell the car who the driver is and re-arrange the seats and air temp? If this model will do it, how can it be done? Really looking forward to any answers and any help and advice.
  19. Hi all, I just upgraded my LS400 to a LS430 year 2001. It has the Sat-Nav in it. I am collecting it tomorrow and am very excited. I asked the dealer to update the Sat Nav DVD as a part of the sale. They did this and told me it is a Lexus owners right to have the most up-to-date DVD in the car. When the car is in for a service, if there is a DVD update it will added, as a part of the service. Most people don't request this, so it is not done! I am in Dublin in Ireland. Have not slept all week as I've been so excited about the new car.
