  1. 1) Check your tyre pressures. They can easily nosedive in the sub-zero temperatures that we have been having recently. Under-inflated tyres can have a negative effect on mpg. 2) Cold weather = Cold air = Denser air = Greater volumetric air intake by the engine per cylinder cycle. The ECU adapts to this by adding more fuel to prevent the engine from running lean. All of this equals slightly more power but less mpg. 3) Check that during your last service, Lexus didn't download the latest ECU software to your car. From my experience and those of others, this combined with the 5th injector replacement has seen a decline in the mpg we are seeing from our cars. Hope some of this helps. :winky:
  2. As we all know its a common problem with this car. My mpg wasn't spectacular before the 5th injector mod but it's definitely worse after it. I told Lexus about it before its last service and they said they would check it out. There's no evidence that it was ever 'checked' but they said that they had when I asked. I reset the trip yesterday when I was doing a 70 mile m/way trip. I was doing between 70-75mph all the way there in 6th (I have the Sport so its useable). Finished my trip and checked the computer which revealed a mesmorisingly crap 33.2mpg. After all that has been said on here about mpg and the common opinion of the 220d engine, I think we all just have to accept that it never will be a powerful, responsive, economic engine regardless of how you drive it or what modifications it has etc.
  3. Hi Guys, Apologies if this sounds a little stupid but where is the wheel brace located in the IS220d? I had a tyre changed the other day and after a few miles I thought it would be best to check the wheel nuts to ensure they were tight. However, I cant find the wheel brace. I have removed the floor of the boot to expose the spare wheel, jack and tool bag. I opened the tool bag to find a screwdriver, 2 spanners, a pair of pliers and the towing hook. There appears to be another space in the tool bag which is empty and I suspect that this is for the wheel brace. Before I ask Lexus for another I just thought I'd check with you all in case I'm looking in the wrong place. Good job I didn't get a flat tyre in the middle of nowhere! Thanks.
  4. I've experienced the same. Was averaging 40mpg before the 5th injector was replaced. Now i'm averaging 37mpg at best regardless of how easy I drive it. I also think that the flat spot in 1st gear is also now much worse. I certainly think the car was better before the change.
  5. Hi Everyone, Now I know the used car market is on its backside at the moment but I was somewhat astonished last week when a local Audi garage gave me a price on my car. Mine is an IS220d Sport. June 2006 (06 Reg). 29k miles, all the kit barring MM (which I know affects the value quite a bit). Lexus Tottenham are selling the exact same spec of car, 2 months older and 10k more miles for £15995. What did Audi offer me as part ex?????? £9500! Now is it just me or does that seem a bit low? Put it this way, I've given up looking at cars because at that value, the IS won't be going anywhere. Any comments? Cheers.
  6. Hi Everyone, Although I have the same dashboard rattles as everyone else on here (even though it has been out once to rectify the problem), I have now been blessed with another annoying noise. During the recent hot weather, when I drive the car, a horrible plasticy cracking noise comes from the rear of the interior. From what I can tell, its either coming from the rear parcel shelf or the third brake light surround. Strangley enough, when the temperature is lower, i.e. early in the morning, the noise disappears. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, has a standard fix been identified for the vibrating rear view mirror. Thanks Guys.
  7. Wouldn't bank on it. You can have a feather-light foot and yet never get to see the dizzy heights beyond 38mpg!
  8. Not sure if this is the exact reason why but as far as I am aware, diesel engine cars require stiffer front springs to their petrol counterparts in order to support the additional weight of the oil burner engine. As a result, the ride height is set slightly higher in order to maintain the ride quality.
  9. Only trouble is Matus, you need a bank loan to constantly keep using V-Power diesel due to the stupid amount it costs over here. I agree, the car runs better with the more 'premium' brands of diesel but the price of it has gone so high now that I for one cant justify the additional cost when filling up.
  10. Just wondered if any of you have had this problem before: Last Monday morning I was going to the gym before work at 5.30am (Yes it was that early!). I walked round to the back of the car, opened the boot, put my gear in and then went to get in the car. The doors refused to unlock when I did the usual of just touching the handle. I tried it a few times but to no avail. I pulled the fob out of my pocket and pressed the unlock button on it but still the car didn't do anything. Afeter trying for about 35 mins I managed to enter the car manually by popping off the door handle cover and using the detachable key from the fob. This set the alarm off (which did lots for my local popularity at 6.15am!). I managed to turn on the iginition and even start the car but the alarm still went off. I had to get out and leave it in the end to reset itself just so it shut up. I waited until 8.30 until Lexus service opened. They said that the keyless entry systems were badly affected by home wireless networks. In a nut shell, for 2 nights I had to park the car at the end of my street (where I couldn't see it) instead of my drive because this was the closest place to my house that the car would lock/unlock consistently. Lexus just asked for me to try it on my drive one more time on wednesday night which I did and it suddenly started working. Its worked fine since but the car isn't filling me with confidence at the moment. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, is it just me or does anyone else think its daft that you can start and even drive the car with the alarm going off? Cheers.
  11. Had mine for about 6 months now (IS220d Sport). My daily commute is 50% motorway and 50% country roads. The best I have ever seen (and this was driving like an OAP - no offence intended) was 39mpg average. This week, after a 170 mile motorway trip on Sunday, when I didnt go over 80 mph, it did 35mpg. My last car was a Mondeo ST TDCi. For a car that supposedly has 20bhp less, it felt extremely fast compared to the IS but even when I drove it hard it never ever went below 40mpg.
  12. Hi guys, I've just been reading about the change in idle speed when using the heater (even with the A/C off). I thought this was just mine but it appears as though other experience the same. I still think its wrong that it does it even when the car is warm but oh well. The question I wanted to ask concerns the blower (fan) for the heater. Even on full power, the strength of the blower seems very lame on all mode settings other than when it is set to the front screen. Does anyone else have this problem? Thanks.
  13. Hi guys, I've had an IS220d Sport for about 3 months now. The car has done 16k miles but the gearbox is what I can only describe as 'horrible'. Ive come from a Mondeo ST TDCi which I really enjoyed driving. I absolutely love the look of the IS and definitely prefer it to the Mondeo but I just wish I could say the same for the driving experience. 1st to 2nd gear can only be described as a real 'effort' as sometimes it just doesnt want to go in. Also, I can physically feel the lumps and bumps when I'm changing up. Does everyone have the same opinion of the gearbox or is it just me? Your views would be appreciated. Thanks.
  14. Just wondering if anyone else finds it annoying that the button for folding/unfolding the door mirrors isn't illuminated? Now winter is drawing in along with the endless darkness, it's often difficult to find the button when I jump in the car at night. Anyone else think the same?
  15. I have the same problem with my IS220d Sport. On my way to work I have to turn left at a roundabout. I indicate left but after turning the indicator doesn't cancel itself. On the way back (and so turning right), the indicator cancels itself every time. Im actually glad someone else has picked up on this so I know I'm not the only one!
