  1. Ain't got such a reader, wish i had.. toyota mechanic will have one with him on monday. Any online retailer in the uk u guys know of that sells those diagnostic readers btw ? could be nice to have myself.
  2. Hi all, Had to leave my is200 behind on a nearby parking lot this morning :( Was driving along fine, almost home when the whole car started stuttering like crazy, turned the engine down, ignition on again and it was doing a shaky idle. Parked it, popped the hood, ignition and saw the engine shaking, electrical warning light on dash (next to abs) came up. So prolly a cylinder or multiple that's being injected but doesnt burn *****, id have to guess, any of this sound familiar to you guys ? It starts fine tho, so it's not anything with the fuel, prolly something electric, gonna let some mechanics pick it up monday mornin.
  3. Well about the "power fuels" fuels like Ultimate from BP and Vpower from Shell doesnt make it any faster, but it does help to keep the engine clean, normal fuel rests keep sticking at several points which decrease performance slighty over time, so it will stay closer to its original horsepower spec with those fuels. Better to call em cleaner fuels than power fuels....
  4. The ECT PWR makes the throttle more sensitive, and if u floor it will shift only at top rpm. The experience compared to without ECT PWR depends a bit on how u taught the ECU to work.
  5. I noticed it on all is200's i been in, here in the netherlands we have some sections of road near the sea which can be quite windy, and then i usually experience the same as you do. It's a combination of things i guess body shape and places the wind goes under the chassis. (above the wheels it's quite roomy, but not much space for wind to flow out again.)
  6. Yeah id call the lexus dealer he got em checked, the guy should also have the name of the lexus employee who actually did the service. Next time you check the car also check a lil paper to the left of the steering column (against the door) which tells at how many miles the car needs its next service (recomm. by lexus dealer) often the lexus employee who did the service writes some remarks on the back of that card about what things he needs to pay some special attention to at the next service. (and they are not the "by the book" things)
  7. Price sounds good but cambelt work is pricey.. if you bring up the subject try to get some off the price or ask him if he can get the belts and (things the belts are on, don't know what it is in english) looked at and replace if the dealer thinks it's neccesary, they advise 60k/6 years now but i ran mine to 100k without any problem and it still looked good, not like some of the horrors i saw on the forum once or twice ;) Look for the quality of the tyres, and brake pads/warped disks and the spark plugs too, i see that more often being in a bad state on second hand is's than creepy belts. Chipping of the paint and oxidation on the rims are also something you need to look close for.
  8. You can get it repaired... but to be honest i can live with it. It's not really a repair actually, more a revision, i agree that makes this a bitter thing to swallow. But for that amount of money you can get a premium cd/amp from one of the better brands, so i don't think it's really worth the money. But.. Only happens once, twice a year and solved in a minute or 2. Glad to hear it worked for you mister RockNut ;) (maybe an idea to put my advice in a sticky or faq ?) Lexus just likes to keep a low profile on things like this i guess, same with the inner tyre wear. The original geometry is way off, but most off the lexus dealers here in holland use revised geometry settings. officially lexus europe still says they recommand the old settings. Same with the cd-changer.. they knew the 1st generation was faulty.. that's why they put the top loader in 2002/2003 models (over here) in that doesnt have that problem as much, but not helping their customers (or dealers / importers) to get it revised since it's still faulty under guarentee. (everyone will have it failing one or twice at some near point in time). I would blame lexus europe for things like this, they are at fault here, i hope they learned from these mistakes and will have more intense test runs and better policy on faulty stuff that's already on the market.
  9. Hiya, Does it give the error code right away or does it first try to read the disk and then gives the error after a while not being able to read it ? if so then fiddle around with eject / insert of the same or another disk while it is still having trouble accessing the "stuck"disk. For instance i always "fix"mine by inserting a new disk which usually pulls the "stuck" disk back into place after one or two tries.
