That bracket was not used. As per PM I used a sheet of steel and made a template and effectively made a "blanking plate" that replaces it and cut a hole, welding some steel pipe, flared it a little and used it as a sleeve finished off with an exhaust clamp.

@Andrew888 had something similar to one of these before, albeit more expensive.

Any views, Andrew? Similar or identical?

Wow its been a while! I would say its "similar" as some modules block out the TPMS measuring block on the factory ECU if you plug in diagnostic software and it won't be able to read it. The only way to read any genuine TPMS faults is to return it to stock.

  3. Had my screen done a few months back with Sheilas Wheels (Esure) I HAD to go through Autoglass as they are the recommended installer/repairer. Prior to booking an appointment, I requested a genuine screen with the following - the 2 Side windscreen trims (they will break no matter how careful you are) windscreen clips for the trims to clip in (again they are brittle and snap easily) and a brand new rain sensor pad.

3 weeks later , Autoglass called me to book in an appointment as Esure approved my request. As I work on cars in my spare time, I removed absolutley everything prior to the installer turning up. All he needed to do was to remove the old screen and fit the new one.

He had on board the parts (genuine) and gave me the trims and clips but he didnt have the rain sensor pad in which I had a few spare genuine Lexus ones in my tool box so no drama.

He agreed with a genuine windscreen as he said there were a few screens hes fitted in the past that was obviously cheap and they were "wavey" when you look at it from certain angles.

There is no problem getting an Mot from any independent, No doubt someone local could fit you in today if you ring around. 👍Should you get an extended warranty is your business decision. But I think in view of the circumstances Lexus Warranty is showing poor form and I personally think you should refer to Lexus HQ

MOT for 2021 is not due until June now as last year Lexus Hayes serviced it and MOTd it at the same time at my request. Back in March and April last year when we were in true lockdown and when my warranty expires, there was no way to get the MOT done to be aligned with the warranty expiring unless I was front line and that's if Lexus was open back then. The warranty company on behalf of Lexus in a nutshell told me I didn't use it so I lose it.. (for 2021) maybe I should have MOTd it earlier than June but I would have thought they would have been more lenient.

  5. As my 2 year extended warranty expires today. One of the included MOT's will be lost as the earliest chance I could have MOT'd the car last year was June. If there wasn't a pandemic and lockdown obviously I would have MOT'd it today inline within the warranty expiry date. I called Lexus Warranty Services and they came to a "business decision" not to issue me the remainder MOT as my policy will have expired by June...

Seriously thinking about fixing the car myself and sodding the extra 2 years I plan to get for it.

  6. To be honest whatver happens my premium is going up regardless. Cat thefts round my area are plaguing the community so my postcode will be a hotspot anyway. Whatever the circumstances, insurance companies will have a "reason" to hike up the premium. I've never experienced a decrease in my premium yet despite shopping around and thats 4 years of Lexus ownership with 20 years + no claims and a clean licence etc. 😞

Thanks @Dixgas. Bottom right of windscreen. It's up for debate if it's in the vision area.

Next question, should I go via my insurer for a chip (£10 excess, sadly £75 for replacement), or just pay for it?

I appreciate all insurers are different but does anyone have any experience of a chip impacting their premiums?

£75 thats cheap.. My excess was £100 (Esure) However the "bullet hole" I got was huge so it had to be replaced. Since insurance next year is going to skin me, I requested for every possible part genuine. It finally got approved. So I got the new windscreen, drip trims (the ones the side) and new clips. However I did ask for the genuine rain sensor pad and they didn't supply one. Autoglass was going to use theirs but in my tool chest I have the genuine Lexus one so I fitted that.

You have O2 or air/fuel ratio sensors before and after the primary cat, you have nothing after the secondary one. The item in the middle of your picture is the secondary cat which is No 1 in my picture (rear cat).

This is the same set up as the Prius and CT200h. It is the rear cats that are being stolen, their primary cats are even more inaccessible than on the IS300h.

I've only seen images from Auris and CT's (one CT being real life) that they nick it from the downpipe take the primary and secondary in the 1 short section. Regardless. Its a terrible crime as my neighbour was threatened with weapons on his own driveway to protect his CT. As I helped him calm down as he was extremely shaken, he had his car recovered and they sawn off the downpipe spring bolts and then chopped it before the big resonator.  I've fixed probably 20 Honda Jazz's now from 2002-2007 and a Honda Civic. No Japanese cat is safe at the moment if you are unlucky enough.

You have the primary cat in the exhaust manifold at the bottom of the engine bay and then you have the secondary cat under the vehicle.

Surely thats a resonator? Primary cat you have the Oxygen sensor and then secondary O2 sensor (below pic) comes after the primary before the resonator. Normally if there is a secondary cat the secondary O2 sensor needs to be after it right?

I too have a crap windscreens fitted by Autoglass. However it was more "operator error" rather the glass itself. Last time round the fitter busted all my clips and creased the metal windscreen trims in which I could only say was "ripped" off rather that using your trim tools to remove. Still awaiting for Autoglass to call me back to say whether my request has been authorised or not 🥺

  11. God almighty crack enough to make the wife and I duck when driving to my weekly food shop. A rock that I can only assume came from a digger that was 3 cars in front. Anyway, Huge bullet hole shape in my windscreen. Called Autoglass as it was my insurers supplier, I requested for a genuine windscreen so waiting for approval.

Whatever happens, in my previous experience with Autoglass they muller the fixing clips and windscreen trims. Anyone thats recently used Autoglass that supplied new clips and trims?

I have an order from Japan and the trims and clips are a far sight cheaper than Lexus UK (60 odd quid a side!) and 10 quid a clip?! I'll just bolt it onto my main order if Autoglass is unheard of supplying genuine clips and trims. *OCD*!

    Cheers
