  1. Nice motor but what's it worth. Probably peanuts compared to what it should be worth. Never ceases to amaze me how cheap these cars are.
  2. These cars don't sell well in the uk due to petrol at a fiver a gallon. In my experience they only sell to enthusiats that appreciate the Lexus quality. I've noticed quite a few getting scrapped for very little reason. Maybe they just could not sell them and the parts are worth more. End of the day most of us paid peanuts and realise that they will sell for peanuts, that's life.
  3. Not sure if it is neg but if you get them wrong it won't harm, just switch em round b4 you solder. The 2 C/L wires are next to each other at one corner of the blue plug. You might find a step by step on one of the lexus sites if you look round cos taking the dash cover out is all about knowing where the screws are.
  4. This is an easy job but a bit fiddley. Obviouly you need to get to the wiring loom behind the dash and find a 12v that's on all the time. The rest of your connections are next to your right foot a blue connecter. I cannot tell you the colours without looking at mine. I know the central locking open and shut are at the corner of the plug and both green though one may be green and brown. Would suggest you solder the connections as mine came loose within a week or so. Id you are still stuck after trying let me know and I'll pull my carpet back and have another look. I took the boot open connection from the blue/white wire at the back of the switch. If you've got a meter you can find the wires easy enough. If you haven't got one I suggest you leave the job till you have.
  5. it's makinf a racket cos of the air in it. If it was quiet b4 the pump may be fine. The solenoid filter is probably bunged up, that's common.
  6. You are a prime candidate to read my replies to an alternator problem which was caused by this O ring. See the replies by Bigste. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/forum/ind...mp;#entry495830
  7. UPDATE. My problem came when the alternator give up and it goosed the battery. After replacing these it was fine for a few days then the dash warning lights started staying on. The whole problem was traced to the steering pump leaking. The culprit was the O ring mentioned above priced at about £1.50. The job is easy enough for someone with a good set of spanners so if your pump is wet on the outside change the O ring on the reservoir. In my case it did look like the pump gaskets were shot and leaking but it was just the O ring. To change the O ring you'll be better removing the air filter and sensor then it's easy to get the res off. A 10mm socket through the pulley and a 10mm ring spanner for the other 2 bolts. I suggest you syphon out what you can first and use plenty of rags under the pump. As you pull it off be quick to put your finger on the hole at the bottom of the res to minimalise spilage. If you are just doing the O ring an hour will be all you need unless you are like me and have a brew when you get it off. To do all the above (Alt & pump) the tools you need are 10, 12, 14mm sockets and spanners, that's it.
  8. If you find the alternator is full of oil check there is no play in the PAS pump pulley. If if seems ok your problem is likely to be an easy fix to stop the leak. The reservoir which hols the PAS fluid is detachable from the pump and when it's detached their is a small 'O' ring that needs replacing. Here in Spain it costs 1.85€ or £1.50 to you in uk. To change it you must syphon out the fluid first then cover the alt with plenty of rags. There are 3 bolts to be removed plus the low pressure pipe. There is no need to remove the pump. You can find more details if you look round this forum or ask here and I'll give you more details. The part number from lexus or toyota is 90080-30040.
  9. 1. Disconnect the battery negative. 2. Remove serpentine belt by using a socket and rachet on the spring loaded tensioner pulley. Think it's 14mm and turning anti clockwise will slacken the belt enough to get it off. The tensioner pulley is the one on the opposite side to the battery and it has no grooves on it as it runs on the back of the belt. Whilst the belt is off check the idler pulley for worn bearings. 3. Remove the cover from under the engine. 10mm I think. 4. There is only one bolt and one nut to get the alternator off (14mm I think). One is undone from above and one from below. Once the nut and the bolt is out you can manouvre the alternator in order to pull out the wiring plug at the rear and then remove the main power wire from the side. 5. In order to get the pump out from below you will probably need to take out 2 small bolts from the corner of the sump that are holding a bracket containg two pipes. You'll also need to remove the bracket from the pipes by taking out 2 small screws. With these pipes out of the way you can just about lower the Alternator down through the gap. The whole job will be about 45 minutes to an hour for a first attempt. If your alternator is very oily suspect your power steering pump leaking which is above the alternator. If you have not had to top up the steering fluid don't worry about the pump until it starts needing top ups. If you've needed top ups you are advised to sort out the leak at the same time as you do the alternator or your time and money will be in vain.
  10. Just checking old posts on this subject and the price of nearly £50 has to be a joke. Lexus should be ashamed of themselves. Bet it don't cost 10 pence to make. Anybody find a cheap fix cos I got the same problem.
  11. It's a fact that you hear more noise from the front. Here are 2 examples you will under stand. First try sitting at the front of an aeroplane it's very quiet but not at the back because you are sitting behind the source when at the back. Secondly if you are on the ground and a very low flying aircraft comes along you won't hear much till it's gone past. Here ends the science lesson.
  12. I've just ordered some off ebay at £18 with postage to Spain. Will post when fitted. Looks like a cheap worthwhile addition.
  13. Hello I'm looking for a pair of 93 LS400 headlamps but they need to be LHD. I've posted on the usa site but not answers yet.
