  1. Hey everyone! Would anyone know where I can get a right rear brake caliper (or is anyone selling one?) for my GS? I don't think it's repairable, and my local dealer told me it would be £440 to have a new one fitted. A friend of mine is a mechanic, and has said that he can fit a new part for me, if I can obtain it. Any help would be much appriciated. Adam.
  2. Hi, My GS (300, 2002) has a bit of trouble in the cold weather when it's first started pulling away in drive, as if there is a bit of slippage in 1st but it goes away after about a quarter of a mile. I've experienced what you are having a couple of times too, but I couldn't tell you what the weather was like. I put my foot on the throttle to pull out of a junction and didn't get anything for around a second, then the car suddenly jerked into motion. Normally it's fine though. My GS has done about 93k. Have you tried driving with the PWR switch turned on? I'm not sure if it will make any difference, but it's worth a shot. Adam.
  3. Hmm... I live in Hull (yes, I know), I'm 22 and I wear jeans and a t-shirt most of the time, including going to work. I get some curious looks when I'm seen in my GS300, or seen getting in or out of it. So no, not at all :D I enjoy it though... :)
  4. Aha, cool! I'll let them know then, and see who can give me the best price - they both have a similar reputation. Yeah, I have asked them to quote for stereo mute, and for the sound to come through the already existing car speakers, even if it's just the midrange unit in the driver's door. As far as the steering goes, I'll get that checked out - there's a half decent place a few miles out from me so I'll speak to them before I start destroying tyres. The roads I've noticed it on have been around where I live (single lane 25-30mph) and on the M62/M18 (motorways 60-70mph)... not just one section of road. Thanks for your advice :)
  5. The Micra will have been front wheel drive, and so had all the weight of the engine over the front wheels. I've not had any snow yet where I live, so I can't tell you if it works with the GS, but with my last car (Ford Granada, also rear wheel drive and no VSC) the solution was to put a couple of big bags of sand in the boot. More weight on the back wheels = better traction, so no slipping around. I would imagine this would have a degree of success with the GS. You might benefit from letting the tyres down a bit too, but remember to pump them back up again when the weather gets better or they'll overheat and shred (or maybe blow out).
  6. I'm guessing that's excluding any kind of import duty? Big saving either way though. Don't you have to take them (and the car) to a dealer to make the car recognise the new caps?
  7. Well, I've ordered a new disc from lexus-mapupdates.eu - the disc that came with the car was outdated some time ago :P A question on the sound system in the car though, if anyone can help; I have contacted two places about having a handsfree kit fitted to the car and they have both asked if the system is amped or not. It makes about a £40 difference in fitting price because a certain cable is needed for amped systems, and it's just generally more labour intensive. How can I tell if the system in my car is amped or not? Or are they all amped? I can provide a photo of the dash / audio system if needs be. Oh, and also, the car doesn't seem to want to go in a straight line for some of the time - it steers ever so slightly to the left. Is this normal, or is it a wheel tracking problem. The steering wheel isn't level when you make the car go in a straight line, either. Aside from that though, the car is excellent. Feels very well planted on the road and is very comfortable to drive.
  8. that seems pretty good in my opinion, considering the tank is 70/80L and you've only put £50 in. Anuj, my GS Sport doesnt have a trip computer, but i think the GS's with Lexus Sat Nav do...? Yes, my MkII with Sat Nav does have a trip computer. I'm getting an average of about 28MPG. I've only had the car a day, so I can't really give you a best / worst.
  9. Thanks for your reply. I'll have to wait until Monday to order the new disc - you never know, it may already have a recent disc in there - I didn't think to check that when I went to look at the car. I haven't bought the car kit yet, I only suggested Parrot because I've had one of their systems fitted to a previous car, and I know it all works with my phone. I doubt I'll try fitting the unit myself... I'm too scared of doing damage to the interior or electrics if I make a mistake. Now I know it's possible I'll get a couple of quotes done :)
  10. Haha thanks mate. I'm quite looking forward to it.
  11. Hi Everyone! I'm going to pick up a 2002 GS300 this Monday (my first Lexus), and I have a couple of questions about the car that hadn't occoured to me until now; 1 - How do I go about getting updates for the Sat Nav system? Is it just a new CD/DVD, or is this a dealership job? 2 - Has anyone had any luck getting the Parrot Bluetooth Handsfree kits working with the built in stereo? Thanks in advance :)
  12. Hey. I found the site while searching Google for "GS300 common faults", while considering buying one. And I did - I pick it up on Monday :)
